This makes me think of a photograph I once saw of another old asylum chair.. this one was made so that the back could be laid flat and the foot could be lifted so that, once done, the chair turned into a gurney. Perhaps this is something similar?
That chair looks kinda like someone went all creative and construced a footrest on it. Sounds like something my friend would do anyway.
It could have been used as a comode or perhaps the chair was used as a form of restraint.
Amanda, that looks nothing like this chair, no offense. I think that barber chair looks torturerous! But I love the one in this photo!
