no wonder they had so much dental equipment, everyones toothbrushes where locked up !!
THATS REALLY WEIRD THAT THE TOOTH BRUSHES ARE THERE
Funny, looking at the age and condition of the place, I was almost surprised to see that they're all brighly-colored plastic.
Bizarre...very neatly arranged too.
Wooden ones would have been long but gone by this time.
not that they wouldn't have held up, just that they were no longer in use, sorry for any confusion, everyone.
Good idea locking up toothbrushes, we had a patient that swollowed everything she could. Had surgery for removing necklaces, bracelets, TOOTHBRUSHES. When a patient asked for a new toothbrush once and I had to order some from Central Supply, I told him to ask Jasmine or whatever, she swollowed most of them.
I would have taken the entire collection - cabinet and all!!
Wierd....they got left behind.
multiple, foamy, dripping toothbrushes...UGH!
Another creepy, concentration camp-esque picture. Isnt there some eating disorder where people eat random objects?
Viveka, it's called pica behavior. It's an abnormal craving for and eating of substances not normally eaten.
All children seem to have pica to a limited extent.I even tried eating play dough when I was a kiddo.I think pica might be one of the reasons why paints are not lead based anymore.Kids eating paint flakes with lead in them was not a good thing.
Orchid Lunar, weren't you surprised at how salty it was. I loved the smell so much, I had to try it too. It wasn't very tasty.
A nice variety of colors
for some reason i would get a sense of sadness if i were there, seeing those toothbrushes still there would be too real. knowing that ppl actually had to stay here!
Where did these patients go and why didn't they take their toothbrushes. its really bizarre.
were they labled with names?
Yes each had the last name and first initial of the owner.
it looks like something out of the Twilight Zone. like they all got picked up by a UFO or something and nothing changed after they left and no one returned......and no body knew they left
So where did they all go? Everyone takes their toothbrush when they go somewhere!
It's actually quite tragic when you think about it, these toothbrishes are just waiting patiently for their owners to come back for them. Always waiting patiently...
Lol thats some scary stuff right there XD
i realy want those toothbrushes if you ssteal them il give you $50 XD
The couple in the middle are making out.
I want the superman one.
wow so old too
I want the toothbrush with Black Sabbath on it. It is way better than a superman toothbrush.
Why did they leave their toothbrushes behind? Such a waste of some good tooth brushes... =|
All of these have been stolen.. Every last one.
I guess that when they transfered the residents from here to where ever it was they wound up it was just much more easy to buy them all new toothbrushes rather than ship all these? Just a thought? Still. Creepy really... AND I'm a bit OCD and very picky about my personal belongings. I would of not done well if I had to give over my toothbrush. To my way of thinking, I would not of been able to abide the idea and very real possibility that my toothbrush was being housed with and possibly dripped upon from other people, (strangers) spitty, drippy toothbrushes. Yuck yuck nastygross! But like I said I'm a bit OCD and germs, especially public strangers germs are a thing with me.
Ahh, the real reason Motts came to this particular place, he had left his toothbrush behind. You can see where it was held on the middle of the right side of the cabinet.
very weird.
what's behind door number one?
50 toothbrushes! Had you chose door number two you would have won 2 million dollars!
Oh, so sorry, but you did win the toothbrushes!
The two brushes in the middle of the left cabinet-see that's why I don't want my toothbrush in a communal cabinet...ewww.....!!!
Between the last picture and this one, I really feel like I want to know how everything turned out for the folks who used to live here............this is eerie!
The two brushes in the middle of the left are the reason i keep my tooth brush in my room, that and my mom forgets which brushes are hers and uses others.
awsome find!
That is quite odd....
this is the kind of thing i love to come across, real personal stuff... it really brings home the reality of it all and makes you think about what the people who the things belonged to must have gone through, their thoughts, their lives, intriguing, sad and disturbing all at the same time.
think about it, your out trying to meet new people, they ask so what do you do for a living? You would answer "I am keeper of the toothbrushes".
91 toothbrushes at the time of this photo, They once belonged to real people with real illnesses. Theres hoping that many of them got their life back!
This shot really brings it home, even though we sit here on our comps looking at these pics, hhere it is.... people really did live here in varying degrees of illness, something so personal, left behind, on purpose I think to remend us that there is a history ......
Prior to seeing photos of this particular place, I really did sometimes think about toothbrushes, etc in hospitals.
So that's where I left my toothbrush...
If I have these I can clean my bathtub for life!!!
They were locked up as they could be sharpened into stabbing tools by simply grinding them on a cement wall or floor.
wow! great pic!
omfg
This is strangly beautiful to me. I love it!
o.o thats like weird and cool and gross at the same time
