autoclave! AUTOCLAVE!!!!.... ::grumble grumble:: autoclave
It's amazing how well they've held together and kept their shine. Says something about how they were built.
I opened and closed this thing as well as viewed many other aspects of KP and it was very remarkable
how is that in perfect condition and everything else around it such a mess?
MMMMM.....Give me your yummy dirty things! MMMMMM.....

This autoclave has a personality all it's own.
still, i can never get over those cool/sinister looking locking mechanisims...
i love this.
the handle got ripped off recentley i believe
There was one just like this in the zoology department of Birmingham University (that's Birmingham, England, not Alabama) where my dad worked as a scientist. Used to be scared to death of it as a child, I used to have terrifying fantasies of being locked in it!
This one looks in very good shape though- ANOTHER piece of expensive kit that the Third World's crying out for and the Western world can afford to just let rot....
An Autoclave is a pressure vessel, by it's very nature had to be built to withstand high temperature and pressure. Therefore would last a very long time in inert surroundings.
I want that locking mechanism now!
Autoclaves do more than sanitize they sterilize by steam under pressure. They are are made of steel. I was an OR nurse in the Army Nurse Corps and used various sizes of autoclaves.
If you had long hours one could pressure cook a nice meal (potatoes and corn on the cob were quite tasty).
