Sunlight

I have been to Glenn Dale. Unfortunately my friend got scared on the second floor so we never made it past there. These shot are beautiful. Being in these places, you can just sense the life that once occupied these halls! I love it.
The view shown here still appears beautiful despite its ruined state. The large windows do not drown out the eerie effect of the hall. I'd love to be here on a bright moonlit night...seeing the shadows of the window panes upon the floor, just as the sunlight is doing here.
You can see the road. o.o; Dude. I saw that building from my parents car! It's prettier outside. But that's my opinion.
I went to Glen Dale about 2 years ago & it look's completely diff. now. It look's worse and it's scary as shit im my opinion. haha
There is something about this picture. It draws me in as if the building was still in use today, although the hallway is clearly in a ruined state.

Perhaps it is the natural light coming in from all the windows on the right? I don't know but I love the photo.
How safe is it to be there during the day? People can see you from the road and cops can see you cant they?
I've been to Glendale and while it's really fucking great, it has aspestos (cancer causing agent in old insulation) and TB bacteria. Just a warning.
Just thought I would say that you can get TB in a grocery store by walking by someone who has it.
As far as asbestos, this place is contaminated out the waa-zoo. The TB bacteria on the other hand, I highly doubt. once TB was a more controllable disease and there was no longer a need for TB sanatoriums like Glenndale, these places were used as general hospitals and the like. Glenndale was used as a hospice for the chronically ill for many years after it's life as a TB sanatorium.
Also adding onto to Maypost asbestos will not instantly create cancer. In fact it takes many hours of breathing it in straight. To breathe it in straight you need to disturb it into the air which I find would be very stupid. So don't be scared to die just..cautious
Eddie, I agree it's not an instant thing, but the problem (from what I can tell) isn't from a single exposure, it's from repeated exposures over time. I know Motts wears masks sometimes when he's in these places, and they look creepy as hell! See: http://www.opacity.us/...33.htm#comment_18281 for more...
On the other hand, people do really stupid things, so I could see someone disturbing the asbestos into the air and inhaling it for long periods of time...
True.....very true....psh stupid people
Back in high school (late 90's), a group of my friends went to explore this place at 3 in the morning. They parked far and told me they had to hike through some woods to avoid being caught by the police patrolling the area. They told me some crazy shit, like that there were bloody scratches on the walls, and that they found things like "help me'' written on the walls of some of the rooms. One good friend of mine told me there were a ton of old patient records left behind as well. Eventually they got bored and went outside to smoke some weed, but apparently they saw some lights (like the cherry of a cigarette, one guy said) and got scared and ran. I've never had the chance to step foot into or around "The Haunted Hospital", as they called it, but I wonder if anything they told me is true?
Good photo, Motts. Thanks again for :saving" history in all your pictures.
What an inviting porch! It appeals to one to "come and rest for awhile".
JUST TO TELL YOU GUYS WHO ARE WORRIED ABOUT GETTING TB FROM THEDE PLACES, YOU CANT' AS LONG AS THE PLACE HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS, YOU WILL NOT GET TB, AND I LIVE IN GLENN DALE AND THIS PLACE HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN FOR OVER 10 YEARS THERE IS NO WAY THAT ANY DISEASE CAN LIVE FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS UNLESS IT ACTUALLY HAS A WARM PLACE LIKE A HUMAN BODY TO STAY IN BUT YOU WOULD NOT GET TB FROM VISITING ,NOW YOU CAN GET OTHER THIKNGS FROM MOLD AND THE DUST, BUT NOTHING THAT SERIOUS
The maximum life expectancy of TB outside a host is 8 months provided it is in spit and in a cool, dark place. On clothing, it lasts about 45 days.
this is a nice picture i never been around or in abandoned places like this myself but i know of a tb sanatorium in roanoke alabame
How did you get pictures of this place during the day
we went all around Glenn Dale with our team of 11 people and when we were leaving from the little park we werent even on the property and some dick headed cops pulled up but we made it out of there with only 2 people with $500. fines and when the court date came to the cops never showed up
Great shot. Almost serene!
Nice pic. I would LOVE to go to Glenn Dale but I bet I will never get the chance. =[
You might want to stay the hell out of there, The MD State Police and Counties use the place at several times each year for forcable entry and terrorism training. If they see you, the bastards will arrest you. If not forget the TB, I was there right after it closed and there was no danger. The place was only used administratively for a while. The patients had long gone.
