is that a light inside on the ground floor right window?
No, it's a reflection of a street lamp, but the lights were on in the back of this administration building.
My mom was committed to that hospital in 1953. She lost everything: her home, her family, her identity. The only records I ever obtained were of her very first 'treatment' (not sure where) which consisted of 13 electric shock treatments in 14 days. I found her 40 years later, still 'intact' carrying only her integrity- and somehow she had managed to maintain it. She had been released after only the first 7 years of commitment, and lived in and out of foster homes the rest of the time, and her life. Everyone I met who had any contact with her thought she was a wonderful woman. I think that the New York system took very good care of here, generally speaking. She died at 74 with little notice, in Buffalo, New York where she spent her entire life. Am working on a manuscript and your site came up as the first source of history. Thanks for you work.
Can you imagine pulling up to this forboding ediface and bringing a loved one and saying, you'll be happier here darling. What a frightfully horrid thought. It happened almost every day of week.
where is this and is it still standing??
..me again , this is another building similaire to danvers state (RIP) which has currently been torn down , im now on a mission to find as many hospitals and assylums just like it , condemned , old , and beautiful.
THIS IS SO INTERESTING I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE HISTORY OF THIS HOSPITAL AND OTHERS
This would look so beautiful with a light early winter snow fall drifting down over it.
I went to college at Buffalo State College in the early 90's. Buff State is directly adjacent to the "psych center" Our fraternity used the psych center grounds to conduct a lot of their initiation rituals. A very spooky place ndeed.
would make a beautiful university
I love this building

really wish i lived in america, to see these lovley places, me and my brothers do the same sort of thing as motts but here in the uk, but theres nothing really left here now. these old buildings should be saved, all the history is being knocked down eveywhere,
Wow, this place burned the same night that a "MONSTER" hog tied and set afire my friend's two small children in a horrific murder. On April 10,2010 Jeff Wesheit bound my friend's son, Caleb, 5, and poured gasoline on him and set him on fire in HIS OWN bed, and left him to die and his 8 year old sister, Alyssa. This happened at 3:45 am, in Evansville, Indiana. I am SOOOOOO devestated. So is the family. I am spreading this story in hopes that this will NEVER happen again. CPS ( Child Protection Services) was called only 2 weeks before this, and NOTHING was done, no follow up call, nothing. I am putting this on here so those precious babies will NEVER be forgotten. PLEASE Spread the word. Thank you, so much! Dawn
I live just down the street from this facility and can asure you that it is stilll standing and is being renovated. It is closed off to the public.

Question: What is the first letter of the word "abandoned?"
