I'm writing a book about glenn dale does anyone have any experiences they would like to specfically tell me about? my boyfirend and his friends have told me f theirs but im always up for more.
I don't believe in ghosts but i do have quite an experience to tell about glenndale involving an awesome girlfriend and first kisses, etc ;-) We did hear some laughing off in the woods behind it toward electric ave but i'm guessing one of the bachelors in the houses on that street was having quite a rockin party. but you can include my spawning romance in your book if you like :-)
Who is the person by the door (getting ready to go in?). I recently was told about this place by my son (appears the kids look at Glenn Dale as a Haunted Place to encounter). So I started doing internet searches to see what I can find. Again the question I'm sure you have been asked quite a bit (How did you manage to get on the grounds in the daylight without being caught?) Do you work for or affiliated with Maryland National Capitol Park / Planning? or the Development Firm that is handling the Glenn Dale Golf Course (turning into Residential Homes?) Just curious since the rumors are very high in police survelience and sorts.
I was at Glenndale just this afternoon. i spent 4 hours exploring teh grounds, I had not visited the place in at least 6 years and boy have things changed. I was amazed by the presence security made. But with a (using Mott's own words)"little stregtic planning" my wife and I had a fairly easy time gaining entry to all 4 main building and the staff dormitory bldgs. in addition to the adult and children's hospitals there are 2 smaller ward buildings connected by a spectacular breezeway, a mansion I assume the president of the hosptal lived in, and many scattered smaller buildings that loked like housing for staff who ranked a little higher than a run of the mill nurse. I had to wear my running shoes and I cannot stress enought how dangerous this place is if you don't have experience in urban exploration. this place was a deathtrap with unsturdy stairwells, wholes in the floor, bums, and COPS(not security guards). I grew up 5 miles from the place and I have over 10 years experence with teh compound, so take it from me, KEEP YOUR KID AWAY FROM THERE FOR HIS OWN SAKE and enjoy Mott's pictures instead of going there because the risks are not worth the $2000 fine and jail you might get if they get you.

Motts - I took about 160 pictures today so E-mail me if you want to see them

***side note - I saw a cop car every 15 min nomatter where I was on the 200+ acre gorunds today
i posted some of the pics online here

I tend to check out this site from time to time to see what is new with the old hospital. For at least 10 years this hospital has drawn my attention and it totally makes me upset that there is talk of tearing down the buildings, not preserving them as museum or having some type of county funded ghost tours. What I do not understand is like what sandy above wrote, how did you get the pictures? Do you work for MCPPC? I know back in my younger years and we went to the sight, cops would be on our tale within a matter of minutes, what makes you so special to get these pics? How did you not get caught. And because you have all this information, are you going to try to have the county preserve this historical ground or just let it get bull-doze when they put in the old folks home or the golf course. My last question, how come we can talk to you via email or chat? How will our questions be answered? Your site is not interactive. I am very curious being a PG county native for 26 years and a teenage who did the same thing about 10 years ago.
cindy - I will try my best to answer your questions

I do not work for a state agency nor anyone affiliated with Glendale. As to how I acquired these photographs is of my own business and something I do not make public. I am not special in any way, believe me.

I don't know what information you are referring to, but I do not own the property, nor do I have any say in what is to be done with the hospital since I am not a state official, contractor, or even a Maryland resident. I am opposed to almost all demolition and redevelopment of these places on my website, but I do not have the resources to petition or file lawsuits against every developer trying to demolish a historic site.

The purpose of this website is to show people the beauty and history behind the walls of these incredible buildings that have been abandoned and neglected by society, as well as to showcase my own photography and experiences inside - NOT for helping people trespass onto private property.

This site is interactive since you are communicating with the world by posting your comment and others can reply, or perhaps I am not understanding you. Anyone can contact me via e-mail, admin at opacity.us
It does always amaze me how you get into these places though, especially as I'm assuming you're carrying heavy photographic equipment too. It's one thing to slip into an abandoned hospital in the dead of night with a digital cam in your pocket but another to access a well-guarded building on an active campus - in broad daylight and with lights, tripods, lenses etc hanging about your person! I'd almost be more worried about being nabbed by a guard, or worse, a cop, than most of the things the building itelf could throw at me once inside...

And your stance on not publicising these places is absolutely the right one. I'm sure Byberry provides a lot of enjoyment to those who hang out there but it would be a tragedy to see *that* fate befall Pennhurst, for instance. Plus surely half the thrill of UE is doing the research and finding places yourself.
I went to Glen Dale Hospital, several weeks ago. This was the first time I went there & to any other abandoned bulding. I've fallen in love with the buildings! OMG. I didn't get to see this buliding because we went towards where the police station was. Laters. =P
To begin, I'm very satisfied with the choice of shooting these photos in B&W. It gives the place a more "ghostly" and mysterious appearance. An effect that color photography can not display. GREAT JOB on this awesome portfolio!
I live in Maryland and I have just recently found Glen Dale, Does anyone know if you are still allowed to go into the buildings???
I was told by someone who has recently visited GlenDale-- that if you go to the police trailer, on a night when no one else is there (not Halloween) and ask for permission to enter the grounds-- that a guard may take you around to show you the buildings. Any idea if that is true?? Thanx a bunch!!
Yeah if you ask the police officer(s) there. They'll either say "yes" or "no."

[Directions edited out as per site policy]

