Lighthouse

Lighthouse

A drop of water managed to get on the lens in this shot, but it's still a pretty cool photo.

Looks like this used to be the entrance to the "water park", which consisted of a small pool and a swampy lake with a concrete maze or water slide contraption in the center. The shack was made to look like a lighthouse in nautical theme.

Actually, the water drop gives the picture character, like something out of a clasic horror movie or The Blaire Witch Project..
whats the bridge in the back ground about
The bridge is for a little boat ride they had. It was also a metal slide you could slide down.
My favorite 'water' ride if it can be called that was the BIG blue whale. I remember sitting in his mouth with my grandmother. Ah, the memories. I also LOVED the huge rainbow slide.
Didn't the blue whale have some voices coming out at the back of it's mouth? I can't remember what it said!
Yeah. The whale had a Pinnochio scene going on in the back.
Mt. Vesuvius is what looks like a bridge in the background and which actually held a 65 foot slide.
The boat known as Little Toot would ride people around and through that tunnel in the mountain.
Willie was located at a pond in the EF. Willie the whale would laugh. A light would go on and behind the mesh screen in his mouth you could see the fisherman Jonah sitting on a raft.
Jonah has long since disappeared whereabouts unknown like all the other EF figures! : (
The bridge in this picture was of Tom Sawyers' Fishing Pond, the "bridge "is a rock where a figure of Tom Sawyer sat on top of the rock with water flowing out of the rock into the pond..a water fountain,to be exact!
OOPS!My mistake!Tom Sawyer's Pond is around the corner of this photo,on the far left!
My apologies!
So, nobody else thought the lighthouse looked like oversized artillery then?

Whats with the giant head in the centre background?

There're some great images here Mott :)
wow this one is Gorgeous no so much in the foreground but the pathway and the lake/pond make up it really attractive, nice pick for a shot
Amazing. I love it
Wow, I didn't know the whale had something in it! I actually have a picture of me (age 4) and my brother (7 mos. old or so) sitting in the mouth of the whale, but I don't remember actually seeing anything in it's throat. Maybe we just didn't think to look! I remember there being swings near the lake as well.
I can't see!
That looks more like a bunker or war fort than a lighthouse.
to think something that i once thought of as magical and fun could look so much like a scene from a war torn town
GREAT PICKS!! I REMEMBER GOING THRU THIS GATE AS A CHILD AND BEING LOCKED OUT TILL THE REST OF MY GROUP CAUGHT UP!! LOOKING FOWARD TO THE 51ST ANIV AT CLARKS THIS WEEKEND!!
BEAVIS~
Hope you have a great time at the birthday celebration! : )
BEAVIS -
Did you get to go to the Birthday Celebration?
How was it?
IT WAS GREAT TO SEE ALL THE FIGURES AT CLARKS!! I MISSED THE MAIN CELEBRATION, THAT WAS ON SATURDAY. WILLIE THE WHALE IS IN BAD SHAPE THOUGH...
You're right BEAVIS, he does look bad, but take heart, - I have heard that when they tried to get him out the first time, and couldn't, they had Mr. Mark Cline, (he does this type of thig for a living, and is excellent at it), go in and take measurements, because they thought they would have to have a replica made.
So, with the measurements, and all the pictures they can gather, they will be able to fix him back up! Clark's Elioak Farm is always looking for photos, especially for restoration. They will gladly scan anyones pics of The E. F. so they can restore these precious treasures!
(Motts has the link to their website at the intro. of this E.F. series of pics. You can contact them through that)
So glad you got to go BEAVIS!
just wondering what type of cloth you would use to remove the water from the lens without smear?
Any decent lens cloth sold at a camera store fixes the problem well. If smearing occurs, I use a lens cleaning fluid I keep on me, it has come in handy a few times in these dusty and dirty places.
thanks motts, great site you have here very stunning and surreal
I can't see it!!!!!
These pictures bring back so many memories for me. I LOVED the slide on Mt. Vesuvius. We used to bring waxed paper so we could go faster down the long, HOT, metal slide.

And fishing in Tom Sawyer's pond! They'd give you a fishing pole with corn or something on it, and I think you could fish untnil you caught one of the little fish. Catch & release of course, but it was fun!
beautiful composition.
How sad to see Mt. Vesuvius this way. When I was young, it seemed sooo big... And Mr Toot (was that the name?) the boat that took you out there. I burned my thigh on one of those slides, and I still wanted to go back for more!

The boat at the E.F. was known as Little Toot. It used to travel around Mt. Vesuvius and was kept in a private collection for years after the Enchanted Forest closed years ago.

Just recently, the current owners of this boat, donated it to Clark's Elioak Farm, where many of these original enchanted figures and structures have found a new home.
At the farm, it just floats in a small pond, but you can go on it for photo ops.

Clark's will be opening for their new season this April.
They plan on exhibiting some new displays of either original E.F. figures that have been found, returned, and/or repaired.
They also plan on showing off some new figures that have been re-created by the artist Mark Cline from that area.
Mark Cline, as well as other artists helping to bring back the stories that this park was known for, have been using old video and/or pictures to make these new figures look as much as they did when they told their stories and rhymes at the E.F when it was open.
i thought i saw a ghost somewere...o well
Willie and Lil' Toot are repaired and ready for more photo ops at Clark's Farm now. went to visit them this summer ::)
Cool shot! It's a shame that these old parks are left to decay...at least "StoryLand" and "Santa's Village" still exist.
it isnt a water park it took you to the hugeee lake where in the middle was... MT.VESOUVIOUS!! dun dun dun!! and robinson crusoe's island. and will the whale! I think everybody who went to EF got their picture in willy's mouth. And little toot!
I remember being terrified of the boat when I was a kid! I'm thankful that I can share my EF memories with my kids. Many of the pieces are at Clark's Elioak Farms not too far from the original site.
