older equipment is definately scary!!!
Look at the lack of protection around the fan's blades! Jeezus!
Isn't the containing cage for the blades back and to the left? I don't believe that a manufacturer, even in the old days, would get away with selling a bladed fan like that without a protective cage.
...it does look deadly...
Looks like a machine for manufacturing Registration (Licence) Plates??
did it kill anny one?
why would a mental facility have a machine for the manufacturing of license plates i thought they only made them in prisons
The cage back and to the left is for another pedistal fan , looking at the condition of this fan it's guarding has either broken or rusted away. This is also a pedistal fan, even though it appears to be hanging from the ceiling.

maybe a stamp machine?
this could just be me being really empathic.. but i get the feeling that this machine was used to liquidize the abused children..much like a large evidence eradicating human blender..
any comments please email - clearlyimnotbeingserious@aol.com
Oh how I love those Hunter pedistal fans. I'd say late 40s into the 50s. They were made shortly after Hunter moved their headquarters from Fulton, NY to Memphis, TN. Very nice and powerful fans.
Novocaine.... ummm..... ummmm..... what? You realize that the fan is not part of that machine? There is no way to even argue logic with that statement... There is no such thing as a "human blender"! Can you imagine how frigging strong the motor would have to be to put out enough torque to chop up bone?
The motor on that pedistal fan is only 1/3 horsepower. That much torque can't do shit to bone. You'd need at least maybe 10 horsepower to do that.
Glurp! However, I do love the color contrasts, the greenery, and the grey and red of the, oh, whatever it is!
i think novocaine was referrring to all the "ooh, was that where they tortured them?" comments from spidergirl at the beginning of this gallery...
surly girl, we need to clone you. I admit that novocaine made me run for my adult incontinent briefs there . . . . 8`-)
Dr. Sketch, my love:

I know it's Friday, but you need more sleep, hon. ;-)
<smirks>
Poor picked-on novocaine. These folks be brutes, non? ;-)
yup.. think ill go eat worms..
(punishment food of choice for the pre blended kiddies)
Well, don't I look dumb? Maybe I shouldn't post when I haven't gotten any sleep... Sorry again, I thought (for some reason) that you were serious!!!
heh no bother.
That could be a license making machine. Retards and other invalids are prime sources for extremely low-end labor of the same type that 6 year old chinese children perform. You know when you get furniture or a t.v. or something with a little bag of bolts to assemble it, an incorrigible mental deviant making 3 dollars an hour put the stuff in the bag.
I assume you are just trying to make a point, but please do not use the work "retard" in that context. Some people may find it insulting, plus it's a blatant expression of your ignorance.
This was driving me nuts, I did a little searching and found this:

" Make It Custom , Inc. is one of MarkMaster retail web initiatives. MarkMaster was established as a Marking and Identification manufacturer in 1934. Founders Armando and Virginia Govin were children of Cuban Immigrants who came to Tampa in 1905 to make a living in the thriving cigar industry. Located for many years in front of their home in downtown Tampa, the company has expanded into all types of marking and identification products including rubber stamps, daters, name badges, name plates, signs and banners."

I know this thread is kinda old, but, I couldn't go on without attempting to clarify this a little. It was probably used to make nameplates like you see on the outside of offices. It would make sense for a hospital, or school to be able to make these for the dorms.

**disclaimer**
I'm not guaranteeing this information is correct by any means, but, it would make sense to me.
Thanks for the research Taubin, much appreciated!
LOL Novocaine,
