Dentist Office

Dentist Office

These are the only rooms where a lot of stuff was left behind... x-rays of teeth, gloves, syringes, and even a device that was still filled with Mercury were only a few of the things we found in the mess.

wow, what a mess. Im surprised no one thought to dispose of the syringes and Mercury kind of dangerous leaving that stuff behind...
And people TODAY are afraid of the dentist......kind of puts things into perspective.
If you're not gonna say it, I'm gonna say it.
"Is it safe?"
Sorry, couldn't resist!
LOL Max,
Great movie!!!!
(assuming you are referring to "The Marathon Man")
Max , Silkster40z & Larry Olivier,
Well larry, I don't need to tell...Think of how important dental hygiene is anywhere and especially someplace where care for personal appearance has deteriorated (no pun) individually. Part of the beauty of these places were their self-sufficiency. They were communities unto themselves ( out of ability to be and necessity)
Plus, I get the feeling no one wanted to haul those chairs out.
Who's Larry?
Maybe quest is on a close personal basis with Sir Laurence Olivier and just calls him "Larry"? And don't TELL me he's dead, as everyone but me seems to be on a first name basis with ghosts here.

Well, that's MY best guess . . . I can't find Larry nowheres neither, silk . . . :-(

Hey! Mebbe he said something dirty and Motts erased his message! Of course, that would be AFTER he washed his mouth out with soap from one of them there fancy sink light/soap dispensers . . . .
No.....She DIDN'T!
We will just have to look for Moe and Curley, I'm sure Larry isnt too far behind........

~Me!!!!!! lol, yes she did!!!
... yessum, that would be Sir Laurence I was referring to...thank god I checked back so I could clear up this mass confusion ; )
Looks fairly modern.
Dentist's offices in abandoned buildings always seem to be in a chaotic state.
its probably revenge for all the pain they cause!
^ lol silkster you have a point there!

Like 4 years ago, before I got my braces put on, I had 4 teeth pulled at once...fun. So I'm getting my braces put on, writhing in pain, and they say "oh, that's right, you recently had teeth pulled didn't you?" "No, I just normally have FOUR BIG GAPING HOLES in my mouth!"
Sorry, painful experience lol. And having stitches in your gum is no fun either. But at least the chairs are comfortable. If I knew a place was going to be bulldozed within a month, I'd be tempted to off with one of them.
just wanted to mention, I watched marathon man with my 8 year old the other night-she's been flossing ever since ;-)
My dentist, and the nurse type person, like to talk about dogs jumping off of couches onto puppies and 'whatever doesn't kill them only makes them stronger' while they've got little picks poking at my gums.
I know this goes against your code, but If you find contained mercury in your travels again, you may want to consider taking it with you.

In a case here in Minnesota, some kids found a container and opened it up and played with it. All three eventually came down with a severe case of mercury poisoning.
The ultimate childhood horror! First you must clean the room and then you must see the dentist!
-Barbara, i actually had 6 teeth pulled at once. and, it turned out that my body had a "bad reaction" to the anistectic(sp?) and, although i didn't remember anything for 3 days after the operation (seriously, i swear!), my parents and the people looking over me said that i cried constantly and always put up a fight. but don't ask me why, i wasn't in control nor do i remember anything.
oh, by the way, i was 14 when this happened, so it wasn't crying like infants that just cry all the time...what i'm saying is that there myst have been a reason for it, but i don't know what it was.
Of course the patients had proper injections of Novacaine when it didn't contradict with their other meds? And when there was a contraindiction? Oh, let's not think about that.
During the making of Marathon Man Laurence Olivier saw Dustin Hoffman just after he made up to look all messed up, & quipped that he should take a taxi next time. Dustin went into a huff because of this & the production lost a few days before he could be pursuaded to come back.
my dentist has the same light!!! creepy
Oh shit! ITS THE DENTIST FROM HELL! RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
I realize this is an older post, but I agree with HTuttle up there. My 21st Century dentist uses a chair, light, and tools that look a lot like these. And the packed box beside the chair....it looks like someone started packing things up and then just said, "Screw it, let's go!"
Motts you are a pure genious and ive been looking at your photos all day long and reading and just being awe struck beyond words. you are by far my favorite photographer after all this and ive seen many exhibits by many photographers...but nothing has ever taken my breath away like yours....you have a true eye for seeing the beautiful sides of things as unusual as some are...you should really consider doing an exhibit at Winona State University in Winona MN. I would pay bucko dollars for a photo of your work. its nothing that ive ever seen anyone capture before. truely genious.
That's a shame all that stuff was not donated to mission groups in third world countries.
