This is a really cool picture.

I had to google Joel-Peter Witkin. I have never heard of him. Very powerful work! Some of it reminded me of Robert Steven Connett a bit, but a lot more refined.
This is a fantastic picture! Would be great as a book or album cover!! great shot.
One of your best - extremely creepy.
It reminds of the video for 'Closer' .
Ha! I was just going to say very NIN or Marilyn Manson-ish.

Love it.
Now you know why I dont drink from a faucet.
Awesome. So haunted.
Yep. I think I shall buy bottled water from now on. Pics like this make me wonder what unknown deposits WE are ingesting from waterfaucets on a daily basis.
Don't have to worry about osteoporosis after this, though . . .
reminds me a little of h.r. giger, maybe? with a tiny bit of patrick woodroffe mixed in. or at least it looks like a base of one of their surreal works. does that make any sense? if not, please forgive me. i am an unfortunate sufferer of severe adhd.
E-mail this photo to Joel Peter Witkin, I dare you.
You say that as if you totally glossed over the comment Motts wrote.
I am sorry, maybe it is the blonde hair but, I don't get the point ofthe dare.

Someone PLEASE fill me in.

...and NOt like that, I mean with info.
Hya, ~Me! If you look on the net, it appears Mr. Witkin is a photographer of the morbid. Dead bodies and parts of dead bodies seem to be popular subjects of the artist. I guess, some people are into that sort of thing. It could induce nightmares for me, if I delved too deeply. I will just stick with our Mr. Motts. He makes me happy as a clam!
Twug,
I know he is a photographer of morbid things, but I don't get the dare itself, Why would it be risky to email him this shot?
Joel Peter Witkin is amazing.
Joel Peter Witkin frightens me. I like morbid stuff, but he is just plain too morbid. His is the stuff of nightmares.
Yeah, I took a look at some of his stuff...he's talented and artistic, its just not my medium. Stuff like that usually doesn't bother me extremely much, but that really did haunt me. What I wonder is where he gets his, er, "props."
Barbara, I skimmed some of the info on Mr. Witkin. If I remember correctly ( after I hastily exited one of his sites while screaming), he gets permission from people working at morgues (not in our country) to use their...um..."people" for props. He may be brilliant to some, but his work leaves a me with a mental bad taste.
In some ways Witkin's work is comparable to Damien Hurst and others in the pickled cow business... art to shock, for the sake of it in many cases. Witkin's stuff is actually quite clever in some instances but unneccessarily icky in many more. IMO his best work is the photoshopped images involving live (hence consenting) people not the charnel-house, gut-churning yuckiness... However unlike Hurst Witkin actually seems to have a talent...

Ok I'll shut up and stop trying to be an amateur art critic now ;-D
Yes....*sob* ~Me left me. Me left ~Me. I'm so confused. Anyway, Rich, the work of Mr. Witkin's that I was lucky enough to have been exposed to? If I had to give it a name, I would call it "Corpse Pornography". Motts, I promise, cross my heart, I will not stray again!!! Rich, I LOVE reading your comments, though. Your words are poetry to my ears, as the village, town, city-wanna-be, that I reside in is not possessive of a lot of culture.
This has to be one of my favorite shots. Thanks for turning it into a wallpaper =)
No, its a fan-frickin-tastic picture! YIPYIP!!!
My favorite Witkin. 2 severed male heads kissing:

http://www.correntical.../1982-Le_baisier.jpg
that was gross, I should not have looked but my curiosity got me, ewwwww
The link listed by Danny Being Manny is my favorite also. I made the same mistake thinking it was two heads when in fact it is only one man's head. It was split down the back leaving only the front face attatched and then laid out to give the look of two kissing. Makes me love it more.
wow uve really captured his style!
xoxoxox
You can try, but you can't wash away misery.
Darn... so I can't just bathe and make you go away?
Pure Genius!
Wow. that head picture was... Ermmmm... Interesting? I thought it was the same head, only I thought it was done with mirrors or photoshop. Not chopping it in half. Oh wow. While that is interesting I think I'lll stick with Motts' photos for now.. And to make this photo related, I thought it was bones at first glance...
Love the shot.
Most amazing faucets I've ever seen.........
call the plumber i think the sink is broken
This is one of my favorite pictures on the whole site. It's really creepy yet beautiful in its own way <3
beautiful.
pure art
that could be an instant classic album cover.... like the swimming baby!!
Gotta say... after reading Motts' original comment, I **almost** googled Witkin. Then, thankfull, I read the user comments.

I did not google Witkin. I WILL not google Witkin. Thank you all for the enlightenment beforehand. Motts continues to be my favorite photographer and I am glad to leave it at that.
(That's supposed to be "thankfully," BTW...)
Hooray for Joel Peter-Witkin!!! XD

It's beautiful. . . Eventhough it's rust, it reminds me of the Baroque era, and gilded objects. . . Maybe it's an industrial form of gilding. . .
I have a Joel Peter Witkin 'coffee table' book. I loved when people would come over and pick it up. It was great to see their reaction. I need to get a coffee table so I can put it out again.
