Adminstration Drive

The grounds, which were once carefully mowed lawns, are now a tangled mess of tall weeds.

This is my first time looking around on this site, but this picture is intriguing me. I'm sitting here wondering what it was like to be in there all those years ago, to have no true connection with the outside world...it's sad...
If you go to Pennhurst now, you see names on the buildings like Quaker Hall or Store Building. But according to Mr. Ferleger, the buildings were called A, B, C etc. but they changed the names in the middle of the court case. I guess they wanted people to get the impression that they wern't so impersonal.
It is scary to think as a child growing up i lived right down the street and i too could have been a resident there since i was a troubling child i am only glad times are different. Thank you for letting me get an inside look of what could have been my hell...
Ive been here before. This is the first building i went into. I reccomend comming here. Only problem is dodging the military because there is a base right neer here. Ive been in all of the buildings and in every room. I know this place by heart. Great photo
The National Guard base near here is VERY on top of the happenings here. Each of them know the lay out of the complex, and what should and should not be there. (A good friend of mine trains/works there). Being of the generation that we are, we also know other ways to get in and around the area. Back when we were all in high school, there was a group of people that used to do "research" on Pennhurst and we acquired (the information isn't being used for anything other than historical knowledge) maps, business cards, lists of staff, etc. The comment about buildings A, B, C...etc is correct, there was absolutely no personality behind any one of the buildings here, other than the architecture.
This was the perfect time of year to take these photos- beautifully dreary.
Belchertown State School also named buildings by letters: A (recreation building), B, C, D, E, F, G, K, L, and M. I'm not sure why there were gaps in the sequence. There were other buildings too, with more normal names (Tadgell Nursery, The Infirmary, The School Building, the Farmhouse, the "cottages (#1-9) etc. Later, after I left, all the letter -named buildings were renamed to appear more "home-like" (but nothing could ever make them home-like!)
This architecture reminds me a lot of Northampton State.
that use to be the best place to go into till some jack asses decided to start lighting shit on fire in there
Pennhurst was a state institution for children and adults w/ developmental disabilities and mental health issues from severe to high functioning. Not a place for troubled kids. It was a place (in those days) for parents or family memebers to place there sibling or child w/ mr/mh. Some actually thought that it would be the best solution. Back then when they would think someone was mentally or physically retarded the docters would almost force parents into putting their children there. And this happened all over not just here in Pa. Ignorance and fear kept those places running. It is really a shame too because I work w/ some individuals that come from there and you can tell they will never recover from what they were put through there. Its very sad........
For anybody who wants see even more pics here is the link!!! http://www.elpeecho.com/
fall seems like a great time of year to observe this place
Do you ever catch unexplained shadows or phenomena in your photos?
Nothing too out of the ordinary...
I worked at Pennhurst. There were employees who were concerned for the patients and some who were abusive to them. There was a hospital with a T.B. ward, dental clinic, school where classes were taught in weaving, basket making.and other classes. Also there was a dairy, and poultry farm, Penn Hall was a residence for one of the types of maintenance, others had homes on th property which were part of the state property too.The girls colony was up on the hill and there were three buildings, one, which was called C8 and in the basement was a cannery where items were canned. Inthe basement of C2 was the kitchen, where food was prepared for the girls and the employees that worked up there. A dental clinic was inC4 building which also housed less mentally handicapped girls. Some of the girls did beautiful tatting and crocheting which employess would pay them to do for employees..

some ofnt
I went to there on friday night, DO NOT GO INTO PENN HALL, My friend that I was with and got deamonic possesed, She claimed that she was living as a patient in room 121. She was being abused by a doctor, that would abuse patients, Then the doctor would dipose the bodies in the white shed. I dont know how true of what she was saying is, Yes I was SCARED she fainted near the power plant, we took her to the sunoco to have some OJ, any thing that had surgar in it, the next 48 hours, was the worst thing ever in my life. She started convulsing in teh back seat, she then stood say up and spoke a weird dialoque, it sounded like broken latin. ( many of you that is reading this think I might be some bullshitter, but I am not) We took her to the pottstown hospital thinking that mabey she was low on surgar, She started to convulse in teh waiting room and saying santanic messges liek I will kill you. (anyone that know anyone at the Pottstown hospital, ask about the 5 people that entered around 2:00 in the morning) The one nurse at the hospital was terrified, did not know what to do and told us that she will be alright, Leaving the hospital she claim the a figure in a blue gown was chasing her in teh car, the same figure she seen in Penn Hall, The next 48 hours was a nightmare, She would be find that she would snap into shaking and convulsing and like growling like a dog. In the morning we tried looking for a roman catholic church, sinec they were close we went to a baptist church at our last hope, Now the baptist have different believes about deamon, so the pastor only said a prayer, As holding our hand in a circle the prayer to god pissed the deamon in her off. As soon as we walk in to the elavator you could tell in her eyes that is was not human. After going back to my apartment I started reading the bilbe to her, verses fron psalms, Itthe deamon demanded that i will repay for this. (I have videos if her becoming a deamon) There on my cell phone and yes you hear me scared shitless. TO make a long story shirt, does anyone have information about Penn Hall, Also I will be typing this story up in a word document in alot alot alot more detailed. Feel free to Email me @ Mra3r28@hotmail.com or call at 267 266 6602
I've never heard of a hospital that would turn away a convulsing patient because they didn't know what to do...

two words to describe this place "HAUNTED HOUSE" it has all of the stereotypical elements" a large elegant and imposing nature, and dead trees and tall grass! its almost like somebody designed it this way! LOL! this is VERY frightening! again reminds me of the Haunted Mansion at Disney World.
I saw Bill Baldini on TV on April 27, 2010 on NBC10 News at approx. about 5:40 PM
If this place got weeds in it, how did that girl and her mom get through the place to get the story for NBC10?
Hey Justin W I heard this place is gonna be a haunted house on September 23rd.
