picture paints a thousand words.
Such a strange contrast... a patient bed in a basement against the stone walls.....
Great picture!
I HATE BASEMENTS
Twug,
Basements arent bad, its whats in them that is.....
I still hate them. And I don't like attics either.
I'm scared...
a great picture... has a lot to say...
not to take away from it -- it could be that someone moved the bed into the basement for the "effect" (not who took this photo) but others... there are so many urban explorers in and out of this site...
Twug I must agree. I've visited pennhurst twice now and have only gone into one attic and that's in I think Vinc or Union the one with the halloween costumes. Does anyone have a photo of the attic stairs with a boarded over top and then there is like a square hole at the top to go into the attic. I saw it on my first visit and I refused to go up there.
true ghost hunters will go and do anything without being scared stop crying people
I'm not sure how it was at Pennhurst, but a lot of state run institutions actually did place patients' beds in the basements, due to a lack of rooms because of overcrowding.

True ghost hunters will NOT go to places without permission from the owners as it is trespassing - I would love to go to Pennhurst to do an investigation - I used to work there - but as "true ghost hunters" we respect the law. Photograph all the asbestos while you are trespassing on Commonwealth of Pennsylvania owned property.
this does not look like it was comfotable
WHOA, that's creepy! kinda weird that there was just a random bed in the basement huh?
i want to go so bad. but i'm so scared to
These pics rock! But that's not all what the bed looked like. There were also bars around it (some very short, some not as short). There were chains to cuff the paitient to the bed with aswell. This place makes me think of hell.
have you ever photgraphed this place with snow cover?
It was snowing on the day of this shoot :-)
what the hell is a bed doing in the basement
There were also many violent patients kept at Pennhurst. They would keep them in the basement as to prevent them from assaulting the other patients/staff.
i would love to go visit some day we have a place here where i live that is almost like this place it would be neat for them to come check it out the name is pressmans home in rogersville tn look it up
I worked all over this place in the 80s as a pipe insulator the tunnels where hot lots of steam. I recall the people and staff also. we had nick names for some. You had to watch your back all the time it was sad and nerve full. I read , some would like to visit some day WHY?
I had to force myself every day to go to work. THE PLACE WAS LIKE NO OTHER. THIS PLACE LIVES WITH ME EVERY DAY
There was a guy , there who tore a cast iron radator from the wall and through it out the window that was bared, then jumped 2nd floor.
he was then left with broken legs, he would stuff has cast with sh-t
all day.
that looks like a harsh bed dont you think so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg what the heck,y wuld there be a bed in the basement i mean litterly y? a littly kid forced to sleep there
I think if you contact the owners they are going to allow ghost hunting at pennhurst after their halloween haunt is over in november!! something to check into not sure of details or requirements to qualify!
This is the basement of Limerick Hall.
That is eXtremly creepy!
Agree once again wit GaGaJones!
Looks like Medieval torture chamber!
And this will be the forth comment in a row that ends with an exclamation point!
Mr X , I am also a tradesman..... In this area. I can't even fathom the images, surroundings and situations you must of had been forced to tolerate and deal with mentally in this god forsaken place. I have been to pennhurst after it closed. This place makes your guts churn when it's unoccupied. Nothing good happened here.
wow this building is made out of stone. check back in 80 years and i bet you this building will still be standing
