The New Ward

The New Ward

The new wards are so very different from the original buildings, tiled all around in typical post-1940 fashion. The entire new wing might have been reserved for more disturbed patients.

yay new photo's:D btw it looks pretty clean out there
Yeah, in this shot the building doesn't really even look abandoned, save for a few pebbles on the floor. Very interesting!
New Pics!!!!!!
Thanks fo the picks motts! As Bas said, this place looks very clean compared to the other parts of the complex...
Looks cold and stern.
The photo has an angle that kind of makes you uncomfortable, like when a character in a movie has a facial feature thats just a little too big i.e their mouth....uncomfortable to look at
it's not the angle it's the flashbacks. Hehe. Just Kidding!
I live about 5 minuts from here. This place is huge, except there tearing it down for apartments.
Which stinks. I've been to the cementary to here.
I was doing some research on self injury, and found an interesting article...if you're interested:
http://www.webmd.com/c...le/12/1689_50857.htm
And I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible for me to be able to do some volunteer work in a group home or hospital...I would love to help out in some way.
Motts,
Were u scared when you went into the hospital? and were you alone?
i live in foxboro and have been on sites before to look at pics of inside the hospital. this is great. i use to work for the security there at the hospital, and there where quite a few noises that defanetly weren't animals. the place facinates me. i hate to see it go it is such an amazing place exspecially at night.
Ok motts, now you're on my old stopming ground. I grew up in Foxboro, worked in the kitchen there when I was in High School. I was the guy who drove the electric cart through the tunnel from the main buildings kitchen to the now recently demolished "Dexter Building". As tina stated above there were some freaky experiences I had while working there.

I'm curious, did you experience anything during your visits?
Cool, was the Dexter Building the newer-looking medical facility? Nah I've never had any supernatural experiences anywhere...
okay that room looks scary and i think that mental hospitals are like a damn prision
amazing how clean this room is! and they do remind u of prisons. geez it is not like mentally ill ppl can help it! makes u sad that they had to be locked up like they were and are.
Hello I am a Foxborough resident, I live right near this old sanitarium, i have checked these hospitals from the outside alot, and I just though i'd share a fact about the inside. If you try to walk through the halls now, you will fall right through they are so weak (little fact). However this room was preserved perfectly, I do not see how though since you would think since more disturbed patients stayed there it would be more of a mess. My mother's friend is a former employee, and if you would like to know more, please contact me at madmac570@yahoo.com
hey mr motts have you seen the power station it is insane there r huge transisitors and tunnels entrances that r filled with water it was like something in dr frankenstiens lab the electric conducters were freaky looking
I used to live near here too. It always seemed impenetrable to me, closed up tight, and with that guard trailer out front was a further visual deterrent. Then just the thought of it being haunted as heck kept me at a safe distance. Thanks for opening the door to it, Motts. Love the site.
dillon, nah I never went into the power plant, I was too interested in the main building :)
the asylum cought on fire today
How big was it? How many alarms?
duno how many alarms, but it was large and the building was collapsing
3 Alarms--

FOXBOROUGH, MA Jul 14) : Around 12:30 PM The Foxborough Fire Department received several phone calls reporting a fire at the former Foxborough State Hospital on Chestnut Street. The former hospital is in the process of being demolished, and construction crews were on scene. Three alarms were needed to control the fire. The heat hampered the firefighters and rehab areas were set up. Flying brands started a fire in an adjacent section of the hospital and was controlled by mutual aide crews. At the time of this article the fire is still under investigation.

i live near there, and was always haunted by the place and found out recently the the entire campus of the hospital is to be redeveloped within 5 years into a condominium complex i was sad
Thanks for the link Joeniel!
motts is it completly destroyed?
can you still get into any of it me and some freinds were thinkin about goin in there.
No, it's being gutted and renovated into condos. I don't know how much they are preserving though. Please be aware that it is now an active construction site.
Everything is absolutely spotless. It looks like the place is still in use. Crazy stuff.
Fire was contained to one building. Most of the rest of the buildings are gutted already and will be apartments and condos. The new building in question "The Dexter Building" was demolished and is now an empty lot. The 2 buildings accross from it were a matched pair of buildings. They were employee housing one male and one female. The opened a childrens museum in one of them years ago. They are now gone as well and will be the new "Public Safety" building for the town. The theater is staying for future use. They have 2 great old 1930's carbon arch projectors in it as well as the original seats in the loft area. I am sure that everything in it will be gone as well.
i was on vaca and i saw that door

cool
FYI - all the buildings (on both sides of the street) have been completely demolished/gutted. They have built condominiums on the property - those are gonna be some very haunted living spaces.

