Soot Stairwell

Soot Stairwell

This stairwell, which seems to have been covered in soot from a fire, has been written on by the fingers of many past visitors.

Or past visitors that never made it out...........
Freaky.
i can just imagine how many little feet walked down those steps
ive been there before and it's not really that scary inside and most recently the whole place was basically emptied out after awhile none of those things are really there anymore
You guys think way too hard.....All that writing on the wall was done by my friends and I...where it says "Pennhurst Mission"...we posed for a picture together...everything that is in this picture is from us...

My mother is a nurse, and worked with an agency that was brought in to help Pennhurst before it was a lost cause for the patients..some of what you are saying is true, but a lot of it is 'ghost stories'...

I have tons of pictures and experiences I can tell you about first hand, and from my mom...so if you're interested...you can contact me on AIM.

How strange, until I got to this photo, I was thinking about the lack of graffiti.
It's not really graffiti because they aren't screwing any thing up permantly they are taking a layer of dust off. Just like writing wash me on the back of a car. It's not destroying anything except a layer of dust.
Yeah this is just writing in the soot, but Pennhurst has probably been the most vandalized location I've watched progress over time. I don't like it in my photos so I guess the place looks more pristine here than it really does.
I see girls!
Long hair, short skirts!
Ah, the only "good" vandalism. Anything beyond signing your name in some dust should be punished severely. Seriously, forget security. We should organize our own groups. Patrol as many of these places as possible and let the decent people be while making sure the kids who go in to smash and spray paint everything decide it would be prudent to never enter the building again. You know, play with their minds the way they toy with the memories of people who probably had four times the humanity they ever will.
AWESOME shot Motts!
wierd how the soot is randomly covering some bricks and not others
Reminds me of Silent Hill. Actually, ALL of the pictures remind me of Silent Hill.
This one feels more like it though....the pure gibberings of insane loneliness people must have felt in here, some couldn't speak so they screamed through carvings.
Others couldn't write so they screamed until they become whispering echoes.
And others who couldn't do both screamed inside themselves so powerfully that their essence remains.
But that's just me.
did u write on it too?
lost souls
i feel bad about the people had 2 go through
Reminds me of the walls at Belchertown, I've signed my name there.
:)
i really love this motts, i cant even tell if you took this is black and white or not.
