Chapel

Chapel

I thought this was an auditorium at first, but it appears to be a chapel with the carpeting across the front and the stage seemed more like an altar.

It could be both. Some of these institutions had to double up their space, so this is possible.
It think the school was of Catholic persuasion, so it could very well have been a chapel.
The foot of the rug looks soaked in blood
without the grafitti (sp?) the shot would have been utterly perfect. I dunno.. maybe the spray paint adds to it *shrug*
I would rather see it without the grafitti too!!
could have been a chapel, i think. kids tend to try to "desecrate" this kind of stuff which could account for the pentagram on the far right wall
Rich, a pentagram isn't always a desecration. A pentagram is also used by Wiccans (and Freemasons) - it is not exclusively Satanic by any means. And the chances are excellent it was some stupid punk kid who was just trying to get a reaction, anyways, rather than someone's calling card.

See:

The pentagram is the traditional pentagram with five points of the star - one point up and two down, enclosed in a circle. This style of the pentagram, has existed and been used for thousands of years. The first records of it's use is dating back 5500 years, and was used in the ancient Mesopotamia, where it was used by the rulers, as a symbol of power and energy in the stasis of the four corners of the world known by then.
The early Greeks imported the pentagram for several uses. First of all the Mesopotamian community was well organized, strong and an envy to the Greeks. So to gather some of the powers within the Mesopotamian society, the Greeks used the pentagram.
I see skye may be as interested in the occult and paranormal as I am.As far as that particular pentagram goes it was probably made by some teenagers that have no clue what it means but just think it represents evil from what they have seen in films and such.
And as far as real worshipers of evil go they mainly use much more complex hexagrams that are laden with symbols rather than actual pentagrams.
When some people see thePentagream/Penticle the associate it with Satanism... that is inorrect .. The pentagram has also been used and related to Christianity. Up to the medieval times, the five points of the pentagram represented the five wounds of the man they call Jesus Christ and the Holy Cross. The symbol was always mend to be a symbol of goodness, and later used to represent the four elements and the Spirit of mankind. Interesting huh
I was raides in the old druidic/Pagan ways and the paranormal stuff.. well lets just say I have good inner insight and can feel what old buildings that are long gone like..
Not to mention the upper half stood for the sky and thus the male energy of the cosmos and the lower half the earth and the feminine aspect.Saddly kids do things to be cool or get a reaction without much thought to the meaning of it.
The number '5' has always been regarded as mystical and magical, yet essentially 'human'. We have five fingers/toes on each limb extremity. We commonly note five senses - sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. We perceive five stages or initiations in our lives - eg. birth, adolescence, coitus, parenthood and death. (There are other numbers/ initiations/ stages/ attributions).

Expressing the saying "Every man and every woman is a star", we can juxtapose Man on a pentagram with head and four limbs at the points and the genitalia exactly central. This is Man in microcosm, symbolising our place in the Macrocosm or universe and the Hermetic/Tantric philosophy of associativity - "As above, so below".

There are five elements, four of matter (earth, air, fire and water) and THE quintessential - spirit. These may be arrayed around the pentagrams points. The word 'quintessential' derives from this fifth element - the spirit.
Even though this pentagram was probably put there just because this does look like a chappel, Skye is right.
and Quintessential; Quint= 5,fifth. Essential = Of the senses.
Gosh, this layout looks exactly like the chapel/auditorium where I used to work with the developmentally disabled.

