Like everything else in this hospital this picture alone is a little disturbing.
I went in yesterday and i cant find a lot of these places
It's strange to have this chart in a place like Pennhurst as I doubt there were many births here. Since it was in an xray room I assume it had something to do growth plates, but again.... what was this chart doing in Pennhurst??
You lucky people, I cant go to Pennhurst because I live halfway across the country.
rusty,

I take it you used to work there or live there?
nah, I'm doing a documentary for National History Day about the Pennhurst and Fernald State Schools in the eugenics movement and found this website while looking for interviews. I'm from Colorado.
Don't forget to read about the Lynchburg Colony if you are covering eugenics. One of the best books out there on the eugenics movement is called "War Against the Weak." I highly recommend it. Also, a great website on the history of the ID/MR/DD field is the Disability History Museum at:
http://www.disabilitymuseum.org
yeah, I got both of those already, and a whole lot more. And my interview with David Ferleger explained about the Lynchburg Colony.
He was the lawyer for the Pennhurst Case, here is his website, http://www.ferleger.com/pennhurst.htm
I have a lot of sources on Pennhurst, Fernald and just eugenics in general, so if anyone wants some links to read up on stuff like that, you can e-mail me at tfielder_nhd@yahoo.com
Nasty picture!
if anyone could give me a map of this place please do.. cuz i wanna know where the fuck im going next time, it's kinda hard in the dark to know where shit is when you havent been there much..coltin_grundy@yahoo.com
I'm in California, not even close! I enjoy looking at the pictures and reading Lynne's posts. And of course, thanks for the pics Motts. :)
Motts is my Hero.... :)
Twisted as this may sound, this is probably my all-time favorite picture from this site. I have a prinout of it somewhere...........
A printout, I mean. :]

You are an amazing photographer, Motts! I love photography, I hope to be half as good as you.
i read somewhere, that before they made seperate buildings for boys, and girls, girls WERE getting knocked up. fyi.
there was molestation and other sexual stuff going on every night!
The terrifying part about these is how terrifyingly close I live... my mom worked in Pennhurst in the 80's, she can tell anyone anything if they want to know the facts. smsmalser@hotmail.com
Does anyone know who owns it now? I tried looking for the owner, but I couldn't find anything.

Question: What is the last letter of the word "hospital"?