The buildings are far to dangerous to go inside from what I heard. The bulidings are to old & you could break one of the floors. And land break one of your bones. Laters.
Drove by there this week while lost - drove onto the grounds but did not leave the car. Spooky as hell in the daylight. I plan to stop there this weekend and ask the cops if I can go back on the grounds w/ my kids
Me and my friends have explored every floor of the main and children hospitals of glen dale. Unfortunately on our last trip we were caught by the cops [information removed as per site policy] The hospital is kinda fun the first time you go in but then the novelty wares off and by the end of our trips up there it was just boring. but i still recomend everyone goes up there once though.
anyone know anything about the old Mt Wilson Hospital (another branch of the Maryland Tuberculosis Hospital, located in the Pikeville/Garrison area) I worked on the grounds after it closed and before it was turned into a retirement home, but I never saw the inside or learned much about its history.
I was there Last night
All trespassers will be prosecuted
Dan, are you security on the grounds or just blowing smoke our way?
i can see spirits and when i went in i've seen 2 ghost figres next to me and a child ghost beside a door in the hallways (inside) (behinde the door)
the basement is cold and flooded and me and 2 other people went to the top and it had a felling like some one is watching u by the door
Great picture! dvo please contact me in regards
to glendale hospital. you mighjt be interested
in pics i have taken there. the spirits were
most interested in me being there.including the
ghost dogs! email i1jimbob@yahoo.com
i had one i went ther yesterday on the side closest to the water tower and when me and my friends got up to the building we were looking on the top floor and we say 2 eyes looking at us, which had a color of light blue then we looked again and it was 4 eyes as if 2 people where on the top window on the right hand corner looking at you
My brother and his friends went there one time. His friend took a magazine from there and took it to his house. The next night it was raining and his friend was coming home from work. His windsheild wipers stopped working and then his headlights which were new went out. Then when he got home his headlights came on. Also when they were at they hospital leaving they all could feel someone watching them leaving. Then they were going to enter through the front door and they got close to it and it slammed shut right in front of them.
I was just there last Sat. night about 1:30 in the morning we we're talking about it and decided to take a road trip... i can't explain it it was about 30 someting outside and felt like it was about 90 in the main hallways with no breeze what so ever, but we go outside for not even 5 minutes and we have windburn for 2 days from the outside... it's weird in there you feel like somethings watching you from some of the rooms but not just from the rooms but in the corners of the room, a lot of stuff happened that night and we heard a lot that will probly Never be explained... but very cool experience.... BY THE WAY if you plan on going WATCH OUT tons of cops go by there at night, ha i cant even tell you how many time we hid behind the big pine trees.
I went there a year ago and still want to go up there again but cant rember how to get there and i hear there are cops every where is this true ? kelly your the lastest to visit gleen dale what was y0ur experience.
we went to glendale and it lives up too the stories
Yea david that shit was tight!! i cant wait to go again
I went there last friday at 4:00 in the afternoon and was atacked by a person in one of the rooms. I have lost my wallet and had a knife through my arm. I strongly recomend not going there becasue next time i go, ile hava GUN.
My friends had told me about Glenn Dale many times. They said they heard ghosts and saw things, but I didn't believe them. They took me their last week on Saturday night. We had flashlights, cameras, cellphones, and masks for our faces. We started in the children's hospital building. The minute we walked into the main building, something crashed down the open elevator shaft. Something big and loud. We broke off into two groups, one taking each long hallway. We started walking around and I kept trying to take some pictures and all of a sudden my camera died, even though I had charged it that day. I had taken only one picture. I went to go put it in my back pocket and it was grabbed from my hand and flew halfway down the hallway to the right. My friend tried to call our other friends but his cell phone was dead. I tried mine, it was dead, my other friend's phone was dead as well. We ran out and waited in the side parking lot. We all finally joined up again. Our phones were all working. The other group didn't experience anything like we did so they wanted to go to the adult building across the street. They all heard that the morgue was in the lower level and wanted to check it out.
When we got in, we passed a check in desk, and an old light started swaying and then crashed down. We blamed it on wind, even though no one else felt a breeze and went down to the lower levels. On level was a huge open area. We went down a little hallway. We came across two big metal doors, we tried to open them to see if they lead to anything but they were locked tight. We walked by them and were in another big open room full of graffiti (lots of gang markings too). We could hear doors slamming above us and all around us and decided to turn back. When we did, we noticed the two big doors were open. Both doors open wide. We looked in and the two rooms were big metal rooms with racks...big enough to hold bodies (??) We ran out of the room to the stairs. When we reached the stairs everyone's phone started ringing at once and our flashlights started to flicker. The phones all rang one time and then stopped and didn't show a missed call, but we all heard them. We ran back up to the floor level and got out of the building.
Once we were out it got worse. Two cop cars were outside and they spotted us with night vision coming out of the adult building. The cops said they'd been checking out both buildings (Children's and Adults') because motion sensors had been set off. We told them everything that happened and they laughed and said there were no ghosts, and that neither of them had ever seen anything while they patrol this area for trespassers. We were charged with misdemenors for trespassing. Had some fines to pay.
I still have my broken camera and have since changed the ring tone on my phone.

Just got back from a 6 hour exploration of Glenndale. Nothing weird happened(unless you count bumping into a bunch of Mexicans who were there for the same reasons we were). I grew up in Bowie and have been to GDH more times than I could possibly count(at least 100) and nothing "supernatural" has ever happened to me. But that's just me. :-)
I would def. like to get ppl together that know what theyre doing, citronelladaze@hotmail.com, contact me, i live near crownsville mental hospital as well.
I really want to find out how to contact whoever is in charge of this place cause I'd like to do a legal photoshoot there anyone know who or how to contact them? email me at chellefire@comcast.net
I can't believe that the bldgs are still there. I grew up in Greenbelt MD, and as teen i would do hours of exploring of the main hospitals with my best friends when we skipped school. I'm 34 now and I explored there when I was in my late teens. The morgue was always the creepiest place to visit in there. Still gives me goosebumps to this day. It was fairy easy to slip into if u parked in one of the residential neighborhoods and walked up thru the back paths!
i was just there the nite b4 last and i got arrested.. its not a mental hospital.. its an abandond hospital for TB.. and it got closed for aspestos*. so im in trouble for trespassing and parking illeagally in the park a mile down the road.
ive been to glenn dale with a bunch of freinds numerous times. and i have a couple different stories wich are very weird. the first time i ever went there was around 2 am in the fall and it was very dark there was no moon out. i was with my girlfreind and 2 freinds. it was about 65 degrees outside so it was roughly warm, we are walking up to the main childrens building and as soon as we get around 50 feet of the building the air got very cold, and we could actually take a step back, feel warm air, then take a step forward and feel a silent cold coming from the building. that night we walked around the childrens hospital and the mansion and thought we heard things, but i think it was because we were paranoid. so we left.... then we came back about a week later with the same 4 people plus another four. one of which was a man who had been to glenndale in the 80s when it was first shut down. the advice he gave us before we convinced him to come was this "When you go to the basement make shure your flashlights are off" i was confused and asked why, he said"you dont want whoever is down there to know your comming" hearing this i was pretty shook, so i gathered a larger group of freinds to make it less scary. anyway we were in the childrens hospital and we found a small deck which i believe stretched out across the front door facing the woods...all of a sudden 4 of the 8 hear a girl screaming help coming from the woods. it sounded distant. i myself heard a scream 3 times, the others say they heard it 4 times, anyway, we couldnt explain it so we kept touring the place and eventually covered the entire childrens sector. as soon as we exited 3 of the people we were with said they heard somthing yell "HEY" from the roof of the hospital including my girlfreind. we then walked towards the smokestack, and we were walking past the 2 small buildings on the right and we all heard a very loud crashing noise come from the first one, it sounded like the roof was caving in. i dont know what to make of that building but we avoided it. we went to the smokestack and walked back to our cars thru the feild when we stumbled apon a manhole covered in grass which we tried to open to get to the underground tunnels, but it wouldnt budge, then the veteran of the hospital said he could see a red dot coming from the childrens hospital, he pointed it out to us and we were watching this dot for about 10 seconds until it dissappeared, that freaked us out so we decided to get the hell out of there and upon exiting we stumbled apon a graveyard,,,scarry. that night we actually drove my freinds car through the grass and up to the childrens hospital,,,how much dumber could we get... the third time we went we went to the main hospital and we got to the 2nd basement looking for the morgues, and it was completly filled with water up to my freinds calfs. he turned around because he said hed lose his shoes in the mudd. nothing weird happedned that night. then resently i went with another group of freinds. we parked across the street in the neighborhood and proceeded again to the child hospital once we left there me and another freind hear a weird laugh sounding like it came from the little courtyard of the child sector, we ignored it. we proceded to the smokestack. right when we got close to the stack all of us heard a little girl make a moaning noise,,,there was no wind,, nothing out there but us...we were definantly spooked....wait it gets better... we walk around the smoke stack and we saw a light coming fromt the other side of the building, the first thing i think is,,,COPS, we run towards the car full speed and we could see the spotlight coming out from the building and towards us,,,we run all the way till we can see our cars and low and behold, i see a cop car parked behind my car. we all gather underneath one of the huge pinetrees and watch the cop, who apparently we find out was watching us with his night vision binoculars. we hid out for about a half hour and 2 times we heard a walkie talkie on the other side of our tree. we could also see the searchlights searching everywhere across the feild except our little nitch. then a park police rolls up and catches us hiding. so after all we got to go to court and do community service and pay a 600 dollar fine...great huh, we totally could have gotten away if our cars were not parked visibly from the road...goodluck and park far.
i hear this place is the most unsafe and vandalized abandoned hospitals in maryland. its sad to see that hoodlums would do such a thing to a wonderful place. i've known about glenn dale for quite sometime now. never had the chance to go because most of the equipment is gone or broken. i'd love to see an abandoned hospital with stuff still intact. i know im asking for a lot because most hoodlums tag or break stuff in these amazing places. same with henryton. can't we just explore these places without hurting them?
i went there wit my friends and it scared the hell out of me! it was raining and cold, never go back again. plus we wrer skipping skool.
OMG! there's another patty! guess I'll have to use an alias. hey patty, wish I was with you guys, but I'm in the midwest.
Been there about 7 times. Last time I went alone. I have some decent pictures and in the 7 times I only saw Police once and had three strange occurances.

