I've heard of these before - what are they used for?
They were used for sterilizing medical equipment by high steam pressure.
Awesome photo and find! Gosh that thing is huge, however the one at my lab is just about the same size. What a door!! I wonder how that room smelled, our autoclave room stinks horrible!
Newer autoclaves that we now have are bigger but still basically operated the same There are also gas
ethylene oxcide ones
There are even BIGGER ones. A local news story about 6 months ago here concerned a nurse who was burned to death when she was inside a WALK-IN autoclave and it somehow activated...
I've seen three walk-in autoclaves or near-sized ones so far, the third isn't posted yet!

OMFG!!! that thing is so creepy! it looks like an incinerator from a concentration camp. *shivers* ugh
oook, does it hurt
What is it with you and chairs, and sinks and Autoclav????
I always thought The Autoclaves would be a great band name.
The way these look always terrifies me, even though I know they are innocent in intent.
These things look almost too new. The shine is still on that autoclave!
