Now, this is an amazing shot. I love how you were able to capture such a unique angle and still be able to get the stars within the photograph, in the background.
Very good work indeed!
Agreed, Kassie. It looks as if the hospital was trying to accomodate you by bending to fit in the frame. :-)
Why do the stars have motion in them? Everything else looks fairly well focused and unblurry.
Taking a photograph at night lets you have the shutter open for minutes at a time.... since the earth is spinning around on it's axis, the stars appear to streak as they change position in the sky over that span of time. And since the rest of the world is down here with the camera and tripod, everything else looks sharp!
Boy, if that street light had been on, it would have totally destroyed the picture!

I'm surprised how short of an exposure results in streaky stars. Admittedly, I've never played with a camera that you can keep the shutter open for indeterminate periods of time, either!

A neat variation on your normal pics, Motts!
Beautiful, just beautiful!
Great site all the way around. One comment about the building "bending". I think this is what is known as "parallax distortion". Usually an undesirable effect but may work in some situations. See http://www.outbackphoto.com/workflow/wf_58/essay.html

Really great photography and quality site.
Remember these are night time photos. Mr. Motts, excuse me and I may be incorrect, but were these taken in the dead of night--no lights? If so, the reason why we can see the building is due to the expertise of the photographer and lensmans. Correct me if I am misinformed (anyone) --I'm so happy with these photos., Mr. Motts!
...It seems that the dead of night presents the most accurate representations...?
Quest, there were no street lights lit, but rather the landscape is being illuminated by the full moon, which is bright enough to light everything up without taking ridiculously long exposures. These averaged around 8-20 minutes long.
Good Lord! I was thinking that "long" meant 30 to 45 seconds!
thanks Mr. Motts...beautiful!
Goes to show, i don't know shit about phototraphy, thanks Mr. Motts!! ;-)
It reminds me of a cat as it lowers it's body before it strikes it's prey.
Great photography
And yet again I've gopt another link...haha. If anyone is really into Kirkbride Buildings and wants some more information on them the site below is quite useful:

You really know your photography! What a beautiful picture! Reminds me of an old old college.
Motts if you don't mind me asking what kind of camera do you use. And how many years of training did it take you to become so professional and good at what you do. I admire your work absolutley stunning.
Thank you, this shot was taken with a Canon Digital Rebel, and I use a Canon 5D as of now. I have been shooting abandoned places since 2002.
what a gerat place for ghost, did you see any?
The manificence and glory of the articftecure of it all. The whobegone of what happened here. Does it diminish the the whole general scene of what it's all about. Answers, no answers, feedback. Lynne, whats it all about.
It's to bad, north of the main admin building suffered a 6+ alarm fire, May 2007.
Mott's U sly old fox I know where this one is-- and will see it soon -my lips are sealed
Looks like you'd need a map of the place.