One, on the right side of the children's building, someone snickered. It cam from above, it sounded very evil, and nothing else happened until we got in. When in the building, we heard the loudest crash, like someone kicking an old tin gas can above us. Then nothing for the rest of the time.

On another occasion, when invading the larger building, my friend and I amde it to the top where the gear system ran a "dumb elevator" system. We heard from several floors below and deep grunt.

I am not saying any of these wasn't a real person. But when you are there, there is an opression. The feeling that not enoguh good things happened there to offset the bad things. It feels as if you are being watched, and I am not talking about police.
This looks a little like the back of my middle school, which is weird.
Hell, it looks like the FRONT of my middle school!

But that just makes my middle school scary.
Looking for any information on the physical condition of the children's building. I haven't been to Glenn Dale in over a year, and want to know if it's even a managable trip these days, security and all. I'm bringing some friends, and want things to go as smoothly as possible.
The property is owned by MNCPPC and policed by REAL police who have K-9, night vision and years of experience in where we try and hide. Yes an actual cop lives on the property and its patrolled by other ones throughout the day and night because its DANGEROUS, the place is falling apart holes in the floors, unsturdy walls, dust rust and yes it was closed due to asbestos. Not to mention a hefty trespassing fine or possibility of being arrested.
I have never visited Glenn Dale but I have been told, first hand, about some of the things that went on in there. My Grandparents met there in the 30's when they were both patients in on the TB ward. I haven't asked too much about what went on there, but some of the things my Grandfather has told me are some crazy, but true, stories.
what did your grandfather tell you meg? now i'm curious
Well, out of respect I guess, I don't want to give too much detail and all. But, he did tell me that back then, they removed one lung as a common treatment of TB. Well, the doctors believed they needed to fill that space in the patient's chest back up. So they would fill the chest with ping-pong balls...which ultimately lead to severe infection and gangrene in the patient's chest cavity. It only made that patient die faster as a result. The surgery my Grandfather had to remove his lung in that hospital was filmed and he actually died on the table, fortunately they were able to revive him. I think it kinda shows the contrast between how far medicine hadn't come then, and how far it had given that they were about to bring him back.
Correction...It should have read "given that they were ABLE to bring him back" not about to bring him back. sorry
wow, thats insane.
Good map of area and building info:
http://gdhospital.trip...ures/buildingmap.gif
I've lived just a few miles from this place for almost my entire life, but I've never gone inside. It makes me sad that this architecturely beautiful place has gone to waste. I know the asbestos and lead paint would cost way too much money to take care of and that's why, but it's still sad. I don't think I'd ever want to tour this place. It gives me the creeps just driving by. I was 8 or 10 years old and my mom was looking for daffodils for a flower arrangement and saw some up by one of the buildings and made me get out and pick them for her. I have never been more scared in my life. That place just has an eerie sense about it.
I am starting a ghost hunting group and am looking for 5 individuals with equipment and experience ....I will start interviews asap....we will not SNEAK into buildings I have connections through md and va government where I can get a signed document allowing us to explore for up to 8 hours at 1 time ....Pleas if intrested email me at delorean316@hotmail.com....
My grandmother cheated death there in the mid forties. She got T.B and was there for years. My dad and his father were not allowed near her. My grandmother would wave to them from the solarium on the roof; that was as close as they were allowed to get. My grandmother was released and lived to be eighty seven.
Been along time since I thought about glenndale hospital. Went there a bunch of times (before there were police stationed there...last visit was about 10 years ago). The place was amazing. Definately a decaying and dangerous place and that was 10 years ago.
My friends and I pretty much explored every inch of that place...with the exception of the tunnnels. Supposedly there are tunnels connecting all the buildings. Unfortunately some have been sealed with metal bars. And the ones you can gain acces to are filled with 2-3 feet of water streching along an underground tunnel alot farther than your flashlight or you can see.
I have been to some creepy places before and glenndale hospital is definately one of the craziest.

Oh whole point I really posted was to give props to the pics...very cool brought back alot of memories :)

WOW! i had all but forgotten about the old glen dale hospital. it was good to see it again. but now i live in albert lea minnesota. born and raised in landover, md i'll never forget it. i still talk about that place 10 years later. thanks for the trip down memory lane.
this is some freaky shit! we went with a group of 8 yesturday 11-03-06 im not sure what building we went in but that was some freaky shit!!!
back in the early 90's there was a guard trailer in the front of the main building. guarded 24/7 is that trailer still there?
trroy - yes the guard trailer is still there and they still frequently patrol the area.
kts262- thanks for the update. since i live in minnesota now the only way i can visit is by this web site and reading the posted comments.
My bf and I live directly across the street from the first building(if ur comin onto Glenn Dale from 450) We have been in there. Very scary if u grew up on horror movies. We see people getting arrested and chased by the police ALL THE TIME...they sit in the new subdivision across the street, so they can see if anyone crosses the field. They watch the place like hawks. We often see ALOT of police activity up there...Dogs, lights all kindsa stuff. It's hard to go in and NOT get caught, but if u get in, it is a fun. creepy place
I drove by glen dale thanksgiving night. Everything is all still there [Admin.: Sorry - too much information.]
The dogs are what scare me more though, lol.
Freedom you should post any of the crazy police stories if you see anything good hehe...would be cool to hear about ;)
Like I said in my original post, I am most interested in the tunnels. Most of the smaller buildings are decaying badly and kinda boring. The bigger buildings are much taller and deeper underground and more interesting.
I wonder since security has been increased nowadays, if the inside of the buildings have been updated too (ie-metal gated bars over entrances and such).

