This pic is great!
very nice. perfect exposure
great serie !!!!!
it looks like somebody got a running start and jumped out the window
Perfect shot. I doubt mine would have came out like that.
I live near Glenn Dale, the grounds and buildings were in the last of couple years sold to the Park and Planning commission for the local area. Don't know if they plan on tearing everything down or not.
I was there yesterday. creeeppyyyy. I'm gonna bring a camera next time. I hadn't heard of the place.
Looks like the execution room in Flensburg Prison.
BEWARE CRYBABY BRIDGE
comment to whoever made this page, ive seen all these places that you picture cept the underground tunnels, i was wondering if u had mpcsi of thsoe cuz that place seems to always be full of water...like the hole pciture is the entrance i believe and it looks like theres water all in it, but if u have tunnle pictures , post em
Yeah the tunnels and basements were pretty flooded and not very photogenic, so I don't have any photos down there except for the children's morgue.
THE BLUE MILE!
Great Photos, i went in numerous times in the late 80's and its fucking creepy- i made day and night visits....ticks galore and scary for sure. that rhymed....
Very nice photo indeed...what kind of rig did you shoot it with? I too went in numerous times in the eighties and it was always a little spooky and lots of fun at the ole Tuberculosus Hospital. Baharba
MANNN ITS NICE BUT SCARY HAVE U EVER SEEN GOHST OR HEARD ANY NOISE SEND BAC

TO JO3FER@AOL.COM
why does it look so scarrY?
This is the hall that Brandon B saw that damn man sitting on that bucket in! lol then he disapeared! wooooooooness...yeah
Well whatever the case that is one creepy area.
Has anyone found the underground tunnels????
I used to go to Glenn Dale Hospital frequently in the late 80's. I now work next to this location and I drive through the complex everyday. The police use this facility to train their K9s all the time. back when I used to go there the security would never think about going in there. Now that the police use it so frequently I'm sure they know the floor plan by now. As far as excaping from them in the tunnels you can forget it , they are flooded. I miss the old days. One night the police surrounded the main building with at least 35 cop cars from many jurisdictions of law. We only realized we may have a problem once they called in a helicopter. This no bullshit, they wwere for real this night . We got away thanks to the tunnels, and waited on top of the childrens hospital in hte elevator motor rooms. Today it's alot more risky and I know the police use night vision. Beware.
the underground tunel's can be found in that huge valley next to..i think it's a hospital..the best part is the guard can't see you from out there..
i'm sorry this might be un-clear..i meant..A hospital like the letter hospital...
Does anyone know what the function of those wooden ballet barre looking things mounted to all the walls by the windows were....just like what it shown on the right side wall in this picture? I noticed them all over the adult building, and neither myself or my friend could figure it out.
My guess is that they were used if someone needed help standing or getting down the hallway...they can be seen in nursing homes and even hospitals and my other guess is that they were on both sides of the hall...not just the right. So basically, they are a "shoulder to lean on" of sorts.
All right, Bri! :-)

Yes, they are handrails for people to lean on or use for support while walking in case their balance is off or they have other difficulties ambulating independently.
:0) Yippee! I got it right!

See you guys...not all blondes are dumb (but you already knew that since you are in the company of some pretty good looking ones who have brains to back up those looks!)! ;0)
They also act as bumpers so those damn "Ambulance Drivers" (a derogatory term for paramedics) don't mar the walls with their stretchers.
wut were the tunnels like
Wut were they like before they flooded
wut were they used for
and were did they take u
...anyone who knows tell me please and i want to know the truth no anmyhting un true
^ mmk.
one of my faves, Motts. TY !
Hi,
Just look up Washington Post articles from the mid eighties! I remember somebody's mom mentioning we shouldn't go there any more, and low and behold we read the article about various Govt agencies training for urban/highrise guerilla tactics there. And then I guess we stopped.
If you enlarged the view out of the window to print size and edited out any signs of the room, that too would be a beautiful photo... oh, wait, I gotta go! My oatmeal's burning!
I grew up in the area and used to go a lot around 1995. I never knew the history of until now (thanks to the www!). Everything looked so differnt, I though I was in the wrong place because of the widening of the rodes and the new houses in the area. There is a website that tells what the state is planning on doing with land. A hearing was held in May.
i was wondering......can any of u guys give me tips on how to get in there legaly......if any of u guys could help i would really apreciate it
I'm very interested in photography and the paranormal. My interests right now are black and white photos or old abandoned places, such as this. I only recently found out about this place and it seems like a great place to check out. You say there are lots of cops and is very dangerous. Can you please tell me how you were able to get these photos and not get caught? Is there anyone I can talk to? Please email me at sr_mldn@yahoo.com.

