This bar was known as the Wedgewood Room. Back in the 70's Speedy Garfin and the Garfin Gathering played during the summer. Wonder Woman star Linda Carter was a singer in the band.
That is the original carpeting, or at least as old as the early 60\'s.
I worked with Speedy during the summers of '77 and '78 and I remember this room very well. Very fond memories. When I was with the band, Linda Collins was the vocalist. I joined the Garfin Gathering after Linda Carter.
after a few drinks that funky carpet would have me "garfin"
Whatever possessed them to use that carpet type is beyond me other then the time it was ..
AUGHHHH!

Though I guess you wouldn't care after a few vodka and cranberries. Plus the carpet pattern would hide any vomit stains.
I lOVE THE PINES!!!!!
The Pines really needs its very own horror novel. Your photos are seductively spooky.
I couldn't imagine having to look at that carpet smashed
I spent many a night watching Speedy, my dad, there.
Most of the time, I couldn't see the carpet for the smoke. Great memories of things above the carpet though.
I LOVE the pines. It has like a "shining" charm to it.
We should all have a Road Trip to explore The Pines.
That'd be cool.
C'mon road trip road trip
Complete with wood panelling walls.
Hey Josh G , Speedy's son...I actually babysat for you...and of course Speedy...what more can a person say but..."It's a grand night for singing!". And yes...that carpeting was a bit puzzeling even back then ! But we were there..........
If I could get into this hotel, Id take the stuff from this bar and furnish my basement with it.
after 26 summers, and a thousand memories, I moved to Kutshers, where 2006 may be the last summer there.
70's era all the way i could see John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. DISCO!!!! Stayin alive stayin alive ah ah ah stayin alive.
Nixon Vietnam Era "I am not a Crook".
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Wish I could put that entire bar right into the trunk of my Cadillac and redecroate my condo with it.
I played in Speedy's band back in the 80's and played the Pines for four summers. Met my ex-wife there...must have been the carpet
thats not the bar is it? isnt that the coffee shop where we played go screw your neighbor
i retract that last comment the coffee shop was down the flight of steps next to this bar
Someone should make a video tour of this hotel, Id buy a copy, along with souveniers from the hotel. I want to see it and grossingers for myself once it gets warm out again. I'll just set my Caddy's GPS for the pines and have a road trip.

How could anyone forget Michael? He was a lifer! Hee, I said "lifer". JK, love ya Mikey. Besides, by most standards I probably came pretty close to being one myself.
Anyway, I wish more people would leave a post when they stop by. I know they are all lurking!
Hey Smitty- Who's workin' late?!
I'm pretty sure it's Dina's turn!
I still can't remember Mike, could you tell me what he looks like and what years he was working at the pines? There was a name Rick Newman on the stage chat who i remember, he was stage mang.

bada bing vibe going on
Little slow tonight, eh Lloyd?
What the!!!!
Hey, T - by any chance were you a waiter back in those days? With an end room in the Ritz? Comments I've seen you post sure sound like an old friend.....
I think I may be! You can email me at l82bedagain(at)yahoo.com
Actually, Dona reading your other comments you may have been just before my time there (I was there late 80's). It's funny to read how many different generations of Pines employees have all posted the exact same experiences though.
Speedy Garfin...if you should come back to this site and look at the Wedgewood Room carpeting once again...please e-mail me - I was that crazy blonde that would always request that you do "Along Came Jones"...what you did with that Clarinet..well we do have our memories...e-mail me at Doreen4remax@aol.com ...If Kutchers is still around in the summer of "07" I will come up there with my hisbamd and my children just to see you and enjoy your "Along Came Jones"... You were and still are the best!!!!

Thanks for the memories,
Doreen :)
Speedy,

When you have a moment drop me a line.

Danny
Donna---was there a life guard when you were there---a blonde named Halina?
Howie,
Yup - She left a few months after I started there. Right around the same time as the head lifeguard, don't remember his name - just that he was a vegetarian. I ended up the only lifeguard for that winter - 1980-1981.
I don't know what ever happened to Helana, but she was definitely someone you don't forget...... When I first started there I shared a room with her. I was quite happy when that arrangement ended!!!
I went back to the Pines in the summer of 2006 its very depressing. My son went to kutchers camp and I wanted to show him where i spent my summers.....o the memories
I loved Speedy Garfin. I use to yell out "Fire and Rain" Laste shows where great too with Sal Richards. Jackie Mason, Freddie Roman. MaL Z..... great times of my life.
With that carpet, it's a good thing people usually don't have hangovers before going to the bar!
anyone remember "rock" the valet guy a t the chalet. you laid a fin on him and you got to park down in front...
hey donna; i'm sure i worked there during the same time as you...from '79 through summer '81
Howie - yeah, I'm sure we were there at the same time as well - and I think we hung out with many of the same people. Tom (not Tom-Tom from here), Chris, Steve D., Sue, Nancy, etc
Slim - Rock was definitely unforgettable! I heard he is still around Fallsburg, driving a cab.
I bet mad people brought shrooms here. Motts, you are correct, the carpet is exteremly trippy!
I played my last Catskill summer at Kutshers in 2007. So many memories, but I don't linger on the carpets. Living in Nevada for the last 33 years, and still tootin my horn.
Big Rock was a bell hop too
My Dad is and was Johnny Greco. He was te emcee at the Pines for almost 30 years. If you were part of the Garfin Gathering for any of that time - 1960-1990 - Please contact me. I'm thinking of writing a book about how cool it was growing up in the Catskills during those years!!
"Smoke. smoke that cigarette". How well I remember Johnny.
You can e-mail me at Howardgarfin@sbcglobal.net
Warren used to be one of the bartenders here and in the bar by the dining room, back in the early 80's. I hope he check's this board. He was fun and was one of the employees I remember from when I worked there.
"Speedy" Garfin was headlining for "Slowly" Barfin' wasn't he? lol
Where's Lloyd?
