Long Hallway

Long Hallway

The patient rooms were in a hallway off to the right, ahead is the dayroom created by the connecting hallways... and the pattern repeats.

why didn't they put all the wires from lights and switches in the walls? its danger for patients right? the thin plastic(or is it steel) is the only thing to stop them messing with the high voltage wires
Great angle. looks like something out a nightmare. it reminds of the movie the ring. i can picture that little girl walking very slowly down it.
I like the black and white photos the best. It gives the building that "time honored tradition."
Great Job!
Looks to me like they just built a concrete and brick box then added the electrical afterwards (cheaper than having to hang a ceiling to hide the conduit lines).
Ooog! Seasick! I love it! :-)
love the exposed brick!
wow the angle it was taken at makes it seem really creepy.
Good one Motts
Mr. Motts, Are you ever scared in any of these buildings. I would be to excited to even begin to keep my hands steady to take a picture. With all the stories it wouldn't take much to put me through the roof.
I can't tell how old this building is, but it might be that it didn't have electricity when it was built and the conduit is a retrofit. It is rather difficult if not impossible to run power inside of a brick wall, you'd have to put up a frame wall inside of it to hide the wiring. Conduit is easier and cheaper. It is probably safer too. It would take some serious strenght to rip that galvanized steel conduit off the wall and get inside of it.
The oldest parts of the hospital date back to the erly 1800's alot of the electrical fixtures were added in as "after thoughts" when electricity was discovered and comercialised.

Besides, the really sick/dangerous patients wern't kept on the main floors. They were kept in the tunnels and basement security areas.
I love the black and white. Nice one.
It is amazing how you've captured her beauty. Unfortunately she is being torn down just like the rest. Good job keep up the good work.
Oh no, I can't take anymore summoning! Here I go..

session09 said it right when they said electricity "after thoughts" and commercialisation.
As I would say;"when electricity and it's distribution was being perfected but they weren't sure it would catch on."
Oh wow! Haven't gone through the comments yet, and if somebody has already said it, sorry. But. What a crap hole! Looks like the whole damned place is going to tip over at any moment, just decay everywhere. Gawd.
What a perspective you give us...
