Stains

Stains

I wasn't sure why this room interested me so much, maybe it was the small and cramped feeling I got just by walking in, or the very disturbing colors on the walls.

In any case, it was preserved quite well, and after taking this photo I noticed the glare on the wall seemed to still show stains...

Luckily for you it didn't spell out REDRUM!!
I like the above comment! Strange color. Was this a patient room?
There was a period of time (70s or 80s) where people were supposed to paint seclusion and time-out rooms Pepto-Bismol pink. There was some research to show it had an initial calming effect. Ironically, later research apparently showed that continued exposure to the color actually revved people up after the initial calming effect, but unfortunately it took a while for people to figure this out, and few people were in time out or seclusion for a short period of time. Horrid color, really. I can't tell if this is salmon, pink, or orange.
Note the old-style door. I've been noticing these throughout.
Also notice the old style vent .
THANK GOD SOMEONE IS CAPTURING ALL THIS ON FILM{OR DISC}BEFORE IT DISAPEARS FOREVER!!
Yeah, I've noticed that alot of the asylums have pink rooms. That color would drive ME insane. But then again it adds to the creepy feeling you get from these old places that are believed to be haunted.
what Lynne was saying is not only correct, but there was an exact color that was used in many institutions that had to be discontinued for the very reasons she stated, though from what i recall, the phrase "more insane," not "more revved up" was used.
the name of the color (presumably this one) was/is called Baker's Pink.
Dang! That's it! I used to call it "Pepto-Bismol Pink", but you are right - it WAS "Baker's Pink" - thanks! :-)
If you look stright to the right side of the door in the corner by the light switch It looks like to me a image of a man face on the wall . you have too stair at it for a split second.
I noticed that to!Looks kind of like a Phantom of the Opera mask strangely.
Funny, but when I saw thsi room, it reminded me of the scene in trainspotting, where the guy was tripping, and seeing the image of his dead son climb the walls and ceiling. Donno why... Maybe the color and the door?
I just know I wouldn't want to spend alot of time in this room.
Looks more like an office. Doubt they would have elecricity in the room. (light switch)
If my office were that color, I'd come back after hours and paint it!
In reference to Trainspotting, it wasn't his dead son, it was his friend's son. And the man on the wall looks like he has his hands over his ears.
If you look closely, it looks like a head-and-shoulders-shot....of a devilish clown, wearing a weird hat, with a devil-may-care smile...and his hands over his eyes like he's laughing uncontrollably.....
to learn about the study that determined the power of pink.... http://bacweb.the-bac....ms/baker-miller.html
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sue! I have been looking for that reference for a LONG time! I should have remembered, living in the Seattle area in 1985 right after that study came out. And I had always thought the color was named for the color pink that is on the boxes that come out of bakeries. Well, whatdayaknow! Now I can call it by its rightful name - Baker-Miller pink! :-)
Aha! Once again, thank you Sue! Now that I can look up information about this color by knowing its correct name, I also found the reference about the increased exposure to the color having the opposite effect:

(last paragraph)
Thanks Lynne. I remember after the first study came out, a man in my city painted his house that color thinking that no one would break into it because they would calm down. Talk about ugly.

it did repaint it when it was found increased exposure would have the opposite effect. I'm sure the neighbors were happy.
Oh my God - what a disaster! 8`-)
That is a horrid pink and certainly wouldn't calm me down, and one of the other first things I noticed was that face on the wall too.
Believe it or not, when we bought our house, the KITCHEN and second floor HALLWAY were painted that hideous color. Our painter guy had one hell of a time painting over that nasty shit. :0
WHAT IS WITH ALL THE SALMON,PINK, I AM FEELING QUEASY LOKING AT IT!maybe that is how some of the residents felt?
This seriously reminds me of times when i was horribly ill and throwing up. I guess its because the medicine was bubble gum flavored and that exact color.
wow, i understand that it should be calming, but it actualy made me kinda nasuese. and i like this colour. should pepto have this effect? Lynne?
A lot of us have an association from the times we were sick as young 'uns and had to take Pepto-Bismol, although the research I gave links for above suggested that increased exposure was upsetting to some people.

This room, though is a salmon pink - the Baker's Pink they are talking about has to have the exact combination of colors ( R:255 G:145 B:175) and is more of a "bubble gum" pink.

The color they used for this room is just butt-ugly all on its own. :-)
I just noticed the crown moulding WAAAY up there.

Who PICKED those colors....salmon pink and that barfy mustard?? EIW!
it's a kool door. Yes out of the hole pic. Iike the door XD
more pepto dismal hello been lurking abouts the site brings back the times as a kid exploring the abandoned nike missile sites same peeling paint wet floors etc thank you beautiful photography
Check out those high ceilings! This whole place could be made beautiful if someone had the time and money. That's the only thing that shocks me since I got on yhis site; I just can't believe so many people just "walked away" from these buildings and just let them sit there to fall apart. I just don't understand that.
Hi, all. Just found this site a while ago, and, sickly, I LOVE IT. I've always been fascinated by old abandoned buildings, and admit I've been on here for hours over the past month or so. ? for ya. Does anyone know why they only painted (or tiled) the bottom 3/4 or so of the walls in these places and left the rest white? For the most part, it seems to be the case. .l
quick someone call the fab five
If you look closely at the stains on the wall, you can see a face, from the side, as if wearing a gasmask or perhaps covering one's mouth with a cloth? i don'tt know how rellevant that is but that's what came to mind. were old soldiers (supposedly crazy) condemned to life here?
Is that a radiator on the ceiling?
No, it's a light suspended about halfway from a 12' ceiling.
Looks like there was a false ceiling in there at one point.
If it was the nurse unit managers office the stains on the wall were probably from spitting at the administrator after he/she left the room...
the room looks very rather sque-wiff was it really like that or was it your melifluous camarera??
Let me out of this room RIGHT NOW !!!

Signed: An American Soldier in Germany.
The effects of any shade of red pigment (pink, salmon, orange) is well known today as "angry" colors.......of course, LIGHT hues of these colors would have less of that affect, but it IS a pretty gross color to have to look at all day! Wonder why the walls were only painted part-way up.
i see the image too. the man has a beard....sitting on a,,,log...with arms strapped..he seems to be wearing a shabby gown upto the knee...there's a lady behind him standing...horrible looking...i noticed before i read russell's comment...the room?i was actually looking for a salmon pink color as i am going to change my children's fuschia room, when i the net led me to this photo...i just can imagine the smell of this room....i get goosebumps just by looking at it
now...i feel like vomiting......
Yeah... so do I...
That is a horrible color and that light fixture is really creepy
Why would it have another color on top of the Bakers Pink? That fading white/green is really a nasty combination.
BARF!!!!!
What is it with these people and nauseating pink shades? Jeebus!
there are still facilities that have not repainted and walls in certain areas are still that horrid pink color. Usually in basements of hospitals where they put patients nobody really visits... or very old nursing homes.
I would go crazy myself looking at these walls.
Trainspotting.. Baby Dawn was a girl.
I love the movie and I hate this pink! Renton's room had actual train wallpaper.
The ceilings may have lent a feel of supposed airiness, but it looks to me like they could be 5ft lower without much difference. That color would just about kill if a person was hallucinating badly enough...
For some reason I had a flashback of people painting this room.
:)(: lalalala
I couldnt handle the bright colors..id think the lighter colors would have been more comforting..... and such a small space...id go crazy
