Another brilliant image with nice dull hues. The morning sun can be so captivating, and you know just how to capture it Motts.
As usual, Mr. Motts, the colors and perspective are flawless. I was thrilled to see another set up tonight. Can't you spend your life entertaining and educating us with these pix? ;-)
Seriously, you need to put a lot of these pix together for a book and get them published somewhere.
Thank you, I was hoping to get a book printed but the cost to do so is very high... perhaps after I've built up more photos and have some money to spend I will be able to do something like that.
you should put up a place on your site for donations to get a book published..........i dont know if its something you want to do, but i know i would donate :-)
Wow, cool thanks... I don't like asking for money unless I'm really in a pinch.

I wonder how many people would buy such a book though, I might end up with a thousand copies sitting in my closet. Maybe I'll make a poll or something...
For images like this - I think you would have quite a buying audience, including myself.
Same here. Lemme know when it is going to be printed and I'll pre-pay for a copy.
First comment,, Can't help but browse this awesome website for hours on end. I too would buy a book if it were published!! Motts,, I love the pictures! Keep up the good work!
Well, Motts, I think you should publish a book too. I know that I would cherish such an item, forever.
As for money, if you don't feel like asking for it, what's saying we can't have a garage sale of sorts?
You know, all of us who support you, start up an e-bay account under all of us, and have all the money go to you, and we would send what we sold?
Pictures like these are worth sharing with the world. And I'd buy a couple of copies to give us special gifts. I know people who would love your photos.
That sounds like a lot of trouble for you guys to go through, but I'm genuinely flattered by the idea!

I'm looking into a way of selling prints where I wouldn't have to print and ship them all myself (otherwise nothing would get done)... I just need to print some samples from them to make sure they look good enough, then code the links into this site. It's not quite a book, but it's something I could give in hard copy.
Motts, a book filled with your pics would sell no problem, if you found a publisher who liked your work (which im sure you would have no problem finding) some publishers put up the money for the printing,... you should look into it, your pics are great!
and PS... I WOULD BUY 2 - one to look at and one as a collectors item.
I would buy your books! I like Kassies idea, you have got to get these published!!!
I too would willingly purchase a book with these pics...
So . . . how many more people have to say something about purchasing a book to get you started looking at this seriously? ;-)
Let's go!
Mr. Motts, if you approach the right publisher, you won't have to pay a penny, as they foot the bill. I may be able to help you in that area. I used to work for a book publisher, Barclay Books, L.L.C. Email me if you would like to chat. My address is: kathinr@yahoo.com. I believe this has potential and I may be able to steer you in the right direction.
There is a market for this type of photography. A fellow explorer that I know has had a book published with Arcadia Publishing, titled "Forgotten Columbus". He's working on a second book now...
Count me in
I would love book with these pictures!
I'm jumping on the band wagon here Motts. I think your pics are good enough to go pro. The market is primed for this subject matter. it would be a hell of a lot cooler than ninj's book, and I'll bet you would sell some copys. Think it over.
yeah im joining the bandwagon...i think you should make the book and put some history in there too and maybe blueprints...i dont know just a thought :D
If I came across these in a book there is no way I could walk out of the bookstore without it! These are wonderful!
Motts, I couldn't donate much, but whatever I could, if it would help get a book of these awesome places, I would buy a copy (maybe A cd rom of all the wonderful places you've been) Put me down first for a copy!!!! - Ed from Oregon
you have a true talent for catching the essence of what you are photographing...add me to ur list of admirers
NICE PHOTO!!!! Do you sleep there or something.
I'd love to have a room filled with these pictures hanging on all the walls. Your photography is fantastic!
I haven't looked through this gallery yet! I have been dropping hints to Motts here and there throughout his site about publishing a coffee table glossy!!!

Oh, please email me "redwoodv" at that hot mail place to let me know if (and when) you do go for that idea! I'll buy TWO of them! :o)

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this wonderful site, Motts!
i like the pink reflection beautiful
MOTTS, you NEED to publish....I would buy one. Do you have summer, outdoor craft shows where you live? Take some of your more innocuous prints and sell them there....but, I am sure, like everyone else, that you WILL find a publisher. Keep us posted if anything comes of this.....
MOTTTSSSSS! I love your stuff, its amazing. Count me in on a book publishing part.
That's an awesome idea as you do have a talent but you should also add history of the places you go.
A book? A sure-fire hit!! I'd buy one for myself and several for gifts. Pleeeeezzzzz, Motts!
I would absolutely buy a book if there was one--same with prints. The pics are fantastic! If you're keeping a mailing list to inform people of the availability of such things, please add me: rat (at) dragonwriter (dot) net. Thanks!
Wow. I have to agree. A book of these prints is a must. The world is not yet complete without these!

I'm in awe and I can't sstop browsing this site. It is in my favourites.

You should also think about exhibiting. a small cube room, large matte finish black and white prints, very little lighting.....perfect.
You don't need to self-publish. You just need to get a proposal together and snag a good agent to do the schmoozing for you. A lot of your photos are similar to the Simon Marsden shots I'm lucky enough to get as covers for some of my novels.