I love these pics - I actually work at a haunted house and we've been looking at sites like these for ideas for rooms. Great work!
wondering if the new facilty thats gona b built
on state hospital grounds would be haunted feel bad 4 the ppls working at the new place bein built if it b haunted
The black and white and the light spot on the door makes me feel like I'm watching a scary movie.
Ever been inside of Orgegon State Hospital?

I watched this on ABC Family and it was on a show! It looked haunted!!
Alcoholism & inebriation...geez...
So cold and sterile.
We have been looking for info on this place. Real hard to find! If anyone knows anyone who worked there, or even stayed there, I would love to hear from you! Julie4772@msn.com
My mother lives right up the road, the new safety complex sits is the hospitals spot today.
Hospitals for psychiatric treatment may, at first glance, seem like prisons, but there are vast differences (except those which exclusively house people who have committed serious crimes but were found not guilty by reason of insanity). Almost any congregate living situation is going to look rather sterile and impersonal and have a degree of regimentation in its daily routines. Today there is much greater emphasis on individualized treatment and patient's rights than there was in the "bad old days" of "maltreatment" and "abuse." There are also many more options for treatment today, treatment that is much more effective than the old methods. But even those old methods, like today's, were not intended to be punitive or to "blame" the patient for the symptoms of the illness (and if they were used in a punitive manner, that was because someone either didn't understand how to use them or chose to not use them correctly). The goal of the staff and of the hospital's design is to help the patient feel safe and achieve a level of stability sufficient for returning to a productive life in the community. Observation windows in the doors give some privacy to the patient, but also permit staff to watch the patient to prevent suicide or self-injurious behavior. Glass bottles are prohibited because they could become weapons. A daily activity schedule is enforced because the routine and the activities help the patient change the patterns that led to hospitalization. Medication can do many things, but medication alone can't do it all. Patients often also need to develop coping skills, ways of dealing with anger, healthy ways of expressing feelings, etc. The hospital is structured so that the patients can do this in a safe, supportive setting. Locks on the doors prevent patients from leaving when it would be dangerous for them to do so, and also protect patients from unwanted visitors.

Regarding volunteering--most community mental health centers and hospitals have organized volunteer programs and welcome people with a sincere interest in helping. Typically a criminal background check is required, as well as training in confidentiality, client rights, prevention of abuse and neglect, etc.

Special Olympics (for people with developmental disabilities) uses volunteers. Many communities have baseball, soccer, or swimming programs for children with developmental disabilities. Advocacy on behalf of those with mental illness or developmental disabilities is always welcomed--letters, phone calls to legislators, speaking at public hearings, etc. Contact the human resources department of the organization to let them know of your interest .
I live in Foxborough. Those buildings have always scared me. Once, when I was like 6, I was playing the playground right below the building and we were telling scary stories about things that happened there. Once most of my friends left, my friend Bailey and I went right up close to the building. There was a tree there and Bailey went to go sit. I looked up and stared at the building for a while, wondering if the rumors were true. After a few minutes I started to wal away, when something caught my eye. I stopped and looked back up. When I saw the disfigured, pale face staring back at me I was terrified. I turned and ran to Bailey. I pointed to the window and she caught it turning to leave. If you ever see a ghost, you cant help but to be terrified. Just thinking about it, I'm looking all around the study, all freaked out.
Dont know why they always put condos and apts up on this kind of land--yes, pretty sure some freaky stuff will be going on there!
I live right near those buildings. Me and my friends always go in them. There is woods behind them and a little while back they found an unmarked grave that was buried alone. They dug it up now. But the buildings that are left standing are pretty creepy. There is a doll in one of them. When my friend picked it up it scared the crap outta me. Even in the new buildings, the halls ways kinda scare me. They look sinister. My friends have told me they hear stuff but I never did. I wouldn't be surprised if it was haunted though.