Sorry forgot 2 questions...

1. How did opacity or whoever took these pics get access to the place?

2. How much does it cost if you happened to get arrested for tresspassing in PG County...?

Thank you that is all,

Jeez above post was a joke didn't mean to kill the discussion :)

We rode by that hospital it is so scary looking .But it is very interesting. It is like the hospital draws you to it. But I will never go in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard from a good friend (who's mom lives pretty close to GDH), a friend and him went on the grounds around x-mas holidays. The side awy from the copper tailer. He told me the place is still very much accessible, if your careful :)

My granddmother, Gladys Nell Prebble, died at Glen Dale in 1938 from TB. She left 9 under aged children in Charles County, Maryland with a father, who could not cope and signed the children over to Washington, DC. The oldest was my mother, Mary, age 16. She was very lucky and her boyfriend, Joe asked her to marry him. I am Judith and was born 2 years later. Mary was a wonderful mother and from the stories she told me, her mother, Gladys Nell was a loving mother. The oldest son, age 15 ran away and joined the service after hoboing around the country. The five younger children were placed in an orphanage in Washington, DC. The very youngest, a girl and a boy, were adopted and thought to be lost to my mother forever. After my mother married, over the years she allowed her 2 brothers and 2 sisters to come and live with her. This was a life with outside plumbing and lots of country cooking. They were never sorry. Can you believe the two adoptive members of the family found us and there are many happy events with all 9 children. The father, who left them, was an alcholic and became a hobo. He was forgiven and a part of the children's life as an older man. My grandmother, Gladys Nell, was a registered nurse educated in Ware, Mass. She was working as a nurse in Washington, DC, when she met my grandfather, who had been wounded. He was in the Coast Guard and in WW 1. I will never forget my family story. Glen Dale was a sad place and my mother told me how her mother had to leave the children and had the hope she would be healed. Also, I want to say, my grandmother caught TB, by going to work as a nurse during the depression. My grandfather could not find work. If you want to e-mail me....write to Pezjude@cs.com and put Glen Dale Gladys Nell on subject line. History is my main reason for writing this. Judith
I was recently nabbed for trespassing at GDH and have a court date set for March. Should I find an attorney or expect to just pay a fine and do some community service.??
a group of friends and I went there last night. We stepped into I think what was Nurse's quarters, and later found a window entry into the adult-hospital. My two friends stepped in and explored a tid bit and came back out. We plan to go back there next week. Just wondering if you guys could give any advice on hiding spots, access points, places to avoid (danger), etc. We were blatantly out in the open, surprised nobody caught us, so if you guys know a good backway onto the grounds that would help as well. Is there any map online? Any architectural drawings? Thanks. I am not superstitious, and do not believe in the supernatural. I think this is the ultimate test to make me a believer, my prime drive in doing this.

Hey Frankie
my email is decembergirl1208@yahoo.com
Been inside I'll give you some info
we went the 4th and by the time we walk their from ike two miles of woods and stickers we walked around the children's hospital building a spot light started up the hill we ran in side and the car just circled around shineing the light at the building then left so we just walked around for about an half an hour then left went their a dozon of time in the past year and seen one car and we took night vision so fuck the cops their not going to find use
The cops aren't going to fine use of what?
haha! I Just recently went to glendale, There were no cops no nothing. We kept looking at the trailer from the windows. Nothing happened, I went there with a group of friends and If there were cops they would have definatly caught us. Its a very nice place though, Everything has been pretty much demolished and stolen.
grew up in the city of mt.rainier md.bunker hill rd.the exercist rd.and have traveled the streets of glendale rd and lottsford rd.cry baby bridge and have heard babys cry from a near by creek and stood atop the bridge and the cry would stop.and also would drive with lights off to see horse and buggy spirits.this is where cry baby bridge got its name .becauce a vehicle driving aroun this curve and hit this horse and buggy which a baby was a passenger in the buggy and landed in the creek.and was never found.and that years have past since i have been back.late 70sand early 80s.as a teen my self.now in my 40s.its ok to explore just be careful and safe.because i just learned my teen age kids and there friends are now courious and may also see or hear the same things that i have heard.lets kreeeep ittt alive.
I found some teeth in there but they didnt last long.
I lived about a 1/2 mile from the hospital (on Bell Station Rd.) until I was 10 yrs. old. This was from 1967 - 77. I remember a fully functioning hospital. I vividly remember at Christmas the hospital would put up a big star on the hill facing 450. It was exciting to see it lite up at night. Boring but true!
Just went to Glendale Hospital tonight and it was a somewhat good experience up until the police were after us. I am the leader of a ghost hunting group in Virginia and we underwent an expedition to the hospital late in the PM. We investigated pretty much every building from the first one on top of the hill (In front of the new neighborhood) all the way to the the smokestacks. Served to be an interesting experience until, again, the cops were all over us.

First we heard dogs, police dogs in the distance. For anyone reading this, when you hear dogs that means leave. Next three to four cop cars came onto the property surrounding the building we were by, the smokestack building. We evaded them and made it to the second layer of pine trees. We stayed there for about 45 minutes. While we were trying to wait out the cops, a police helicopter came flying above the property. The police were searching the wrong side of the property because we now had run to the otherside closest to the neighborhood where we first entered. We were about to enter the neighborhood and drive away, but our cars were surrounded by cops. Eventually the cops drove away and set the trap. When we eventually made it back to our cars, the police were all over us before we could leave the neighborhood.

Based on our experience with the cops, they have K-9 units, nightvision goggles (which we saw and they can see you from 200 yards away. The police officer said they saw us when we first stepped onto the property), and motion sensors. We received our trespassing ticket/arrest whatever and will probably have to do some community service and pay a hefty fine. The police said they catch about 20-30 people a weekend so I would recommend not going there unless you want to get caught. They said the facilities are closed due to abestos.

They caught 7 people about an hour before they caught us.

