Great pix!
I'll ask one of the PTs at work if she knows what this might be.
Thank you for the pictures, they were all highly entertaining.
Thanks as always for the great pictures Motts. I can't wait for the next batch!
I agree with Kassie....
A truly frightening device whatever it is...I agree, can't wait for your next addition:)
agreed and i dont want to know what it was used for i can be very happy without this information....great gallery mr.motts applauding you as usual
Actually, it seems to be a sewing machine or piece of textile manufacturing equipment.
But that can be frightening, especially if you have to use it. ;-)
Damn! Lynne! We do think alike! I was thinking on the same lines as well. I wanted to ask Hubby what he thought before I commented. It appears to be that it could aide in the folding of bed sheets or other material of the like. :)
Especially since there is a giant green machine in another room called a Super Sylon ironer, made by American Laundry Machinery.
I thought of the sewing thing too, because it looks like there's a spool of thread in the center, but it's actually gauze wrapped around a pole. There are two stirrups on either side, so I ruled that out pretty quick.

I went back and pushed it into a more spacious room, it might be easier to get a grasp on what it is when I post those photos up.
Stirrups?!? OMG! I thought they were HANDLES!!
*faints*
so its a torture device, that can be used as a sewing machine??
im confused.. ah well..
This is obviously a device for wraping modern day mummies. The ancient Egyptian method of hand wraping was concidered far too antiquated for such a modern society as ours. This should clearly explain the gauze and stirrups.
I KNEW THERE WAS A SIMPLE EXPLAINATION. THANKS adat.
I straped to on exactly like that when I was little. Lynne, it's not a textile machine! You get strapped to it face up and they slowly strach you so you spine and muscles return to their original place.
Owwwwwwwww!!!!!! 8`-(
it looks like a bobbin of thread on it, I dont even want to know why they would need to *thread* anything , lol
IT'S A DR. SEUSS CONTRAPTION
I've admired a lot of your galleries from afar at my computer desk but this gallery takes the cake, Motts.

The changes in colors, in upkeep, even all the different types of rooms at Linton State Hospital just fascinate me. It is almost as if a bunch of different galleries were rolled into one-yet they manage to keep the same feel.
Ok, I definitely need one of these. Can you imagine the fun I would have!
Um, yes, I can.
TERRIFIC work, Mr. Motts. I'm so lloking forward to my ongoing explorations of Opacity.us, and your upcoming additions. Keep up the good work!
Yes indeed Mr. Motts, your pictures are absolutely fantastic.
i dont get it :(... and how does it work?????????????????????
I think it is a casting table for a body cast. Peole with severe scoliosis condition may have dysfuctional lungs that requires assistance so the equipment in this room and the iron lung does go hand in hand.
Wow I was just introduced to this site I've been looking around this stuff is freaking amazing! It is just like what me and my friends like to do! Ireland sucks for locations though! Amazing picture, wouldn't like to think what THAT contraption might have been used for!!

xxkatxx
having been a patient for several years, This jolts my memory as the place that they put on the plaster body casts. They suspended you so that they could just keep wrapping the plaster around your body. charlie is right.
My book "The Baby's Cross" tells of some of the happenings. inside Lakeville. It can be bought on Amazon.com. Enjoy
i think its a bone-setting jig. nothing more sinister. presumably to b,e used in conjunction with an x-ray. hHopefully rthe patient would be sedated.
Ive studied the comments, ive studied the machinery, the ideals are great, i still wish someone could explain how this thing works from A to Z. i dont see how in the world someone would lay or sit on those boards! And, what about that clock ? Did someone have to watch the time tick slowly by while they were in horrible pain?
Lynne, i cant thank you enough! Now that brings things into perspective! i tried for over an hour last night to find pics like this, but to no avail, so your efforts are truly appreciated!!!!!!!
Lynne, wanted to thank you again for the info, you might not see my earlier post to you, Daniel has run amuck!
hahahaha lmfao......LucieLou 'gone amuck'
I think that's a serious understatement!
Seen my comments to him? *snigger*
sorry 'RUN' amuck' just as funny though!
These things are so cool :) I read a book about this last month
sorry about the last one. This is where they make people do stretches.

(and they hurt, ALOT)

I have on question for the guy taking the pictures, why are some black and white while others are color?
