Yea they are loud, the 10th floor has electricity and the building still has power.
Sounds like cancer. Those look pretty new, is the building still being used for something?
No, I think it's just a junction for the electricity to run to the active buildings on campus.
lol Motts obviously you havent been to the 10th floor-GOOD! There are active alarms in the building, and on the 10th floor are generators for the antennas on top of the building, they;re still being used as police transmitters. Anyone who goes on the 10th floor sets the alarm off, and let me tell you, it aint pretty.
as we briskly jogged up the stairs of building 7 we started to notice random maglighs, flashlights, a crowbar, and other such items on the stairs around the 9th floor. Didn't think too much of it, got to the 10th floor, the door was sealed from the top of the staircase but 2 large holes were in the wall. Needless to say as soon as one of us went through the hole, alarm was set. We actually have the video from that day (ill have to upload the clip) all you see is someone go through the hole, then the first second of the alarm, then we ran very fast. hah good times!!
How'd you fight the urge to play with it? Your survival instincts have to be like... 50 times mine. There's no way I could leave without touching something... anything... argh! Just looking at the photograph makes me want to press some buttons.
I live far away, but making a note anyway.

--Building 7, 10th floor, NO!
More than meets the eye!
They used to be a lot louder. At one time, back in 2001ish, the entire building used to have free flowing power. Everything could be lit up. Now, I hear its only random rooms that will light. I remember this building when it was almost untouched. Its so trashed now. Still intersting regardless I supose.
robots in disguise
Does any one else think that there is more to the story about the place being shut down I mean usually when a place is shut down you get everyhting out of the buildings why did everyone leave in such a hurry kind of makes you think that they were trying to hide something
*must resist urge to open transformer and grab exposed wires :( *

anyway cool shot :)
awesome shot. and the dark spot in the centre of the light looks like pacman x)
Ek, I was going to say the exact same thing about the shadow in the center looking like Pacman, Jb.

WakkaWakkaWakka.

Yummy.
More than meets the eye.
I would have pushed some buttons. I love shiney buttons
I'm so glad I'm not the only person who instantly thought "robots in disguise."
ive been all the way to the very top of the building and didnt set off alarms. gettin to the top is really really fun!
these aren't transformers it's a MCC (motor control center) lineup and I'd venture to guess that if you opened them up and played tag with the wires you might look like the kitty cat in the drawer.
i have to agree with renee !!! if they shut this place down why do they still need the power???? and why did they leave so quickly and leave so much behind???? who knows the real truth??? the old workers and drs thats who ya'll need to fess up and tell all
Btw everyone, the power's been cut in 7 for a while now.
Thanks for the info Mad Dawg.
Ooooo, what does this button do? BA-ZAP!
renee... there is something most odd about this place. when it was purchased in the early 1900's it was over 700 acres of land they have sold a significant amount of it but almost 400 acres still remain. its strange that they left alot of the medical supplies and food and materials in these buildings. its weirder that my friends and i were able to steal boxes and boxes of patients files that they never destroyed. which is illegal in so many ways... i have dead peoples social security numbers. i have hygiene checks and lists of materials patients entered the ward carrying on their person. i have certified mail and death letters. voided checks and letters going into detail about a dead patients $6,000 in their bankaccount is going straight to their kppc doctor because some thing "happened" idk if you see where i am going with this... there's something wrong about patients going in crazy but healthy and coming out with aids. but what weirds me out more than any of that is long island is the smallest part of new york right? well kppc one of the largest insane asylums in the us is here, pilgrim state psychiatric center open at the same time and so was central islip. ALL ON LONG ISLAND. OPEN AT THE SAME TIME AND ALL VERY CLOSE TO EACHOTHER. figure that one out. because i have been trying and trying for years and i still cant. email me if youre interested in what im saying laurawlnight@gmail.com
I think the proximity and size of the state hospitals can be explained just by the fact that they served one of the largest cities in the world - New York.

Stress was placed on a peaceful farm life as a part of the recovery process during the early years of psychiatric care in the U.S., and so the city was not an optimal place to care for the mentally ill. The once rural areas of Long Island and upstate New York were perfect places to construct these remote institutions within quick reach via road and especially rail - a lifeline for the tons of coal that needed to be burned for power.

When you account for the large populations at the state hospitals in Long Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Bronx and in the Hudson Valley, it is quite astounding.