The buildings had a lot of warm and cold spots. I took some interesting still picture and we have everything on camcorder. We still have to check the EVP, and we're hoping to get something on that. The smokestacks are still filled with human ash. Overall, a good experience minus the police. We all do not look forward to going to court in Maryland when we live in Virginia, and paying from what I've been reading about a $600 dollar fine.
Very interesting story my friend. I have my own paranormal group to. It is called, NFPS. Two weeks ago a went to famous haunted fort called, Old Fort Niagria. Pretty cool place. I spent the night there and I caught a door slaming by itself. And I heard foot steps above me in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep. I decided to walk up there and there was no one there. So I ruled it being a haunted place. I like to play it by the book like the worlds famous ghost hunters TAPS. Well that is my little story.
i want to go so badly but i dont know if i should go at night or during day
omg. i went there with my cousins. it was soo freaking scary.
I WANNA GO SO BAD I AM GOIN IN 2 WEEKS YEA LOL
I've been in glen dale many times, but I want to know about the theatre and the morgue. Also, the chimney that you see wasn't for burning bodies...it was for laundry, or so I was told.

If you have any information that you want to share, my e-mail address is ErinTheHappyEmo88@yahoo.com. Please subject the e-mail as "Glen Dale." Thanks.
i drove by glen dale last night to see if the buildings were still there and they are as creepy as ever. i often went to glen dale from '87-'89 and I'm sad to say i'm responsible for some of the destruction but at sixteen it was fun to smash windows! I heard all the rumors of it being an insane asylum, 'halloween' type stories of someone going crazy and murdering everyone, weird 'x-files' type disease outbreaks, and the tb story. but honestly, in the state that the hospital was left in, it was very easy to believe the more outrageous stories. We would find wheelchairs, boxes of medical gloves, hypodermic needles, stethoscopes, etc.. The older kids claimed to have found straitjackets but I never saw one. anyway, it was left as if something really fucked up happened, and at the time it was seized US property and not county property and was a federal offence if you were caught and not a county offence, contributing more to my 'x-files' type conspiracy. I never saw anything 'supernatural' but there was always creepy things happening. we would often find satanic graffit and mutilated cats and dogs. we would find blood stains in the morgues, and i found a bloody, fleshy crutch once but i always attributed them to satanic or wannabe satanic pranksters. I'm so glad this site is here. the visits to Glen dale are imprinted in my memories but seeing these pictures is really something else.

i was chased thru the woods along electric avenue by dogs but i saw 'em get out of these black ford broncos so i don't think they were ghost dogs
I went there last night...we had to walk thru train tracks to get there...i didnt know you could drive to get there. It was creepy because it was at night but we didnt see any paranormal activity. However the night before a friend of mine went and said there was a dead falcon where the satanic writings were. We didnt get too far into the building because we were creeped out but we plan on going again during the daytime. We heard what sounded like a 4wheeler riding around outside the grounds. It is definitely an awesome place to explore.
Hello having lived in md for 40 years i remember the old hospital as a kid my mom would drive by it on the way to shelby beach! My dad played golf there to i remember it well as he told me what it was used for... Never heard of a lot of what i read here i know it just as the old hospital thats close.. Now in 2007 i find it a bit funny of all the ghost stories ect ect true or not as a historical place it should be saved restored and use for something.. Inever did go and wander around the place as . Did drive by many times and now with the web great to see its still around..
Myself and a friend of mine attempted to go in there around 2 in the morning and was taking photos of the place, and were by the flagpole out front when I took the last photo and notice two faces staring back at us in the flash, Don't know if it was real what we were seeing but I do know the Police showed up without their lights on and we then took off into the woods and ran into a old swingset made with thick old rusted chains and what looked like a playground....VERY creepy and we finally made it out of there. On out way out we noticed 2 people standing there staring back at us...Can't prove it but seen it....
i have been to glendale hospital once. i had a friend with me that got pretty freaked out and we ended up not going past the little run down parking lot looking thingin front of one of the buildings i wanna go back soooooo bad!
Been to Glendale a couple of times luckly never got cought by the "rent a cops" really cool place to go. When i went i heard the usally screaming coming from who knows where , but one thing that really kinda creeped me out was we where leaving the adult building it was me and about 3 other people we where walking in a line going through the hall ways i was the last one in the line and i sware to god i felt someone or somthing put there hand on the back of my head i just took a deep breath and pretended that it didnt happened and left
three of my friends headed up there tonight.
i wasn't able to go becuase i had a babysitting job
=[

but the 3 boys said forget it after they freeked out seeing the building.
they said they also saw lights on and cops.
so they siad they are deciding to go in the daytime.

do cops come during the daytime also??
or just at night time to cetch people?
anyone know?

email me LilBlondie5490@aol.com
This might be a stupid question but can u still get t.b. if you dont wear a mask in there???
yes, you can. its also a risk of asbestos exposure.
I live in NC and i recently took a trip up to Glenn Dale MD. We drove by the hospital and couldn't resist going on the grounds. we didn't go inside but the grounds are considerably more eerie during daylight (when we drove in) Im suprised we didnt get caught driving in a restricted area in a white suburban in the middle of the day. the pictures i got are incredible and now i cant stop reading about it.
email me if you have any information about it (i.e. hauntings, wierd stuff, etc.)

demonseed124@aol.com
btw: we never went inside a building, we just drove around on the grounds. my great uncle Larry Henegar died on those grounds so thats prolly why i was so drawn to it.
juss went tonite......didnt get caught.... bats started flying at us in the long hallway n was attracked to our flashlights n we ran out
Hey everybody,

For those you that are interested in Glendale Hospital, I received some anonamous footage with a story about a girl named Sarah. I am not sure of the validity of the story, however I am a videographer / FIlmaker and I am in the process of making a short film with most of the footage. If you want to see the trailer cut and paste this link...

Folks, really, I grew up there. It was a fully functioning TB hospital. You cannot get TB from breathing in the air. That is just plain silly. I'm sure; however, that you could get hurt trapsing around in abandon buildings, so be careful if you choose to go visit the place. I have many, many wonderful memories and will gladly share about them if anyone is interest.

