Yes, I've heard an entire floor give way in an old hospital once; all the narrow floorboards cracking sounded like fireworks inside the place.

I know the gallery you're speaking of Motts (Riverside) and that must have been terrifying when it cut loose. Did you see the carnage after it was over?

Luckily it was far enough away not to be terrifying, just startling. I actually never figured out which floor gave way - the place can be pretty maze-like and floors collapse every so often, changing the lay of the land.
