reminds me of phycological movies
reminds me of a hallway in the computer game American Mc Gee's Alice...
really nice use of light on this one. it's beautiful
Reminds me of the hallway in The Shining.
Actually, this hallway doesnt look half bad, if it werent for that stuff on the floor, it might look like its still in use.
very nice lighting in this picture.
That is a great hallway. I love that floor its wonderfull.
Nice floor
Hey uhh...maybe you can start listing what state these places are in =D
Nah, that'd take away the fun of it all ;-)
Motts, another gorgeous find.
Come play with us, Danny....
Riverside State Hospital was a clever name to make for this place... [edit] is maybe a bit more accurate. Either way, the place is beautiful and a photographers dream. Everyone should be able to get in for photography perposes.
in responce to AndyO,

of course motts knows the name to the location, but for th web its better to call the good locations by faux names, so if you know the name keep it hush hush. as for letting anyone in, its a good thing they don't, serously if 100 photographers went into that place, its a very good chance one of them would die by falling through the floors.
AndyO, that may be your opinion, but I ask that they not be named on this site, which is stated underneath every "submit" button.
Iron fist of deletion. I love it. And I think the hallway would be quite lovely if it weren't so dang narrow. It makes me feel like the Iron FIst of Claustrophobia is closing around my throat.
crazy dreams can deffinatly involve this hallway
Hey , you can play chess on the floor :)
Motts-I know this is a dumb question, and I know most of the asylums have their own generators, but by any chance have you come across an asylum that has no generato and is powered by the state?
Yep most psychiatric facilities were built in rural settings, so there were no towns or cities to draw power from, so they needed power plants. These usually hooked into the local power grid eventually, although some still burn coal or oil. I can't think of any state hospital that didn't have it's own power plant. although I suspect the newer facilites use the local power grid which I don't really frequent because they are still in use!
The PHF where I work is on the local power grid; but it does have a generator backup in case the power goes down.
this si so colorful and nice...like new
Awesome!! Love the tiles!
Very very nice photo!
I have an old generator but its the stupidest invention in the whole world it needs 120 volts to turn over the engine and start it up.... And it does not have a cord to pull or a crank to start it with... I use it as a door stop
Well, that's convenient, Tom.
She stepped through the doorway, not knowing what awaited on the other side. What met her gaze was nothing more than amazing...
It reminds me of my grandmothers hallway o-0
This is very "Alice in Wonderland". It also sort of reminds me of a museum, with all the intricate molding and ceiling details.
Motts I know that this is a stupid question but I was told that some of these buildings are now being used for a prison is that true? I dont know if you are even allowed to answer this.
No, it is being renovated but not complete yet.
Nice shot reminds me of the shining for some reason.
yeah, it remind me of Alice in Wonderland aswell, maybe because of the soft light and colors.
I guess it also has that dim contrasts like in the hotels from "the Shining".
Did they ever decide what to do with the property once the fire gutted part of the Kirk? I have not found any recently updated info on it... it's like everything just stopped once it burned.

Maybe it was re-abandoned?
It's still sitting there, a burned out shell of what it once was... I believe whatever is left inside will be salvaged soon.
Too bad!! ...Maybe at least the admin areas at the front of the Kirkbride would be good for something...as a reminder (like Avalon Bay Danvers) that ...Something Was Here.
