Welcome to the Quad

Welcome to the Quad

A very grand entrance to 42. You can see the odd angle from the X-shape connect to 41 on the left, and 43 on the right.

I am so curious about the layout of the Kings Park, Edgewood and the other related facilities. It is just so many buildings and I would love to see an aerial photo or survey to help me understand the arrangement. Do you know where I could find something like that???
I hope to expand this site to include some more historical information of that sort, but the book "The Farm Colonies", by Leo Polaski is all about how the LI asylums began, operated, and closed, and has a very nice aerial shot of KPPC.
I went in this building last nite.. ahhh soo scarry!!
If we knew the coordinants of the building, I bet an aerial view can be seen with Google Earth.
GOOGLE EARTH IS AWESOME! YOU CAN SEE KPPC FROM JUST ABOUT ANY ANGLE.
if you have Google Earth run a search for "Kings Pk., NY
11754" it will bring you right to the campus. if you don't have google Earth download it for free it is a great tool.
ya, google earth rules, took me awhile to find danvers
Thank you, Art!!
Im telllin u people i was there friiday night and that statue on the top of da buildin was not there o nd im tellin u dat those ghost storys is madd chill. . . . . .
Could you repeat that please. In "grown up" english"?
I can't even comprehend that sentence and I'm only 20! English classes anyone, anyone?
Here, I think I can translate:
My good friends, I tell you truly that I myself was present at this complex on the prior Friday eve. The statue that Mr. Motts has showcased in this photograph was not present at the time of my visit! Truly, the stories regarding apparitions present at this building are incredible, if they may be believed.

Ok, I kinda channeled the ghost of an 1800's person there, but you get the drift...
LoL! Thank you so much for your 1800's persons's translation! I actually understand that! LoL! :0)
yo wats good me and my boys came here tonight this shit was mad freaky we saw lights and shit in the windows, no joke check this shit out, ill never forget this shit lata dont shit yourself richie lol
that shit was sick man..wicked sick..the tree in the front by the entrance..the one thats like half cut down and just stubbed if you look at it from an angle it looks like jesus pinned to the cross..man that made me go nuts

Dammit now I wanna see the sat. images..

Anyway you could download them and put them up Motts?
I have a few aerials of this and other places I might be adding to the site overview at some point.
i wen in here a few months ago... [Directions to site edited out per Opacity policy - admin] ..its pretty cool
its so sad how many people are mentally retarded or sick
we went there last night it was so scary. we kept hearing people on quads though... and we ran into people over at 93 they said there were cops there so we ran across the street to this one... this building is pretty sick though... we actually got inside no problem.
id like to know how u got into the main building with the huge fence around it...because my friend through me through a window that we broke like 10 feet up but then the door inside was cemented shut i couldn't get in...the only part we really got into was the basement with those big pipes
Entry information is not discussed on this website, please read the note just above the comment box.

Sketch, Thank you for that translation that was so funny
This photo is amazing I am speechless
so peaceful and beautiful on the outside, so eerie on the inside. that goes to show.... never judge a book by its cover.
Hey Motts is there Alarms in this building if their are how are they working with no power?
no there isnt any alarms
Keep up the good work Mister Motts! Wow, I love the quad... almost as beautiful as 93 itself...
What a welcome. I can't imagine how a patient would have felt being taken to this place. If they didn't have issues before, this could give them some. Your ability to capture the mood is awe inspiring. Thanks again.
the middle is the dining room... buliding 41 is to the left.43 to the right
This "quad" was called group 4
Very Cool!!
There were/are patients committed to mental health facilities against their will, but probably not nearly as many as people think when they believe all the horror stories they've heard. In the past, some of the people committed to a hospital did not need to be there--they were sent by relatives, spouses, neighbors to "get rid" of them or because they were eccentric. Today, a person must be certified by a psychologist or psychiatrist (or both) as being an "imminent danger to self or others" and there must be no less restrictive option available. Thus today, even if someone does not believe he/she should be in the hospital, it is almost certain that the hospital IS the appropriate place. Often, not understanding that treatment is needed is one of the symptoms of the person's mental illness. Most of the unwilling patients come to realize this after treatment ameliorates their condition. Other people know that they are unable to manage in the community, and know that they need the hospital. A patient's condition is reviewed after no more than 30 days in the hospital to see if continued hospitalization is needed. If it is determined that it is needed, the commitment period is for a maximum of 2 years, at which time it must be reviewed again. A patient does not have to stay the full time if their doctor decides inpatient care is no longer required. There are also a few patients who like the attention and routine of the hospital, and will exaggerate their symptoms so the doctor will be persuaded to commit them. I had one patient, who when the psychiatrist thought she just needed a few days in our community-based crisis residential unit for evaluation, stood up and leaned over the doctor's desk and said ,"Well, if I said I'm going to kill myself, then can I go?" In another comment I mentioned people who preferred the hospital because it was a better place to live than their community home. Other reasons I've seen for patients who want to go to the hospital are being faced with criminal charges (usually a patient can't pull this off because in most cases, it wasn't the person's illness that led to the criminal act) and people who have co-existing substance abuse problems and owe money to their dealer. So, while there certainly were more abuses in the past, we can't extrapolate and assume none of the patients needed to be there, or that it was the hospital that made them "go crazy."
pretty scary when you did'nt have to be there. And where are they now ...
Does anyone know where I can find a scetch or drawing of kings park hospital? I want to have someone draw a picture of it .????
Hey Motts this is a nice place to live.... okay maybe this one is better than the rest
i went there last night, it was maaaaaaad cool bro, we heard someone shatter glass tho and we were out!
There were many older patients *and young, but they were misdiagnosed or committed against their will and many of the old patients lived their entire lives in there. Women who suffered from depression after childbirth there lived and died there, it is sad. No wonder why so many houses are haunted in my town!
Answer to first question,I am still here ! ,almost 60 years later! What DME
wrote is correct..This place should have been off limits for all pre -teenagers
unless they were really mental, then most of the time they were in strait jackets or restrait sheets, this is the truth!! My young childs eyes saw
plenty!! most of it not good. Every week the head nurse had me wash the whole floor of the Dayroom and this room was large.. When my mother who was sick for quite sometime with polio, saw the pimples and blisters on my knees she complained to the supervisor at Group 4,Action was taken and I no longer washed the floors on my hands and knees. Plus I got a pass to go home first for the day, and then for the weekends. Visits were every Wednesday and Sunday. KPSH also had a store and a movie house ,to go there you had better be good.. Will write again ..GBM
My grandma went to this hospital (others too) She really did need the help, it is just too bad the meds and knowledge today was not there back then. I do know she got electric shock therapy in at least some of her hospitalizations. Today it would have baan a lot better. Pretty much everyone in my family is bipolar. I
sorry, my comment accidentally sent,. I am very stable on my meds, my kids are harder since their bodies change so much as children. I look at these pictures wondering what my grammie went thru in these places
My mom used to work in this building!!!I!!!!...I've been trying to find information on her but no records are left that I can find. If anyone knows where I can get some records of the place?
Hi.the last comment was me...i'm just asking how to also get in this building?
the author of the farm colonys sugar coats everything and tries to justify what all of the asylums on long island did to their patients and as someone directly affected by their actions i know its safe to say what they did is in no way justifiable. wrong. wrong. wrong, no more and no less