If anyone knows any other abandoned or "spooky" or "haunted" places please feel free to email me at the adress above.

Damn...this is awesome. I moved to an old white farmhouse and this place was just through the woods a bit and just below the hill leading to the front entrance I think. I don't know if the old house is still there but our landlord's name was Gaylord something or other lol.And our house was 2 story and very old...even before the hospital was built. I used to go and explore and play army in that place approx. 20-22 years ago and the basement at the time wasn't flooded. It held a nurses station and rubber rooms. I remember lots of strange things and encounters and I had a dream about this place and have been thinking about it since so today I began looking for it. It was used as a training ground for paramilitary when I lived there. And I found documents saying it also help German POW's at one time during WWII. The place has a draw on me that to this day I still can't figure out. I WILL NEVER forget my experiences there. Like once I walked into the library and there was a rocking chair rocking by the window by itslef in the middle of broad daylight. You can actually feel the suffering coming from the basement like some tangible emanation, the halls were so very dark and the history in that place is surreal. If anyone wishes to talk to me you can e-mail me at odawamc@aol.com. I have stories and witnesses. I took my mom once and she would never go back again so I used to have to sneak up there alot by myself as a boy of only 8-9 yrs old. After seeing the pictures alot of memories came flooding back.
yea me and 2 other friends went up there on august 19th i belive it was. it was after a redskins pre season game. anyways. we were drunk as shit and were dumb enought to park right at the mouth of the community and walk up the hill to the adult ward. well we "sneak" all the way up to the front door of the adult ward and i guess the cops were changing shifts and we saw some headlights so the 2 of us bolted to the big pine or w/e tree and my other friend was frozen in his tracks at the door so i ran back to get him. we hear someone coming so i laid down by a bush and he just found a spot near me. yes the cops use night vision because thats how we found my other friend. well he took us back to the car searched us and all that stuff. got our id's and told us that if we ever came back again that he would fuck us in the ass! no joke at all! the only reason he let us go i think was because we were all fire fighters and he was just gettin off his shift. it was like 2 or 3 in the mornin. well anyways he chewed us out for a good 30 to 40 mins before he let us go. well that was my experiance. if u want to know more about it or about glenn dale u can call me. [edit: please don't post phone #'s]. ive been up there many times and only caught once.
Hi I live in Glenn Dale and it really is sad to watch the hospital everyday on my way to school. I believe so that many people died here and it really makes me have terrible dreams about it. So what I am trying to say is that there is bad story to this place like every place.
me and some of my closest friends were up trhere recently . we parked right in front of the adult building and went in. no cops or anything. we were all drunk and loud w/ flashlights. i have no idea how we made it out w/o any problems
i live right by it and i have friends that talk about going there all the time
My parents were patients at Glenn
Dale Hospital in the late 1940's. They have some great stories about living there and about them all being somewhat labrats at the time, due to no real knowledge of TB. Infact, my parents met at Glenn Dale while patients, and my Godparents, she my mothers roommate and he my daddys' roommate also met there and then married when they were released. At the time, it wasn't the scary looking place as all the pic's nowadays show. Daddy does remember seeing as many as 5 or 6 "deadwagons" as he calls them lined up around back in the mornings sometimes. Thank God scientists and Doctors have worked so hard since then to learn more and treat disease as they do nowadays!! TB treatment was unbelieveable at that time . Somethings you wouldn't believe.
Wow, would love to hear any of those stories!
So stupid sounding; but, STRANGE bad feelings surface when I drive by there. Bad vibes.
There is an entire board on glen dale if you all wanna read some more stories about the place.
I too have been fascinated by this place ever since I went there. The thing that I am most interested in is the tunnels. Some of the stories I heard about the place were about tunnels connecting alot of the main buildings. I have seen some of em, but that was like 10 years ago. How flooded are the basement levels, ankle/knee/waist/chest high? If anyone knows.

Oh check out google sat maps of the place...very neat.
I am 44. I grew up in Glenn Dale. When I was first born, we lived close to the hospital, at the USDA ste - next door. While the hospital was still open, my church childrens choir (including me) sang Christmas carols for the residents - this was after it became a hospital for the indigent. Some of them were scary to look at. Years later when I was a teenager, one of my high school classmates lived in one of the apartments. Her mom was a nurse there. I remember a party my classmate threw there and the only reason I was allowed to go was because her mom was a nurse. Mom wasn't there - but there was a lot of herb and sex - 1979. I had sex with my b/f once up at the water tower, during the day, in the tall grass. That was just up the hill from the bus stop on 450. I was so nervous because I thought someone would see us. Here's a coincidence - as an adult, I went to work in a tuberculosis clinic in the county Health Dept in 1981. Stayed there for five years. God, I feel old.
Thanks for telling us about your sex life.

