Did it work?
It couldn't.Theres obviously no electricity in this place.
This is my first time posting to anything ever. I accidentally came across this site and have fallen in love with it. I have a BA in Historic Preservation...that fan is worth alot of money today. People pay up to 500.00 for fans like that.
"It couldn't.Theres obviously no electricity in this place."- Orchid Lunar

Actually orchid, there is. as for the fan, i probably doesnt, due to corrosion and whatnot.
Ahhhh. The good old days, when a fan could lop a finger right off.
Im very suprised that the fan still stands there .. I will never take any thing from pennhurst nor shall any one else.
I certainly hope that this fan was not easily accessed by the patients in this hospital. Anyone could easily stick their hand/finger(s) into this fan.
An ex boyfriend of mine took a turntable from one building. Were they called record players back then?...anyways. We plugged it in and sparks flew which killed it. I guess it was the bad energy of the place- didn't want to pass it on through our ears and junk.
Maybe it was the bad energy that develops when someone takes something that isn't theirs. I dunno, just a funny hunch.
if take it home and oil it it might work you never know.
Oh, wow! They just don't make fans like that anymore! I wonder what the make and model of it is?

Nice shot... :)
It's a Hunter, and yes it is worth a lot of money.
It appears to be from the late 30s, maybe early 40s. They're not worth a fortune, but they aren't bad either.
my grandparents had a fan like this.to bad it is left to rust and decay.should be preserved
yes , it did work there was electricity there. people should understand that in earlier times institutions operated all the same. it wasn't meant to be cruel, it was to deal with people that were very difficult, scared, aggressive. a new approach was adopted in recent years.
I collect old fans like this. This would be cool to have.
Anyone notice the thing that looks like an ink well? Just curious to know if that's what it is...
WOW That fan is old in deed! OSHA would have a hay day if they came across one of these old fans in the work place and I would bet Child services would scream if one of these fans was in the house hold. todays fans are so caged in to prevent people from puting there fingers in them I can only wonder what the hospital staff was thinking when they put this in the hospital?
Oh, NO, watch out for the "Fan Club"!! Oops, missing a blade, probably not worth $1000, too bad.
I work in a PA state Institution for the Mentally Retarded and we still have fans like that. We put net covers over them so the Individuals can't get hurt.
is it just me, or does that thing next to the fan, sort of hanging off the table, sort of look like a bra????
