Perhaps it is the natural light coming in from all the windows on the right? I don't know but I love the photo.
On the other hand, people do really stupid things, so I could see someone disturbing the asbestos into the air and inhaling it for long periods of time...

The patients were wheeled there in their beds to spend some time in the sunlight. When we bought some old property with lots of old buildings to explore, I found a bundle of letters written to a young woman who was ill with TB and staying there. She was in there for a much longer period of time than most patients were allowed to stay, her husband was a State Rep who must have had some clout. Most patients were only allowed to stay for 6 months I believe. She was in there for about two years. She eventually died, leaving behind her little son. The letters were heartbreaking.
