weird, looks like it was just hung up.
I'm thinking that was a nursing uniform and it was a mini-dress.
yeah, but bad hem job....lol
The ghost of the nude nurse may lurk within the buildings! : O
I'm amazed at how clean it is!
Reminds me of that old ghost story about the gown that would kill anyone who put it on.I don't remember all the details but this picture makes me think of it.
I've heard that one, Orchid Lunar--an old folk tale about a woman who was buried in her wedding dress, and at some point grave robbers dug her up and stole the dress to sell for good money. The dress gets sold to a new bride (not by the crooks themselves, but by a third party who bought it from them), who keels over on her wedding day. She is found to have been died of formaldehyde poisoning; embalming fluid remaining on the dress seeped into her system through her skin. They discover this after her grieving husband has already given away or sold the dress, unable to bear having such a reminder around, of course, so it goes on to kill more brides.

I think it's an unlikely tale at best, but it is entertaining. :)
Thanks Ilaynay! That is the one I was thinking of.Well actually I think I was thinking of two stories that one and another one that was similar but had a more supernatural theme to it.
It reminds me of ugly student nurse uniforms all nurses wore in the past.

Jill ;-((
Those buttons were obviously used to slyly divert the patient's attention while she went about her dastardly deeds.

(Just hopping on the over-imagination bandwagon)
hmmm, i actually like this little dress and i would want to take it home with me.
looks like some 60's mod minidress.
The comment about the wedding dress killing people... tales from the crypt had that story on it....
I saw the killer wedding dress thing on CSI New York. SERIOUSLY,
nice angle w/ the tube/pipe/? making it appear as if it's on a manequin(sp).
unsettling, almost gives a human quality to the otherwise cold and hostile surroundings.
sadly, i would actually wear that.
I would wash it first, but hanging up after all these years, it might be a bit dry-rotted, and fall apart in the washer. (LOL)
Hellooooooooo, Nurse! Sadly, nurses only wear outfits like that in porn now;)
and this is why I think most of my male patients watch waaaaaaaaaaaay too much porn involving nurses. Thats when we send in Diane. She is our old battle axe army charge nurse who is about seventy. 8-)
I want that dress too!!!
I'd seriously take that dress if I was there. xP
I sew, that dress would be EASY to make. I would make one that looked like it if I wanted one like it before I would wear THAT stinky spooky thing! LOL
(Plus my hem would look better)
Old formaldehyde would only make you itch badly, not "seep" into your skin and kill you. Anyway, pretty dress lol
I know somone who pays thousands for old clothes like that.
Yea that is creepy cuz it looks new....
it looks to be a staff uniform, it is in good shape. that is strange.
snopes.com is a pretty cool site that investigates urban legends. Here is what they have to say on the 'killer' dress.

http://www.snopes.com/...ors/poison/dress.htm
Ilaynay's post of the killer dress is an old take off of the ancent story of the cursed kimono of japan that allegadly sparked off the great fire that nearly wiped out tokyo. Story goes: a young bride recives a kimono for her wedding, upon trying it on, she dies, the kimono is then passed on and each girl that recives it, dies. the garment it's self is belived to be cursed by priests and they decide to burn it, hot embers from the burnt kimono is caught by the wind and sparked the fire that leveled tokyo (that at the time was all wooden structures) and killed thousands of people and destroyed much of the city.
The "killer dress" story actually comes from a Japanesse legend about a Kimono. The first owner was to wear it to her wedding. The night before the wedding she died. It was then passed on to another girl, who was also going to wear it for her wedding, the same thing happened. I believe it went through 4 owners when fimally the village priest attempted to burn it. A spark from the fire ignited the wooden beams of the temple and the fire that insued spread through out the village in a matter of minutes.
Dejavu on those last two comments?

I think that this is a nice "classic" design that would flatter many body types. Except for the pink, I would wear this. This style is becoming popular again, only with a modern flair. I think it would have a belt instead of the button detailing.
That cut, in black with a patent leather belt? It'll be on the wall at "Hot Gothic" next season ... watch.
Did you see it move? Just a little? You did.

You did.
Thanks Sandy Y and Porthos.I didn't know that story had it's origin in Japan.Well now I do and I love stories of that nature:)
ya'know...it kinda reminds me of a surgeon's gown with those 2 rows of buttons...or am i thinking of a scientist's schmok(sp?)......anyway, if it didn't have the pink and that thick-looking collar, i'd sewar thats what it was.
this is the creepiest picture i've seen so far. just to think, who the last person to wear it was. scary, but great picture!!

i'ma newbie btw.

i love this site!
wow...it certainly does not look worse for the ware....so to speak. I agree with a comment someone made earlier in one of these photos....why does it look like they just disapeared and left everything as it was? NOW THATS SPOOKY!
It looks too small to be a uniform article of clothing. Looks more like a child's nightgown to me.
Em, us old gals would shock some of you people with the seriously short lengths of our dresses back in the days. 8`-)
The bad hem job on the dress was probably done by whomever wore it. They wanted it shorter, for whatever reason. Also, it's translucent (see? the hanger is visible through the fabric) so it's probably some kind of smock, designed to be worn over other clothes.

And is it just me, or is that pipe coming in through the window?
It could have been made by a teen in a home making.. skills class?
I had a uniform like this in nursing school. The colors where blue and white, but it is the exact same design. You had a choice of either a dress, or a shirt. The shirt looked exactly like the dress, only shorter.
I just had a flashback from the movie "death Tunnel".
by the way, i don't think i saw anything from the Waverly Hills Sanatorium. it would be a really interesting place to visit.
I actually really like that shirt/dress
i would have taken it and worn it a lot. its so cute!
It brings your thoughts round to the people who worked in places like this, doesn't it? I can see a young nurse, struggling with the emotional strain of being in a place like this, day after day.

It's quite a sobering thought.
i like tht shirt. i'd wear it if it hadn't hung in a hospital for 30 years or more. its too big anyway.
Lynne, is this the stuff that inspired silly halloween costumes? Or is the idea of that "the shorter the hem, the sexier the whatever? -I won't mention French maids.
you know what this means? some teen girl snuck in and as a prank stripped her dress off. Shes still in there! find her! find her! take pictures AFTER she put the dress back on.
The pink color is surprising.
this looks like an old nurse uniform but its very creepy
Sexy!!
