totally creepy !!
I must second what Anna's said with my own resounding "creepy!"
It is a very creepy shot indeed. The sheet makes it look almost ghostly now, doesn't it?
Yo! Come on over to my crib!
This is my favorite shot from this group of pictures. Something very pretty about the colors and the sunlight, but the tattered sheet gives a very macabre aspect.
Seeing these adult cribs and thinking of people strapped in them for weeks and ever months possibly is disturbing enough but that sheet just adds to this.
lol max. lol
There seem to be alot of these adult cribs in these old places. I sopose that its comforting modern places doent tend to have them.
I suppose cribs could have been used for certain folks who just tended to roll around a lot and fall out of normal beds. Modern hospital beds do have low side bars.
If they were strapped in, they wouldn't really need the bars, and the bars don't seem like they would have stopped someone not strapped in from hopping out.
actually, really confused patients will still climb over the side rails of the beds. Hence the job of the sitters was born.
Scary and depressing.
Not very cozy, is it?
Usually, those cribs are for more crippled people, those who are almost veggies. I have a friend who has a brother who has a crib like that, and he is 20 something. the people are pretty much in need in them, they are as helpless as babies.
This picture seriously disturbes me.
The mid - tone colour { British spelling} is perfect for emphasising the almost sombre feel the shot exhibits, with the sheet laid on it suggesting that it is concealing something, or someone, inside.
This picture really is disturbing
The first thing that comes to my mind is everything was just left as it was. For instance, this makes me feel like one morning they got the memo that the hospital was closing down so they get the child from their beds and just leave. No one ever talks about how the abandonment started. Did they just go in one day and grab all the children, shut off the power, and lock the doors. Why are none of these buildings rehabilitated, like what the buildings 'function' was in the first place. I understand that the physical conditions of the building are poor. It just seems so wasteful. Or is it because of the memories that are made while in the establishment? Is that why they don't do anything with the property?
WOW! I never knew they made cribs for adults. That's so cool and creepy at the same time.
Thats disturbing. To be placed in a crib...yuck thats sad.
This is my Bedroom !
Time to move out of the cribs..and find yourself a bed
Holy crap! that's a big frigging crib dont ya think?
Very sad picture. Makes you wonder what happened to any that used that crib.
Man, that is great atmosphere! If this place doesn't house destitues; i can totally understand why. Can you imagine sleeping here at night? I bet this place wards off (no pun intended) even ghosts! a truely amazing environment.
Motts do you happen to know the ages or range of ages of the childern that were cared for here?
Not really, I would assume they would range in all ages, but most residents would be from infants to late teens.
Much respect to Lynne for doing a great job.
Great but disturbing photo's.
Strange that so much stuff was left around. I would have thought it would have been removed for scrap at least.
The sheet looks ragged and old. It seems to show that not much care was given to keeping things clean and fresh. The room has a sombre feeling to it, only because of the care taken in keeping it up. The cribs are not necessarily creepy, disturbing or sad. First, used properly, they can aid a person who needs it, like people who fall out of bed, sleepwalkers, or just help some feel secure. Also, remember that it's a bed, and the person is only sleepin in it at night, not made to stay in it 24 hours a day. It is not for punishment.
uhhhhh Lynne, I hope you check back from time to time, cause I have another question for you...Do they still use these? I remember when I was 12, they brought me back from surgery in one of those. No lid this time!
Don't know what they use in pediatric wards these days. Any of you people who currently work in regular hospitals out there who can answer? My guess is that they don't use them much, if at all, but I haven't worked in a "regular" hospital for a while. Where I currently work we don't have anyone in beds like these for safety reasons, even young children.
Post the pic of the adult crib and you get everyone's life story.
Being that I've cared for grown men who have the minds of babies--and yes, they'd have tantrums, act out, spit, get into things, put things in their mouths, hit and do all the things a toddler would do--these cribs are necessary. It beats putting them in a home or institution and having them tied up somewhere. Tying the person up or throwing them in a home away from those who love them to me seems very cruel and barbaric. So long as the crib has a matress, sheets, and a blanket and is made to be comfortable also allowing enough playing room in case the occupant should want to play with toys as a toddler would, then the crib is fine.
Lateposter, i can totally agree with you. I've cared for even grown men who have the thought processes of small children. Could you imagine their strength?

I'm not sure why people feel that having an adult crib is so bad or disturbing. I mean, it is better then tying the person up or throwing them in a home or institution. You are so right. Thanks for voicing your opinion.

Toetag, yes they still use adult cribs. I'm glad they do. As lateposter said, if used properly, it is fine. I mean, think about it, when you put a baby in a crib for a nap or for sleeptime, is that a punnishment? No. It is just merely putting them to bed. And why do babies sleep in cribs? Well, it is to contain them, to keep them out of danger. So, what is wrong with doing the same things to adults who have that mindset? Nothing.

Look at this situation and compare it. They make diapers for adults who have incontinence. Those that wear them does not make them babyish. They have a problem they need to control, and that is the way it should be done. The same thing goes for the cribs.

I'm going to blog about this on my blog. You can read the blog at www.keepthemhome.blogspot.com. It is a blog that I used to educate caregivers or people interested in caregiving. I do it from the bottom of my heart. It is from my own experiences. It is my passion to educate others so they can keep their loved ones home and give them the best quality of life possible.
This is quite the shot......you never cease to amaze.
so many questions go through my mind as I look at this
They Rarely use cribs anymore because of whiney people like some of you that are against cribs. You will be pleased to know that now we DRUG the patients to the point where they are NOT aware of anything !!.
They sit and stare into space like DEAD PEOPLE. They are kept DRUGGED 24/7.For the rest of their lives they know NOTHING. Do you still think CRIBS are bad ????
any idea where someone could get a crib like that ?
Odd, i honestly had no idea there were cribs for adults. . .creepy indeed.
it is not sick or creepy. i have a 42 year old sister who is very handicap and her bed is just like this.. and many nursing homes and special care home use them
The sheet adds so much to the photograph, it was once white, clean and fresh but time and abandonment has reduced it to a dirty remenant of once was.

It's not creepy, it's just what happens when something is forgotten.
^^^What?^^^

Anyway... the crib itself is not "creepy," anymore than the baby bottles of the previous picture were "disturbing" or "sad." However, the environment and the captivating quality of the photography gives the items a haunting feeling, invoking the hollowness of desolation and long-standing abandonment. The things, in short, that draw us to this site and to actual UE.
this is awful, putting grown men and woman in these oversized cribs, this probably made them feel even worse and more child like.

sad really.
I'm sure the staff took care of the BABIES *ahem Allyver Sykes* very well. So, no worries. Besides, how could you do something evil to a baby?
Don't answer that question...
ive never heard of adult cribs before...kind of a creepy thaught to be honest... i saw it say crib on a picture before it loaded and i was like 'whats a crib' because in england we call them cots
I have this baby blanket that I just LOVE sleeping with. I don't want it to end up like that blanket in the picture.
If my blanket ever ends up like that and has to be thrown away, I won't be able to fall asleep EVER AGAIN!!!! (Unless I get another one...)
Oh man... kinda disturbing 0_e

Nah... the crib it's self isn't so bad... but to think that adults were put in these... lord... disturbing... and reading some comments didn't do any justice.
*continues to cry*
This is the creepiest photo yet
this is disturbing; some of these pics are great! they look like something from silent hill o.o
