I don't know why but this shot reminds me of some kind of surrealistic carnival's ticket office. Awesome shot!
It IS a pretty wonderful shot. isn't it? The lighting and the angles of the barred windows is fantastic.
The spiral scrolling on the top of the columns makes me think of screw jacks in the basement supporting the building above...
Lynne i agree the light is everything here ... well it is in most of motts photos , also it looks that the outside its in motion.
This is truly one of my favorite photos. Given how much I like all the 3,000+ pix on this site, that is saying something. There is something very confusing about this - the various parallel lines of the window panes are true to themselves, yet as a group they go different directions and throw your eyes off. Whatever is in the middle is sort of frightening - is it a door or a window? Why do the panes above it go horizontally instead of vertically like the others? Why are there no panes in the window to the right of it? And the best part is the distortion caused by the wide angle lens, making the room look like it is collapsing in on itself.
This is a brilliant shot. :-)
Lynne -- I am curious about something regarding this site. You seem to be the number one commentator -- I have some questions -- would you have the time to e-mail me at jmm@cbknlaw.com? Thanks.
did anyone notice the slight change of angle from the light that comes from the right side after the collumn like if it was taken a few minutes later ...
and the outside ... lol it really looks its passing by
this looks like its crumbling over.
its swallowing itself
id call it the two towers
Those columns look like they came from a Persian palace.
the windows are creepy!!!
Lovely lighting!
The weight of history seems to be riding on these supports. Awesome shot.......
When I was 14, my dad took me and my brother to Eastern State Hospital to visit a friend of ours. Don't remember why he was there, but I remember a room like this full of male patients, just standing around looking so much like lost souls. It gave me many nightmares for a long time. Your photos ignite ones imagination.
