Fresco Closeup

Fresco Closeup

Sorry for the angle, the security dude was driving around on the roads a minute beforehand.

It looks like children offering a king gifts... I can't see how this relates to a hospital. Things get stranger inside.

Wowza! I woulda had NO idea the fresco was painted! From the last pic I would have assumed it was carved directly into the building's surface.
Lynne, my feelings exactly. What odd immages .... cant wait to see more!
The topic of the fresco image is highly interesting...maybe it was supposed to be a Catholic establishment, or something of the sort?
seriously..the people and the lady in the middle is creepy!
The scheme looks almost Hindu, until you examine it closer!
I find the flatness of the figures disturbing. Anyway, I don't really understand the symbolism either, but at least it's in pretty good condition.
Upon scearching the web...its apparently the entrence to the kitcehen...the design signifies the deviding line for boys and girls holding out bowls for food...with the center person being the cook...hope this helps
Thanks, that does makes sense... although the center figure doesn't resemble much of a cook!
wow those kids on that building seem so out of place!
This seems utterly pointless, unless it is a Catholic establishment, which was really popular when this was built and in use...
I don't mean to be a dink, but I had to point out that it looks like it has some dimension, in which case, it would not be a fresco, but a bas relief. Fantastic photos, though...
Ah, I forgot my art history classes already... thanks for the correction!
Oh mighty king of TB, please have mercy?
Looks to me like a woman in the chair. Mother of healing? Or woman who can control her rats (kids)?
This is interesting and beautiful! I'm glad you got the shot! : )
They dont make 'em like this anymore. I really like unique stuff like this!
I don't know that much about catholic iconography and I didn't really find out who built the hospital, but given it's in a state known for massive immigration of catholics from overseas around the time it's been built, I somehow had to think of holy mary as heaven queen, being saluted and given presents by children... the blue overcoat would be a typical holy-mary-color and well, the second color would typically be white, but I've seen red quite often as well. Would be nice to hear from someone who knows more about that stuff. :-)