I'd think it was the same building if I wasn't out on the West Coast.
Amen, whatever it was.
Pentagram. Ancient symbol taken from the star of David. The star sometimes had a circle or not. Pagans stoled symbol
for false devil worship. Christian symbol
found in anicent belief way before fake
druidism came along. It was a symbol
of repent , from ancient belief in texts
in jerusalem. Which is holy and pagans
trangressed against will have to repent.
For christian beliefs came first as in written in the stars.
Seen many old christian texts with
symbol of star. It could have six points or
five with or without circle. Even one with
seven points as many as eight. Studied
christian ancient symbols....
Christianity is only two-thousand years old. Symbolic stars of any fashion have been around a LOT longer than two-thousand years. Bzzzz ... try again. Thanks for playing.
If u were a true christian and studied texts
within Rome ,Jerusalem you would not claim that christianity evolved 2,000 years ago when King Davids time was 6,000 years ago before christ as a prediction. Christianty had other names such as Judah the twelve tribes. Such as King Davids star. In the book of genesis God of the heavens and earth created the stars. Were used way before even King Davids time. It don't take fake star groups to figure you out. In your unknowlege of Ancient Stars. Which were made by God. Way before man=christianity before the passion. Do it for the Mel.
As much as I'd love to point out the gross errors of your "studies," I respect Mr. Motts' site enough not to clutter his Comments board with theological argument. I'd be more than happy to continue this conversation with you, Skeety, over in Opacity's Forum (the link is above the "Post A Comment" box). See you there.

Look for the girl with the stars in her eyes and you're gone.
this place is photo viewing and being it is chapel it came out a christian topic.
noone is interested in serrenas gross views herself that clutter this place with junk replies and rude remarks of other viewer replies. I came her to see the photo not serrenas badmouthing remarks about the chapel photo. And her
rude theological remark. Not only should serrena mr motts site but other viewer replies. Which I find slandering to most.
Motts, I apologize in advance...

If you don't like the comments we make, why are you reading them? The site is set up so that you can look at the beautiful pictures at the top and not even know there are comments underneath unless you go out of your way to look for them. I spent my first month not even knowing they were here! As with anything in life, be adult enough to ignore the things you don't want to read/hear/see. That's what the rest of us do...
Skeety -- er, I mean "Unknown" -- Exposed nerves get a might bit painful when somebody's aware of their existance.

You cared enough about what I said to comment - behind a screen of anonymity, no less - and that alone speaks volumes more than my literate fingers could possibly give justice to.
The thoughtful views that Serrena and others provide for these photos, is what makes this site so interesting. I have learned very valuable insight as to the how and why of so many things here.

Viewing the photos without reading the comments is like watching TV with the audio muted.
If you read the bottom of each page there is also a note that posting under multiple aliases can get your comment deleted and/or you can have your IP address banned. For those who are unaware, when you send a comment in to a website such as this, the Administrator (Motts) can see who sends the comments in. That is why he made the comment about posting under multiple aliases. My personal belief - if you believe it enough to say it, be responsible enough to claim credit for it.
Not to mention, above all this clamour or slandor and rant, the pentagram/pentacle is inverted.
I read somewhere that the pentagram was never really associated with evil, only slightly in misconception during the Inquisition years, or the Witch Hunt years. Later, in the 19th century, it was related to evil when a Mr. Eliphas Levi illustrated the upright pentagram of microcosmic man beside an inverted pentagram with the goats head of Baphomet.

The pentagram has a long history of usage in many cultures and beliefs: Ancient Mesopotamia, Hebrews, Greeks, Gnostics, Druids, Egypt, Pagan Cults, Medieval Christians and even Christian Emperor Constantine I.
Today, it is well known by neo-pagans and wiccans as a powerful symbol that aids them in thier ways.
The majority of society often regards any form of the pentagram/pentacle as a symbol of evil and desicration.
Heavy Metal bands (death metal) such as Slayer and others have often used the pentagram as a decal for their cover albums.
And of course horror movies and the sort have also attributed the pentagram with evil, due to heightened interest in the genre of popular FICTION movies.
I once saw a Japanese movie use a pentagram, it was based in the emperial eras. It was heavily based on occult nature. The movie was "Onmyoji".

Aside from all that mumbo jumbo, I like the picture very much.

It does resemble a chapel, but now in its ruined state, it looks very intrigueing. The sort of thing that fictional writers could get an inspiration from just looking at it once.
Sorry to burst any bubbles, but it was juat a chapel in the administration building. It was multi-denominational. Both the Catholic and Jewish faiths did a lot of work at this institution.
well - I'm glad that's settled!
