About 2 seconds.
i think this was a hospitol that tried to save people on a boat that was on fire cause a hosptiol was used as a holiding site for the dead bodies and to help survivors i forget the name of the boat but it was on the history channel like a year ago but it was intersting cause it had to deal with a hospitol that was secluded im not sure if it was this one or if there are many othere hospitols around like it fromt he time period......i will have to look into this much more
That would be the contagious disease hospital on North Brother Island, home of Typhoid Mary; they helped the survivors of the General Slocum fire on June 15, 1904. 1,021 people died, mostly women and children.

North Bother Island is between Queens and the Bronx, Renwick is on Roosevelt Island (formerly known as Blackwell's Island) which is between Queens and Manhattan.
This place looks amazing!
I've seen this place before (photos of it) on photographyreview.com one of the members there did some work with their Holga at this local.
We look forward to someday seeing your pictures of North Brother Island, Mr Motts
do you reckon they deliberately built it to look scary?
Looks like a miniture set, with a backdrop. Even the trees look kind of fake.
Ladies and Gentleman- This sound stage was where they shot "Blood and Roses". Please keep moving as we walk past the stunning facade built for this movie...

Just kidding.. It does have that street facade feel from old movies
I live in Queens an this place i remeber when i was a teenager, fooling around in this facility, they also, years ago filmed the Bronx warriors 1999 in this place...
Wow, so many of these saddening places that are "marked" by death and tragedy are just so extremely beautiful.
Once again, beautiful architecture and lovely photographs, as always.
that is my kinda house i'm looking for tenants ne1 interested rent is cheap
This shot is great! Does anyone else notice the figure in the window to the right of the door? I just got the chills.
I read the book "Wickett's Remedy" last year, and if I'm not mistaken, this is the hospital she ended up working in.

fantastic!
<3
Love that architecture. I wish I could salvage all that stone. I’d design a house in the country based on that façade.
my favourite place, i always used to look over the river at it and want to live there what a shame of a beautiful building. Why doesnt anyone buikd with pride anymore?
What idiots would allow this? Why would they do this to the hospital.
This view always causes wonderment everytime i pass it on the FDR DRIVER
I see this place every day (my apartment looks on to Roosevelt Island) but I was never able to really admire the beautiful facade this place has from that distance. Thanks so much for posting this!
I love all the photos taken of this old building. I was reading City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare and they mentioned this building in the story. Just curious I googled it and to my surprise it is a real building. It is sad to see it go to ruin. I think to if these walls could talk what horror stories it would tell. They didn’t have medical help back in the day like they have now. Poor sick people pretty much went here to die.
Beautiful Architecture.
it looks like a big facade.lol :) great job motts
Wow, GTA 4 got recreated this place perfectly, they even got the balcony supports and arched windows right! Motts, all your findings and photo's are brilliant!
