This is a "Pictronic 500" X-ray machine manufactured by Picker X-Ray. I'm not sure the vintage, but it was definitely made before 1967 and is classified as an "antique." My guess of its date is '50s sometime. It appears to match a machine for sale at this link:

Motts, was the x-ray's printer still there? last time i was in that room, it was, and it had a bunch of x-rays near it. it was frewaky, because most were de-formed, with missing or fused limbs, and one had a flat, almost square skull. it was depressing.
No I don't remember seeing that, I might've missed it.
Late 40's early 50's generator mfg by Waite x-ray division of Picker X-ray. Single phase, ~500mA. Solid green paint later model than speckeled green. should have a large oil filed transformer tank nearby
Not to be confused with "Ed From Oregon"
its really cool how the deatailing lines near the buttons is pealing.
Makes me wonder if they always remember to deactivate these machines before abandoning them. Leaving a source for radioactive material in an abandoned building would be one hell of a bad over-sight.
There is no radioactive material in these generators. There's only an x-ray tube which doesn't contain radioactive material.
They ought to "save" one if these hospitals and have all the original equipment in place in each room to tour. That would be great. I love touring old places; homes, ships; and everything is exactly in it's place.
Well, that hospital won't be Byberry. Today's Inquirer reported that Byberry is being torn down and the property being developed into housing and office space. Byberry had 23 buildings with 1.5 million square feet of space!
was there a little man behind the curtain?
Chris, how do you find out for sure if antique xray machine is totally safe?
I work with these machines so i know
Our museum has a Picker Military Control Unit and Tube Transformer Head for a Picker X-Ray Apparatus 15M.A. Stock No. 6-013-680 circa 1952. It's in like-new condition. Any notions of the value or prospective buyers?
What sort of radioactive material would one find in a 1920's circa dental machine. There is one in a local antique mall, complete with the tube etc. Should it be checked? By who?
you cannot find any radioactive material in these machines. There is only a small vacuum tube used to produce x-rays. No danger at all. Thrust me. I work with x-ray machines all day long.
I used to work on them
I noticed someone joe gadd back in November had the same make and model xray machine and questions I have. Does anyone know the value and a prospective buyer of such unit?
Hey Chris would you call me at 785-650-3800. I would like to talk to you about the green thing that goes with this machine. Thanks.
Lets do some pranks with that number!

Byberry has been torn down within the last year. I happen to live not too far from that location. I believe the only thing left is the fence and old entrance ways which are covered in brush.
WOW brings back memories. We still have a portable picker we rarely use but it still passes inspection. Ole faithful. Just as green and has to be plugged in, very accurate to this day.
I have a seiman's unit which I believe is a dental xray.It is about 12 in. in diameter and is in a wood covered old looking fitted box..

STEVE:
Just saw your comment on the Pickers. I just picked one up from an antique store. If you are still monitoring this forum, can you contact me at george.wilhite@tstc.edu. I have a few questions. Thanks.
If the main tube was surrounded by oil as a coolant,it likely is radioactive.
No, the oil is merely collant for the tube, meant to transfer heat. As has been said before, there is nothing radioactive in an x-ray apparatus. A large x-ray tube could be rated at 100kW - and the heat needs to be removed.
This is a 500 mA 110 kVp V-9 control. Discontinued in 1956. Had a 572 series HV transformer.
Later model of the V-9 was called the V-500 and had a 588 series HV transformer. This was discontinued in 1968. Both the V-9 and V-500 had the "Pictronic 500" logo on the front.
I bought Picker ANATOMIC 50R /F xray machine at an auction. Anybody knows how I can get a service manual. willing to pay for it
Manufactured 1984
The museum I work for collected a c. 1962 Picker Galaxy G 500-S x-ray unit, and I'm trying to obtain technical info., manuals, etc. hbajdik@technomuses.ca
I am looking for an antique dental x-ray machine for a physics project. The ideal unit would be a 1927 G.E. dental X-Ray machine in working order, with manuals. Or a comparable unit, possible a Victor. I know that the insulating material degrades and there will be some restoration work involved in order to get it safely operational.

Oops, an ideal unit would be a G.E. Dental X-Ray machine from 1929.

In trade I have an extremely rare WSY0023 Fluxmeter No. 1, made in England in the 1930's it may be the only example, I cannot find another after 8+ years of searching. The Bakken Museum was all over it and wanted me to donate it when I just wanted some information. It needs a proper home in a collection. jc
Yeah, I remember working on the x-ray control shown above. It had tubes for the timer and tubes (6012) to control the main contactor as it was called that fed primary voltage to the HT or high tension transformer.
I have several Picker x-ray machines that I would like to know if anyone collects. They are definitely antique machines. Is there anyone interested in purchasing them or know of a museum or other who would be interested in such machines. They were used in a hospital in Chile a long time ago. Please contact me via email if you have any suggestions on what to do with these machines.

Looks like something in a Frankenstein Movie.
Looking for anyone who can repair Picker Universix 120 x-ray screening machine. The table is not moving and the screening control console is failing to switch on
Cool unit! I jut bought a pretty mint one like this, minus the on board generator, at a swap meet. Perfect cabinet, dials, glass, knobs. Thought I might wire some blinking lights, some sounds, and put it in my home theater, which has a mostly sci-fi theme.
I"ve got one of these Picker V-500s...looks ALOT better and cleaner than this. ...any takers? I also have a vintage upright rolling picker tube stand & Picker manual collimator...plus an old electric flouroscopy table.

My father worked for Picker in the 40"s and 50's. I remember working on this Model in the 70"s, it was old then and talk about being heavy, Its transformer was about 700 lbs compared to todays HF transformers that weight about 50 lbs. Calibration took all day todays equipment takes 5 minutes.

Hi there! I have an T10 style upright picker x-ray fluoroscopy machine. I cannot find any Info on this machine. The coloring is a speckeled green. It looks like a huge green refrigerator with an arm that pulls out and can be raised or lowered and it looks really cool. The serial # is 1212, and it says Waite Mfg. Div. INC. If you have any knowledge of these machines please contact me at tiki_lous@yahoo.com I would love to talk about repairing it and the possible value! I also have the bulb to go with it!

I have a Picker X-Ray Corp Waite MFG Division Stock NO 6-013-680 in almost mint cond, with instuction manual. Does anyone know the value?
renee: I also have the same equipment (stock #6-013-680). If you happen to get any responses, I'd be interested. I also have the 6' stand that goes with the overall field set-up if you don't. Might make your set more valuable, so let me know if you need/want it. Part of my set is missing, but the parts that are left, including the x-ray replacement tube and some other hardware are in mint condition as well. I see a lot of offering of this stuff for four-figure numbers, but not sure if anyone's buying. Anyone here have any thoughts on that?
I have a late 1920s dental Xray machine. I am moving from Northern Virginia to CA. It is in storage and will be moved within a couple of months. I have manuals which where in the door of the machine but are now packed separetly. Any interest contact TVCHANNEL01 at gmail.com