How much better our lives will be for knowing THAT..... =8-s
i know it is such a intreresting piece of knowledge she/ or he should colaborate with tom tom.
cool as shit
great photo , looks like right out of a scary movie
Yeah, the police definately use night vision because I got caught by a cop who jumped out of a pine tree. I would have ran but was with a girl so I couldn't. He let us go, though.
i really want to go here, but i don't want to get arrested
me and my friends went there and we was like 30 deep and we still was scared as SHIT!!!!!!!!!
How many cops do you guys think are there?
Me and a group of friends want to go there and check it out but i dont really feel like getting arrested! So if Someone can fill me in on the spots that the cops mostly patrol that would be great.
Most people who get "caught" are caught because they're taking photos at night (with flash).
Seems like the daytime is a better time to go, just drive by once and check for cars, then park far away and walk up from 193 through the woods along the trail. That'll bring you to the backside. Once you're in the basement you'll need a flashlight though. Also, this place has loose asbestos, so don't touch anything -- disturbing asbestos fibers is generally a bad idea. The police do patrol regularly there, so don't arouse suspicion to make them patrol more (i.e., don't be stupid). If you do get caught, don't run. Don't admit that you're tresspassing either. "We've seen this place as we were walking by, just wanted to take some pictures. It's pretty spooky!"
that is a awesome picture i think it look cooler in B&W but still very awesome.
Just from the photo it feels like something you can't see is watching you.

It's impossible to get these shots anymore. There's security everywhere.
with all the people that go in, why can't people look with out destroyen anything and everything. excellent pics.
omg Motts, I love your pictures so much! they are amazing! Glenn Dale is my favorite abandoned hospital, so I enjoyed these pictures very much. I must say this might be my favorite picture of Glenn Dale. It does look like someone ran and jumped out the window. What's kinda weird is the first thing I saw in my mind when I looked at this picture was a girl about 12 yrs old (that was a patient there) that ran and jumped out the window and almost died! It was really weird. But it was only in my head.
I really badly want to go to Glenn Dale but i don't think I will ever get the chance. Who has been there before? How cool is it? I bet it's really cool.
Well, keep up the great work Motts!
i went here not too long ago and in this building this exact hallway after upon the feeling of something grabbing at my pants leg. me and my friends shined the flashlights all the way down to this window and saw reflections of the lights, as you can see theres no glass for the reflection. this is the first time publicly i told anyone.. it brings back terrible memories it was so incredible yet amazing but the damn cops got to us before we could get out of the childrens building... message me on aim if youd like to hear the personal experience to talk shit to me no one will experience or believe me. But i am open to all comments astonishingeh is my aim feel free to shout at me,,,,
cool! mind if i add u to my buddy list on aim and chitty chat with you? lol. my aim is lostvoice17. alex s plz add me so we can talk and any1 else can aim me, just dont bug me on aim. =P

ok just wanted to clerify there is no security there.. I spent 4 nights at this hospital just a few months ago to inspect what could be a "haunted" location and never once saw a security gaurd making rounds and we took pics at night with flashs and ran a few times screaming never anything

Yhu Have Totally Awesome Photography Skills...
Looks like something from the front cover of a horror film.
My Favorite one !!!!! love it!
yes. nice photo... great end shot to the picture gallery.
I grew up in Bowie, and used to go there when I was a brownie and girl scout to sing xmas carols, on that stage. At that time it was a facility used to house D.C. wards of the court who had incapacitating illnesses/diseases. As a teenager, I volunteered there with a couple of friends. It was not a good place to be. Those people, both adults and children, were not treated well. It was heartbreaking and inhumane. Two friends and I ended up going to the local paper and telling them about some of the horrid practices we witnessed. The hospital was closed not long after.
Thank you for these pictures. While I would not encourage anyone to go again it is nice to have such artistic and beautiful pictures of a historic place. Every year I drive by this hospital to go to a friend's house and I beg my mom to take us in the daylight so I can see the hospital. I'm absolutely in love with it. That's how I found these pictures. I've never been inside and never will go inside unless it becomes legal so thank you for providing these pictures so I know a little bit of whats inside.