For instance the star on the hill wasn't erect each Christmas it was always there, just not lit until the Christmas season. My father helped to build it. I was always proud when it was lit; I thought it was so beautiful!
Just a heads up. Glenn Dale buildings are patrolled by Park Police and they do make arrests for trespassing on a weekly basis. The place is extremely dangerous from debris on the floors and hanging from the ceilings and there are holes that one can trip and fall. Most dangerous are the health hazards of airborne toxins from asbestos dust.
my dad is a prince goregeous county police. he got called to go da hosptial. so him nd 4 other po-po's wnet there. they were going to use 1 flash light until it ran out nad da same thing for da other 3 . so they arrive nd go in da main hosptial first then the adult the chldren the both of the morgues. so mi dad nd friends are walking around nd ther in the mourge my dad opens one of the coffins nd than god it was empty or he would of peed his pants!! [[ha,ha,ha]] the there in the adult hosptial nd all the flashlights are blwon so they through 1 of the light bulbs down the hall and u know when u step on glass it makes a crunching noise well they heard that nd nobody was there. now thats freaky.

e-mail me erin.silvers@yahoo.com

i want to know experinces nd stories bout that place im going to write a book if i get enough e-mails
i love this hosptial .once i found out about the hospital was in love with it doing as much reaerch bout glenn dale as i could. i sware i might be 13 but i want to get like medical records nd paients names and stuff im so in love with this hosptial my mom has to drag me away from tha computer when im reserching the GLENN DALE HOSPTIAL!!!
Before you go on, please read this. This is a warning to anyone who wants to visit Glenn Dale. I went up there last night with a friend to see the place. We had no intention of going inside, although I have to admit that because I was so drawn to the place, I really wanted to see the interior. So we drove past the main building toward Electric Avenue to see if we could get a better view of the other buildings (children's ward? Not sure). It was hard to see much anyway, since it was dark. Before we turned around, we decided to stop in the parking lot on Electric Ave. and relieve ourselves. Not even a minute later, a cop car showed up and we're playing 20 questions with the officer. He had suspicion that we were trying to sneak into the building (which we were not) and ended up fining us $50 each for being in the park/parking lot after hours. He also told us that we were lucky he didn't catch us near the buildings. If he had, he said, he would have taken us to jail and it would have gone down as a criminal offense, not to mention we would be paying thousands in fines. These guys do NOT mess around. This area is heavily patrolled. There is a trailer on the left across from the main building, which is used by cops to watch the premisis. I saw three police cruisers parked outside. I also saw where they have motion sensors set up. If you decide to go, be careful. If I got slapped with a fine for stopping 2 minutes to take a leak, imagine what will happen if you actually get caught inside the hopsital! Needless to say, I was disappointed because I had planned to take another trip in the daytime so I could see it better. Now I'm afraid to go back up there. Nevertheless, Glenn Dale Hospital is a beautiful building. The first sight of the place took my breath away, mainly because it's so big. I think it's safe to say I've fallen in love with the place, and wish there was some way I could see more of it. Again, use caution if/when you go there. You're definately taking a risk.
Has anyone approached the cops or determined who actually is in charge of the place? Perhaps one could make arrangements to check the place out by asking and getting permission. If not maybe just hit the cops with a stick or something whe they show up... but i digress. Be safe and happy hunting
If anyone knows how to LEGALLY get into the hospital ... please let me know! We are always looking for new and interesting places to visit!

My daughter and I passed the hospital today on the way to a contracting job. We'd never heard of Glen Dale, as we are from Frederick County. We instantly got the creeps passing by the grounds. Now, I can't get away from the computer to find out more. Its too bad they won't allow people to at least walk the grounds. Anyone know of any diaries kept by patients?
Yuppers... I remember the place well... my friends and I used to go up there in the mid to late 80's and it is AWESOME!!! We were hanging out there when the lights were still on, exploring and what not. The old x-ray machines still glowed when not plugged in, we found prosthetic legs, horse needles (I still have one from way back), wheelchairs, freezers, beds and cots, etc... There are tunnels leading to almost every building on site, even to the old caretakers house. A few years later I was in a punk rock band and we actually got permission to do a photo shoot (on the outside) for an album cover. Afterward, we hooked up with a police officer that worked there just passing by and he told us he had never been in there, so WE gave him a tour! That was years ago, but it was fun to actually explore one last time with someone who had a gun! I live out of state now, and it has been over 20 years ago. I would venture to guess that the place dosent have too much GOOD stuff left in it but maybe old paperwork, but, I will say this... anyone going there should be VERY CAREFUL!!! Not to mention the fines involved for tresspassing, but you could really get hurt in there! If you have any questions you can e-mail me at chanceimru2@aim.com I have TONS of stories!!!
Some say it is a matter of time before demolition.
I often wonder if there are cops. Im quite interested in going, but idont wanna go to jail.lol. Im trying to be a cop
I have herd so many stories off and on about glendale hospital, and i would love to go more then anything, since i have never been. but just like everyone els would rather not like to risk getting caught. does anyone know the place fairly to extremly well? i do have night vision goggles around my house some where that i could possibly take with my and my dad does alot of security work so i am flamiler with knowing where to look for that sorta stuff. but if anyone knows where the camers, sencors, and or other police things are please let me know i would love to plan a trip there.

please email me everthing you know,
and make sure the subject is GlenDale Hospital

Jason-
My mom and aunt went into the hospital with their two dorky friends at night!!!! It was so creapy. They went up to the celing with only a flashlight. The two friends had a blue print and there were tunnels under the ground. My mom is so protective it freaked me out when she told me what she did. Jason don't do it. YOu'll get caught like everyone else. They got caught by a preacher and of course the cops.
I don't care what nobody says.. there's something very odd & usual about this facility.

I live miles away from this place and every person I've interviewed seems to have some sort of story or 'word of mouth' they've come in contact with in prior years.

Not to mention, there are a handful of individuals that have explored the grounds and have something interesting to share. I don't think that many lies could be told. THERE IS SOMETHING VERY FISHY ABOUT THIS PLACE.
I went there last summer with a group of friends at night. We were nervous but we drove right on the grounds past all the No Trespassing signs. We stayed maybe an hour, We got pictures. It was cool, But thank god we didn't get caught. We didn't experience anything unusual but it was very scary.
what a wild old place...what will become of it? They can't tear it down - too expensive and hazardous 'cuz of asbestos and pretty far gone to bring back...they should do ghost tours! Haven't roamed those halls in over 18 years! quite a place...would love to go back (legally)
if u want to come to the glenn dale hospetl it is not so fun at first but u wil get ues to it an my dad an i an my sister went an i was so happy an wen my sister took pitures an i sawl gost i the piturse it was alsome
My friends and I are trying to go to Glenn Dale, but we're not so sure about the cops.
Could anyone who knows this place extremely well give me a realistic idea on how bad the cops are and whether we should go or not? Tips for avoiding cops/gaining legal entrance to the place would be much appreciated. im not trying to get caught. My group of friends are moderately experienced at urban exploration, yet the closest we have come to cops was seeing one about 70 yards away in the courtyard at Henryton.

