Hopefully they will save at least part of the subway tunnel. Problem is, the city has so many problems and is throwing so much money away on that stupid fast ferry - filling in the subway tunnels is just another way of throwing yet more money away. Bah! Do not move to Rochester NY. Life is NOT worth living here!
This is all fine and great!....one question though, where was the power plant for this system? Does that still exist?
BORN IN GREECE NY. NOW LIVING IN TEMPE, ARIZONA. I WALKED THE OLD SUBWAY ABOUT FIFTEEN YEARS AGO WITH A FRIEND AND A GUN, WHAT A GREAT TIME.
ROCHESTER SHOULD BE PUTTING THEIR MONEY INTO GIVING SUBWAY TOURS INSTEAD OF THE FAST FERRY, OUT WITH THE NEW AND INTO THE OLD. ( NEVER NEEDED THE GUN )
I remember when i worked at frontier telephone(local tell company in rochester) some homeless ppl had started a fire down there and destroyed many fiber and copper lines.
hey mots u should go to Cincinnati where thers an entire subway network that was never used! Its awsome there are like 6 stations and even tunnels that reach the outside. I would love if u could come and see them..the pictures would be fantastic!
I was also born in Rochester and lived in Greece 11 years before I moved to Nashville, TN and I didnt even know there was a subway till after I moved down here. I would love to move back up there
i once lived in rocherter when i was young. i have good memories there. i was a country girl bfore that, it was a wild thing for me. moved to leroy and then here in sc, and love it here. but love the history all over. i was surprise to see this one . thk u.
In the 2005 mayoral election this became a minor issue people hated the idea of losing it and Duffy won and now we will have a great place to shoot dope i love dope, junk, boy, horse
PS theres so many abandon building in rochester and houses but most are in the ghetto the rochester getto is worst then harlem and more drugs its great
I've taken so many photos here, very interesting history
And ALL this is going to be filled in with dirt?!? I could name alot of things from my area where they did that. Makes me feel wierd, yet sad, to know we're walking on top of things that "used to be" below us.
Rochester has a rich history and colorful past. I am still fascinated by the accomplishments this area has achieved through the years. The subway may not have been in existance for very long and ended its service amidst disappointment, but not all historically important subjects end with a posititve outcome. I still marvel at the "hidden" archive that resides under a city that barely remembers its existance. I'm sorry that "Rochester Gal" is so pessimistic about living here. I've found plenty of reasons to be happy about being a part of this community and I'm proud to call it my home.
The dirt fill in is interesting, some archaelogist of the future will be excavating the same dirt and labeling this site as important, too bad our wasteful society can't think of anything better to do with it.
Only you could turn an abandoned subway station into something artistic and interesting!! Great shot!
Hummm..... the Market/Frankfort line......
I'm from West Henrietta, right outside of Rochester and never knew this was here! I moved to L.A. for the sunshine, tho. It rains too much in Rochester!
i live in rochester right now. it is a great town.
I am also the only one on this site who thinks so
