Did the patients do the sewing in this room?
Yes it was part of occupational therapy. The men probably worked outside or in the shops.
LOVE THIS PIC!!!!
I think that it says a lot about your character that you didn't remove items (I am only assuming) from this hospital. Some of the things in your photos would be worth a pretty penny.
And for the record, I am not sure that I would have had your character. Not for the monitory value. But because I love these sorts of items for their history. For instance, the removable type plates... I would have taken these with me and without issue, since they will surely be destroyed either through building collapse or otherwise. I wouldn't have thought twice about taking them to preserve such a treasure for myself.
The sewing machine, being in the foreground like that, kind of looks like a predator waiting patiently for something weak and edible to show up so it can pounce. :)
That sewing machine could be worth a couple of bucks. I wonder how heavy it is.
i know somebody who would kill for that old sewing machine!
I believe this is the Westinghouse Gyro Sewamatic-a-tron-amator.

Frankly, many a sewing machine collector are pretty greedy....ah, never mind.
A solitary predator, the sewing machine stalks it's prey...
Almost looks like one I used to use at a factory back in 1970.
THEY GAVE PATIENTS SEWING MACHINES??!!??!
Why not, Vocational therapy has been in use for decades.
And sewing is very relaxing, so why not?
Now fencing.............
Nice old Singer machine, looks like it might have been mounted in a cabinet once upon a time.
In my experience, the most dangerous thing to happen with a sewing machine is running the needle through your own finger. I used to work at a sheltered workshop where the best jobs were the ones in the sewing department. We had a government contract to make various supplies for the military and the jobs paid well above minimum wage. The employees all had either mental illnesses or developmental disabilities.
i want it ... the machine.
Here we go again....Ok, I've always been afraid of the needle thing. Even if the metal guard around it is supposed to make that near impossible... ?
They must have worn really big clothes ;) haha
Ah, yet another vintage, analog machine of the past! I love the old fashioned, "Luddite" ways! : )