any info would be much appreciated.
my dad snoke in there once he was so fucken scared
Anyone know if it is still owned by the D.C. Government?
MNCPPC owns it presently.
I have found some interesting stories and info about this hospital here

http://carantics.com/haunts/glenndale
let me tell you about this place. it is crazy. i went last year after a few beers and a redskins game with 2 other friends and i can tell you how not to break into glenn dale. first we parked just inside the main community. then we walked accross the street right in front of the park police car on top of the hill. we thought we were being so sneaky and we made it all the way up to the door and my buddy was goin in and then boom! a park police veh was commin up the dr. right behind us me and another guy started bookin and my one friend froze up so i went back for him but it was too late. the police man grabbed us by the arms and drug us back to his car. tellin us how he was watchin us the whole time he just wanted us to get closer so he wouldnt have to walk as far. so he takes our info down and is like where is the other guy that was with you. so we were like damn cj get up here. cop told us we werent leavin till he got that boys info too. so i had to go find him hiding under a tree somewhere. the cop ended up not giving us tickets or arresting us cause we are all fire fighters he just added our name to this list he had and told us if we ever came back, one by one he would drop our pants and bend us over the hood of his car. we were like yes sir. he gave us a ride back to our car and told us to get the fuck out and not to drive drunk anymore. no like at all. it was such a scarry time. and yes they have night vision and all that crap cause he let me look thru it and its bad ass.
Something has been drawing me to come to Glenn Dale for the past few years but I am already on probation and im not trying to get into any more trouble.......can someone tell me is it still possible to get permission from the police that are on the grounds all the time? I need to go there I feel drawn to this place for a reason please is if anyone has any info or would be interested in coming with me when i go to check it email me a hammy86@excite.com. I will be coming from harrisburg PA :)
People I know in the PG County government tell me there is a "feasability study" in progress, and that nothing will be done to the site for at least a year
There's a washington post article "Quarantined" about this woman and her mom, who was at GlennDale inthe 1950s. Only legit article i've seen about it. Google the title to see it. it came out two years ago i think.
My mother was a patient there in 1954-55 with TB. She also conceived my sister there with an employee. We would welcome any information about how to find out any information with regard to male orderlies employed during that time.
JBugaArt@aol.com
Any information would be helpful. The employee would be a male African American.
I went there with about 5 or 6 friends of mine back in '05. We went up the train tracks around the back. We walked for about a mile or 2 and it was cold as fuck going through the tunnel. We arrived behind the back of the adult hospital and walked inside. I remembered seeing signs that read, NO TRESPASSING and ASBESTOS WARNING. The hallways had holes in the floor and walls everywhere, and I remember being on edge, hoping to God that cops wouldn't see us. I saw this dead vulture that was hanging from a wall with blood smeared around it. That shit scared the fuck outta me. It was like somebody had performed some kinda ritual or somethin. I don't think that we were the only ones there that night, either. I also heard other people screaming and acting stupid around there... Like the cats I was there with weren't? lol We explored the laundry room, which still had beat up and overturned dryers in it. Also, we went into an office, or a room which was on the 2nd floor. There were old newspapers EVERYWHERE from the late 70's and early 80's. I saw a few bed frames with jutted coils. I tried hard most of the time to keep from breathing in the air, as it was stuffy anyways that day, and the asbestos warning really freaked me out. I saw the former patient rooms that were derelict with ripped out toilets, and wiring strewn about, and the aqua colored tile... which I always associated with eerie, outdated hospitals. It certainly was a creepy experience, fun nonetheless, though. There was a full moon out that night, and I remember the back of the building looking beautiful with the moon reflecting on parts of the windows. Really eerie, but really beautiful stuff. Lord knows it'll prolly get demolished some day, and with all the cops that are there now, no doubt it was a great priveledge to say that I was able to see what I had saw so recently, and without getting caught. Heh-heh, I even had a dream about this place about 2 weeks back... Scared the fuck out of me. In real life I was with a few people... In the dream... I was ALONE. I saw shit in there, I hope nobody will see in real life. Glenn Dale is one place you DO NOT want to go to ALONE. ;)
LOL disregard that, I was thinkin' bout Henryton. Henryton's bad ass... Especially with that Civil War era tunnel 'round back :)
oh no its the cops!
I worked at Glenn Dale Hospital in the 1950's. I think maybe the tunnels you all mention are the basement offices, etc. My office was in the basement near the Morgue and Kitchen.
My friends and I went last night and nothing crazy happend. Yeah, it was creepy just because it's an old complex, but all of those stories I read from earlier postings seem bogus. And the cops are definately on the prowl
Gosh...I've been here so many times in the past couple years!! I have a whole bunch of pictures if anyone is interested.
I am interested in getting into organized urban exploration, after exploration of many forts around Maryland. Glenn Dale Hospital has always been a goal of mine, but nobody has ever followed through with the plans to go there. Does anyone know of any urban exploration groups? E-mail me at honorbyblood@yahoo.com if you have any info.

I went to the hospitals a couple years back (maybe 2 or 3?). We parked at the shopping center across from the water tower and ran our way across 450 and up the hill-- theres a couple paths that you can see. Basically just bobbed and weaved in the tall grass on that hill. Got up to the top and chilled out for minute waiting for the rest of the group. Everyone got together and we were on our way. We freaked out when we came across two people but they were just hanging out in the field on a date sort of thing. Eventually spot lights hit the field and we hit the ground, then an accident happened on 450 at the light and all the cops fled to that, so we were pretty much home free. No more cops after that. So we proceeded to the childrens hosp, looked around, got bored as it was the 3rd time we checked it out. Then we headed to the nurses quarters in which we... FOUND THE TUNNELS! We went down and traveled for what seemed like forever. No dead ends. No bars. Just maybe a maximum of an inch of water at times. It was definatly cool. Only road block was from stones that had been thrown down a man hole that blocked the path somewhat, but we could have still gotten around. Eventually we climbed out and we were by the adult hosp. Started walking out, and BAM! Theres the security trailer. We snuck by and back across the street, through the field, and back to the cars. Really cool place to go. A couple weeks later a few friends of mine got caught-- 5 people went, 3 hid in the woods and never got caught, 2 got nabbed and only the one over 18 got community service and a fine. The other got a slap on the wrist. One of the spookiest places I've been but definatly worth it. PS-- DON'T park in the parking lots across from the hospital-- the cops said they would have never known they were there if they hadn't parked there. And if you park in the shopping center DON'T wear all black-- Dead give away!!
Me and my friends went there last night and got maybe 10 feet onto the grounds when we heard this creepy noise coming from the building and we freaked out and went back to the car. then we saw some guy running in all black behind us, and he was like "did yall hear that noise too?" and we're like yea! and he was like "BUSTED! police, on the ground now!" and we got trespassing citations. blower. but he was nice about it and said we'd probably just get 16 hours of community service. i just thought he shouldve given us a warning and let us off. i mean we were just 10 feet onto the property and didnt see trespassing signs and didnt even get close to the building. but we learned our lesson
sad hospetal
me and my friend went up there on april 5, 2008. this was our first time.
we got caught... they say they couldnt say if someone called or if they were just patroling... but the officer said they were surpized they didnt see us cuz she had just driven by. but it all depends if the memorys are worth 16 hours community service. this is a video i made from glenn dale. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPWSYC3X4Dw

