Dancing Pavillion

Dancing Pavillion

This gazebo was once lit up at night and held dances and other social events during the summer nights.

I bet it looked pretty super at night all lit up.
this must of been outstanding in its heyday.
what anna said
HEY LYNNE WILL YOU DANCE WITH ME?
Wallflower
I WANT TO BE THERE ALONE AND DANCE.....AND I AM NOT KIDDING
Rumor has it that FDR used to chill up there.
that is an amazing shot! i can just imagine how pretty it was back in its day!
With this pic its like you close your eyes and you can hear the people and hear the music from the band
I dunno, everyone...

I can't "see" a bunch of patients dancing and living it up here. What I see in my minds eye are a bunch of half-alive patients being wheeled out to this pavillion by a well-meaning staff member, and then spending the evening staring blankly off into the distance as the band plays on.

To me this is the most profound and saddest picture I've seen on this site.
I agree with subcoolman. But, this picture is very nice. It kind of looks like it over looks a valley or canyon off to the left... Maybe not, though.
how sad... for some odd reason, this picture just makes me feel so sad...
to think that this place was used for dancing and having a good time and now so empty it;s kind of depressing
Almost a park bandstand.
Just because a person has a mental illness doesn't mean s/he is no longer human! People with mental illness enjoy parties and social activities just as much as any other group of people--perhaps more, because they often feel and are left out. Music, dance, fun, social interaction--all are very therapeutic.
This is a great place to dance under the stars!
