Medical Equipment

Medical Equipment

Looks like an massive old pump... again, identifying medical equipment is not my forte.

Stomach pump maybe? For overdoses?
Maybe an ancient ventilator?
if u ask me my guess is that this device is used to breath for a patient who has weak lungs. almost like life support. but then again identifying medical equipment is not my forte either
I agree with MaDMaN
Is that an electric cord or a hose dangling? I keep thinking I see prongs.
well, what ever that machine was, can you imagine being strapped to a table and a nurse or doctor wheeling that thing over to you? Daym!
It is an old time ventilator.
It is most defiently an old time life-suppor system.
I don't feel like it's a ventilator because it's too big and there aren't any gauges.

It looks like it's missing some parts. I keep thinking it was used for suction?
Scott, MaDMaN, Amanda, Cyrus, and Bratty got it - it's an old ventilator (also called a respirator)!

http://www.shef.ac.uk/~a/museum/jefferson_ventilator.html

"Jefferson Ventilator

Originally designed in 1955 as an improvement of the Allbritten designed the previous year. A Classic bag in bottle ventilator, made by Air-Shields Inc in the USA. This one was bought in 1962 for cardio thoracic surgery."
I know - who'da thunk it? I had no idea they were ever that big. I also had no idea that ventilators were only developed in the early to mid-50's. I guess I thought they had been around for a lot longer.
Very interesting. Definetly looks like some kind of ventilator.
It looks like some kind of old respirator to my eye. The kind that used to be used in surgery.
They definitely still have those in hospitals nowadays.
heh, in almost every room.
Next time you're visiting a dying friend check it out!
that is a HUGE ventilator, could you imagine someone hooked up to that, crazy!!!!!
No Motts, identifying pretty much ANYTHING for that matter (not calling you stupid) isnt your forte.

Proven by the infamous soap dispenser.

:P
Yep, definately looks like and old ventilator- the ones used today aren't that different- these are post-iron lung days- when did this facility close......
This was a respirator...for people who could not breath on their own. The pump inside would force oxygen into the lungs, and it would suction the carbon dioxide out.
Whatever it is... I don't like it.
ITS EITHER A ORGAN GRINDER OR BONE GRINDER
OR OXYGEN TANK
Old ventilator maybe judging by the bellows at the bottom of the thing.
Yeah... nothing like trying to grind organs and bones in a respirator. The evil things they did to people and their bodies after the experiments killed them. I's so ashamed. :(
I'm more worried about what happened to the organ grinder's monkey . . . . =8-o
I think Motts took a picture of it's hand a while back... I tried to find the picture but wasn't able to find it.
Lynne you make me laugh!
This is what's called a suction aspirator. It was used for abortions. The fetus would be sucked through the tube and up into the little holding tank.
It is not a suction aspirator used for abortions. It is a Jefferson Ventilator designed in 1955. See Lynne's post above. She even has a link where you can see a picture of one.
It looks like an iron lung to me
Nah, these are Iron Lungs: http://www.opacity.us/...e2691_iron_lungs.htm

;)
What was the infamous "soap dispenser" incident? Anyone care to fill me in? =)
That was when Motts called a soap dispenser a light fixture by mistake, and he's been such a good sport while we've totally blown it out of proportion. Just don't ask about the derbies......
Hey motts, is it only you, or do you have a gropup of people?
looks like a BassOmatic
looks like the ventilator/suction thing used in M.A.S.H
It sorta looks like an old coffee kettle
looks like a robot from a '50s sci-fi movie
loos like an old suction devise of some sort. (maybe) lol
It looks like an early version of the resporator that they use to help you breathe.
Thank God that our respirators these days are much smaller. I would never be able to fit that beast on the ambulance!
IT kinda looks like it would be a stomach pump, wich kind of creeps me out but in a good way!
It's an old ventilator
Yes,it achualley is aventator
I think you’ve made some truly interesting points. Not too many people would actually think about this the way you just did. I’m really impressed that there so much about this subject that’s been uncovered and you did it so well, with so much class. Good one you, man! Really great stuff here.
Working in modern day nursing homes and hospitals--I would think that this machine was a suctioning machine for when people are choking----there would have been another rubber hose at the end which was inserted in the mouth to clear the throat passages of food, or whatever was obstructing the airway.
it might be a soap dispenser...lol
eeeek, another frightening leviathan .....shudder...
you guys are all wrong, its a thing-a-ma-ging