[Edited for location details]
lol i mean april 5 2009!!!! that place rocks
I was there in 54 and 55. No, no I did not conceive a child while a patient there. I did have alot of good times there even having a wonderful surgery. Good stories to tell.
When I was there in middle fifties, we didn't have orderlies. Patients picked up laundry and delivered it when washed. We had nurses and aides. Patients also delivered meals. We did a lot.. Men were on another floor. We liked that as we had more privacy.
My husband who was a part black and small part Indian, G
God knows what else. Quite a mean man when visiting. I had to request no visits by him. My Doctor was Dr. Q. A wonderful person. I loved helping her and the nurses.
All staff was wonderful.
all I wanna know is if this place is actually haunted or not.whats the answer?!
This place has always looked cold and unfriendly,But yes I also Remember those swing sets you are reffering to,and the playground,As kids thats all we had to do at Glendale,as we were not allowed in the Adult Portion of the hospital, except very rare occasions,Most of the time my brother and i played at the little park and we swung on those swingsets all day long as my Mother Visited her father(our Grandfather) in as it was called back then the sanatarium,My grandfather spend a year or so there at a time or as little as 6 months one time, unable to leave by law,Kind of like being in prison,They would bring my grandfather to the window to wave at us now and then when he was healthy,The terriable thing about T.B. back then is ,you were an outcast in society, along with your family,it was never talked about openly outside the family as it was pretty much the plauge in peoples eyes they were so scared if they came near you they would contract it,and most likely they would if they had close personal contact or contact for any length of time,My Grandfather had it bad for years,in and out of the sanitarium at Glendale,my mother got it from him as they would send him home after they thought it was safe she lost a lung to T.B.,and all three of her brother contracted T.b. in there early 20,s,/so i have been to glendale a few times and remember the swingsets and little park for the kids the best ,along with the big smokestacks,I was always amazed at how big they were,I also understood it was for laundry, and Body Parts to be incinerated,It struck me even back then as a cold building plain looking unfriendly, and when it was reffered to as the Sanatarium when we were driving there to see my grandfather ,the only thing that did make a long stay outside by ourselves with the other kids, was the swings and little park where we spent the day by ourselves for the most part as all of us kids there were afraid to play with each other for fear of contracting T.B. from each other, our parents had told us to stay away from the other kids because of this every trip, after years my grandfather and family recovered from T.B. completly but we were always told to never tell anyone it was in our family ,not doctors, school officials or friends,And yes many people did die from T.B. in that hospital,So when you do go ,Maybe if you do it in a respectfull manner ,and not loot, paint it up with graffiti, the lost soles that Died there can lay in peace,as Most are better off that did die from that .There lives there were not happy lives,so now that there gone maybe they can at least rest in peace, free of that aweful disease.Maybe take some flowers and leave that your next Visit as an offering ,and you never know you may get on and off the property without getting caught!!!!
so, can u still get in w/ out getting caught? if so how? and is it true that u can get police to escort u in?
thanx
-z
been there many times. I have had quite a few personal experiences there with cold spots in the main hospital building. As well as sensations of being watched or followed through some of the tunnels. It was a great place to go explore until the security became to tight. Best way to enter [information removed as per site policy].

Hi! I lived in hyattsville Maryland andI went to glendale hospital about 7 years ago twice. The second time we were tracked by police and almost incarcerated. It was 2 girls and 3 boys including myself. I did infact film a small bit. Upon walking up the pathway to the front door we noticed a ton of fog. We went to the side of the buildings and there were melted candles all over the courtyard with drawings on the pavement we couldn't make out because of the overgrown weeds. When we went inside we would hear noises like people running, coughing, and crackling. We had to leave because one of the girls couldn't stand the smell. The second time we went it was just the 3 guys and the police were involved. Me and one of my friends ran as soon as we heard the police calling us over loud speaker my other friend ran in the wrong direction and the police apprehended him. Me and the friend who stuck with me wandered around in the woods for awhile until we agreed to turn ourselves in. Turns out the police were there waiting right beside the vehicle we had arrived in with our friend sitting on the curb in handcuffs. The police made us aware that the hospital is dangerous due to asbestos and deer ticks that carry lime disease. They pretended they were gonna arrest us but we were let off with a warning and a tresspassing fine. We were lucky.
the hospital is heavily guarded by police how
did you get in
Anyone like to try and get in sometime soon? JKanemd@yahoo.com

I just lived in the Glenn Dale area and we drove by the hospital all the time until they shut down the road at the railroad tracks by the old market. I have been reading the comments, one big problem I have seen is that some of you posting comments need to learn how to spell. I can tell who paid attention in school and who didn't. Put a spell check on your comment before you submit the comment. You won't look so retarded. Especially that big comment the kid left who claimed his father was a Prince George's County cop. The kid can't even spell George and he lives in the county... what a dummy.
I have only drove by the place when I was younger never had a chance to attempt exploring the place, but a good friend of mine told me the guard let him and some other people look in the windows of the crematorium. But it was at least 8 years ago that he had told me about it. I also remember him saying something about tunnels or sewers near a water tower that people went in, near there does anyone know anything about that.
If anyone is interested in going on a ghost hunt through the buildings of Glendale, let me know. I am getting written persmission to do so.
Sean - Please count me in if you get permission. My aunt died there in 1944 at the young age of 18. I'd love a chance to photograph anything I could without getting busted. I'm in Bowie. Please email me @ ca2112sd@gmail.com Thank you! AL
I have never been in the buildings but driven around the perimeter and talked to the police trying to find out about the place. One of my friends had a brother who spent his life there because that's where people were sent when there was a big TB epidemic. From talking to the curator at the Duvall Mansion, I was told that there were tunnels that connected all of the buildings so that staff, patients and supplies wouldn't be exposed to bad weather. The curator said that there was a mob-style murder in the tunnels in the 60's and the tunnels were shut down, so in the 70's the DC government turned it over to MD because they hadn't taken care of it. People went through stripping copper pipes out and stealing whatever equipment they could salvage. It became a spot for criminals as well. Police are there to keep people out so that if someone gets hurt, they can't sue MD. The place is a death trap because it hasn't been taken care of. It was a mental hospital BEFORE the TB hit and also a regular hospital.
yes i was wondering what kind of danger is in this place? i have been ghost hunting for a while now and it has always caught my eye. from what i hear there are cops and dogs on the property is this true? i understand your point about not tearing it down its beautiful and the history of this place is amazing
please get back to me with any more info.

thank you for your time and take care.

I am an amateur photography who specifically likes to photograph abandoned buildings. I live not far from Glenn Dale and have always toyed with the idea of visiting Glenn Dale to shoot but have always been afraid of getting caught. Does anyone have any recent stories of exploring Glenn Dale? I've heard that if you approach the police instead of sneaking around they might be more willing to let you explore? I don't necessarily want to go into any of the buildings, but I would like to explore and photograph the grounds, preferably in the day light.

I just went to the hospital last night... it was pretty creepy, we swore we heard some noises a few times. the only thing that sucked was i really had to pee, lol... so for anyone who is thinking about visiting make sure you make a bathroom run before hand.
