OMG, another place with the lights still working? I dont understand,..... who pays the bill ? Was the light on when you got there, or did you try the switch?
The lights were on; I try to leave the building as is, turning lights on and off isn't a good idea unless you want to see the place get sealed up tight in a few days.
That is so weird........how many years could those bulbs possibly be, and still be working?
What's pathetic is that MY lights never even last a few months and these things have been continuously working since the beginning of time. Where's the danged justice there? 8-(
Maybe this is just another zen koan - "If there's no one there to soak up the light rays, do light bulbs last longer?"
;-)
I have heard that the life of an electric lamp is shortened by turning it on and off. I once read of a lamp in a firehouse somewhere back East that had been "on" for an astounding number of years. it lasted for it had never been turned off. In these lamps being left on they may last for years to come.
Meds? I would rather goto Giant then get meds from here.
This place is right next to an active hospital, so it is somewhat maintained. In fact, as I found out, the entire basement has working flourescents.
Even though the lights have been on for what seems to be forever, the lights give the impression that someone has recently been there. Which may make you look over your shoulder here and there *wink*
This fixture may be part of an emergency lighting or safety circuit, in which case it is designed to always stay on. As long as there is power to the building it would be in operation. In responce to the question of longevity notice that it is a flourescent, which, particuallarly the type purchased for a large insttuion where cost is a factor, could be an extened life version.
I guess youre right. But If there are windows "Someone" (besides Motts and now us) must know the lights are still on... seems like a major fire hazard. Must look pretty freekin scary at night seeing lights burning in a delapodated building, gives me the creeps!
the light that Wilberforce is referring to is located in New York in a firehouse, i think. apparently, it has been burning for about 106 years. i'ts only gone off once due to a blackout.
if this is the place I think it is, part of the facility is still being used. There are newer buildings ca. 1960-1980 in the back of the grounds. You would think they would cut the power to the abandoned buildings tho...unless they want them to burn down.
I think they leave these lights burning to give the impression that someone is in the building. It does have an effect though, because I was more nervous walking into the lighted areas than I ever was walking into any dark tunnel. lol
mayhap the light are waiting for the staff to return
This is where Nurse Ratchet hands out the Lithium!

The New York Firehouse lightbulb, which still burns. Is also an original Edison Lightbulb made by Thomas Edison. I remember reading about the bulb in the Guinness World Record. Just shows they don't make lightbulbs the way they use to...
Thats an amazing photo! OOOhhh yeeah
The light bulb in question can be found here. It is in California.

i live right by this place, in fact there is NO ELECTRICITY runing to the shut down parts of the school, i went in there with a group of friends and it was mid summer 80 degrees outside and around 30 degrees inside, we went in all of our cell phoens died and the first floor was flooded on the side we entered when we were scared shitless we left and the water moved from one side to the other, 13 people were arrested that night
in reference to the "You would think they would cut the power to the abandoned buildings tho...unless they want them to burn down." comment. ironically the administrative building on the top of the hill did burn down, thanks to some hoodlems
Did someone mention that often power & gas are left on to stop copper thieves from stripping out the wiring and pipes.
What kind of meds do they take?
I'll have a chlorpromazini, thanks.
"If Mr. McMurphy doesn't want to take his medication orally, I'm sure we can arrange that he can have it some other way. But I don't think that he would like it."

"You'd like it, wouldn't you Harding!"
Motts, have you ever had to turn the lights on or off for any reason in buildings where theres still power?
Nope
Well, how scary this is; to find the lights on! And maybe even worse at night and in darkness. You are a brave man! May you always be well is my wish.

Question: Is the color of the sky blue or green?