Definitely an exhibit is in order, too.
How do you find places like this? And get permission to go in them and actually take pictures? I love your photos! And I hope to one day become a photographer and take photots like your's... E-mail me if you will... Marstardust_66@yahoo.com
Wow, a good friend turned me on to your site.. I am enthralled! Will be showing my gothy daughter the site as well and keep checking back in case you DO get a book of photos published.. would love a couple copies.
Motts, you have quite a fan club, me included!
I have told a bunch of friends about your site. Several of us here at my day job (when we are NOT busy...lol)browse this site...( I am especially guilty of this, but I can't help meself...) Please do publish....I'd buy a few books...maybe give some as gifts! Great idea!

Maybe you should contact that show on cable....Travel Channell has a show...Americas Most Haunted(?) Imagine THEM going HERE, to the BASEMENT....with all their Blair-Witch equipment....a Hollywood movie in the making...
Isn't that what they did to Session 9. (which I didn't think was that great by the way)
Mr. Motts,
I have recently discovered that there are others in the world who share my fascination with abandoned buildings. Your pictures have caused me to stay up much too late, and I am obviously not alone. I have looked at a number of wonderful sites in the past week but your work gives me the joy of feeling that I am in the building. I would willingly purchase (or ask a family member to purchase for me as a Christmas gift!) a book of your explorations. Thank you!
I love the reflection on the wall of the window. God damn I want to go in there so bad. I think I'm going to just do it.
Ps- I love your photography and if you wanted a prototype of a book I could make one, I'm in graphics and I have the ability to make books. not top notch ones, but theyre alright
After some initial discussion with friends in the industry, I've decided to publish a book, but it will be down the road a bit... I have so many places I've been to and haven't gotten to go through the photos yet, and would want my first book to have the most incredible places in it. Thanks for all the feedback!
That's cool, Motts. I'm sure an editor would have considerable feedback on what to put in the book. Keep us informed on your progress (aka trials and tribulations).
I wait with bated breath!!! You're not just saying this so we'll stop harassing you, are you?
I hope not! There's an empty space on my coffee table specially set aside :-)
Someone in Mexico (me) would happily order 100 to give away as presents. Please please, do a book!
Yay!!!! *gets out Christmas list*
Yahoo! I've been waiting since 5/24/05 to hear this! :-)
Motts, this is wonderful news !!! I cant wait
I can't think of a better book for my coffee table!! ;-)
I guess that would mean I need to buy a coffee table!
I don't even drink coffee, but I'd get a coffee table to put underneath your book, once it comes out
Thats fantastic, i cant wait untill its published.
if and when it's published you should have some system where you can buy it off the site.
I'm so glad to finally read you are going to be published. I have a good pile of photojournalism books. I'll move them all off the table for yours!
I would move a bed in there instead of a coffee table
Would def. buy a book as well, ooo can't wait, so excited.
Exqisite light, shadow, and color.
Your photographs are simply stunning. I discovered this site a few days ago and have been glued to my pc ever since. I would definitely buy a book, and know many more that would, too.
I know that I am a "new-be" here at this site, but I would definetly by a book, that you do, I love your photography and the thought that you put in your work, let me know when this happens, I would love to buy one from you!!!!!!!
Bravo Mr.Motts!!!
You have succseeded in capturing the very essence of a horrifying scene such as this!!!
Well Done!!!
Motts, man, I know A LOT of kids who would go out and buy a book (including me) if you did one. And you wouldn't have to worry about left-overs; your book would probally be a best seller!
Wow I am speechless and mesmerized. Cant stop looking at all these fantastic pictures..... I hope the book goes through!!
motts cant wait for your book to come out i have been looking at your photos alot for a while and have just recently started commenting them and they are fricken sweet and trust me you will have noooo problum selling copys (hell i'd buy 15 just to scatter around my house)
i would buy multiple copies of your book! have you looked into the print on demand thing? actually, i don't really know much about it myself except that they are printed as ordered and i don't think you would need to put down a lot of money up front.
hello, site is cool.
Motts, you enthrall me with your artistry! What's the latest update on your book? Gift-giving season approaches once again, and I'm getting anxious to send some green your way!
Any chance you'll be coming to the Left Coast? We have our share of old sites...mostly still in use (**shudder**)!
Is that a bricked up window above the present one? see the arch of it? Or is it just me?
Thanks peggyanne, I might have a joint book project in the works soon... and I will try and make it to the west coast soon.

amanda, there is definitely some interesting brickwork there, it seems a bit cramped to place a window there though...
Love the sun coming through the window. It's pretty. I know my friend would deffinetly buy a book with these kinds of pictures. He loves looking at old buildings.
There is obviously ornate brickwork behind the inlaid plasterboard (I assume; might be drywall or sheetrock) wall. A shame that it was covered up, though with good reason - drywall would break if a patient bashed their head on it, while brick wouldn't give as willingly. ;)
YAAAAYYY!!!! A book by Mr. Motts!!!! You should totally go for it! O! O! And you could included a link to your site and you could say its for all the people at this site!!! Oooo! I can picture the cover and everything! You has to make the book! You done got everyone's hopes up! ^.^ Yaaaaayyyyy! Major happiness! That just made my day! :)
wow if you look up at the top of this photo it appears to have some kind of face in it:) kinda creepy. but yes your photography is really awesome, keep up the great work!!!!
@fuzzycuffs420 thats the first thing i saw too.. It looks so creepy..
this is the creepiest this far
