A better photo of the twin-stack with some help from a flashlight. No autopsy table was present, although there was a drain in the floor.

the way the freezer id put seems very shuned from the rest of the room possibly shows there attitude towards the mentaly ill.....
This was a morgue, not a solarium or a bedroom. These were built for medical practice and efficiency, not to look pretty or comfort the residents... I don't think assumptions towards patient care should be made from these "behind the scenes" places.
did they keep dead people in there?
yes they did leave corpses in there
Rissa, I sure wouldn't want to be live and be in there!
I know at Dixmont (just outside Pittsburgh,PA..soon to be a Wal Mart) the man that owns it sold the autopsy table to a buddy who turned it in to a counter to for his bar How sick is that??
It looked like a nice porcelain one too...

I remember the guy was also trying to sell the morgue freezers too.
eh, I met Mr. Stroyne....he is not a bad guy at all. The amount of trouble that place has caused him, I don't blame him for trying to make a few dollars. Dixmont is in ruins.
ya freaky....my mom actually used to work at Pennhurst when she was about 18 years. After hearing all the stories about her incounter with people there i was freaked out. i actually found out that she even got abused by the patients there.
The autopsy table actually looks like it would be good for anything messy like artwork or mechanics...when you were done you could clean up easily...
Dixmontjosh,

The guy who bought the autopsy table didn't turn it into a bar. He's a close friend of mine and we did kick around many ideas for the use of it, one of those ideas was using it as a bar. But, he didn't. He still has it in storage since a move a few years ago, but I can assure you that no drinks have been served on it.
Whats wrong with turning it into a bar? -other than the limited amount of space. What a great conversation piece it would make!
The fridges would make an awsome beer fridge!!
before they tear down pennhurst, i told myself i was going to take one of the tables from the freezer room. if you go under the mess hall, there are over 1 million small plastic sippy cups. brand new too. right near the meat lockers. i have like a box of 1000 of these plastic cups that were there.
As a frequent visitor of the rundown institution, I have visited the morgue on several occasions. I have even lied on one of the body racks. I removed one of the latches (lock and chain still attached and locked). The latch now rests in my bedroom near my bed. Stamped on the latch in raised letters is:
JAMISON 33TH
HAGERSTOWN, MD.
the lock was made by:
CUSACK
HARDWARE CO.
1004 ARCH ST. PHILA.
I consider this to be one of my most prized posessions
thats pretty fucked up... Are there any left.. cuz i stay around haggerstown sometimes.. i want one! email me coltin_grundy@yahoo.com
what i wanna know is why does the latch say haggerstown if pennhurst is in PA
Been a while since I've visited this site...Sorry. It took someone almost 2 months to respond to my previous comment, I stopped checking after about 3 weeks. Eddie J, it's possible that the company that made the lock is in Haggerstown Md.
why would people do that kind of shit,
thats just wrong
is it just me or does that wood look sorta new? Everything else is dusty but that wood looks clean.
i would love to sleep in one of those. tha would be awesome.
You sure like to steal things, don't you, Steve G?
i was wondering why their wasnt an autopsy table also...but that room is kinda really small...maybe one of the rooms nearby was for the autopsy
The way the freezer trays slide otu obviously means it was a morgue so they could examine the bodies and brains of the mentally ill for research.
this is very disrespectful to the dead. god bless them this is crazy
if this was you whay would you do
We had planned to sleep in the morgue but we chickened out. We just might the next time we go up with a more able guide.
ive been to pennhurst 5 times, went thru 11 different buildings. ive stood infront of these freezers. if any one ever wants to go sometime then email me: jenn_187@peoplepc.com
i have been to pennhurst like 500 times and the one time i layed on the freezer rack and my friends pushed me and shut the door.......not so fun but defintly something to remember....
