this is horrible
i am sickened, but i am not at all suprised by the conditions that these people were subject to
You're not surprised? That's a little depressing, actually.
but doesnt look like this because its really old just think when it was open it probly looked the same way
It's got Mott's signature, the "lonely chair", or desk in this case
I can't figure out what the silver and blue object is on the floor.
a keillidescope? I can't spell it, I'm sorry.
thist tubeish item on the floor looks pretty strange
looks like a big can of red bull IT GIVES YOU WINGS!
FOR ALL I KNOW IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE CAFETERIA, THE GYM, A WHALING WALL, OR AN EMPTY ABORTION CLINIC. NEVER SAY NEVER. IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN ALL 4 AND THEN SOME..................................
I am betting it was a whaling wall. That's where all the little seamen came from we were remarking on recently. Maybe they did abortions on whales in the cafeteria and then worked out at the gym.

Why do I feel like I just fell down the rabbit hole, Alice?
did anyone noticed that the distance of the light to the ground is very short ...
if it was a medical room that would explain the low hanging light..it would just give you alot brighter light to look at your "subject"...its hard to toruture people in the dark
Torture? Please give me a break.
The lights are low as an attempt to put as much of the lighting to good use as possible. We do this now, only we usually add a drop ceiling as well. We just did this at my workplace a few months ago. It helps insulate the room as well as brighten things up. We dropped the ceiling to one inch above the rather tall windows.

I think the scene could be rather pleasent. Imagine someone in their robe and slippers sitting there with their coffee and reading the morning paper by the dawning sunlight. Their blue and white thermos by their side.
Or, there just might be........

SOAP in there!
Ooooh, now TORTURE is a subject I know. Trust me when I say that it's just as easy to do in complete darkness as it is in full sunlight, and sometimes more fun (they don't know where you're coming from next!).
theres a movie i watched called "session 9" its a movie that is almost based off of pennhurst... i recondmend that u watch this creepy ass movie
I beg to differ.Session ( was filmed at and about Danvers State Hospital.
ive actually been here
Jeez, Lynne, I was so glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read your comment about the "whaling wall"!!!

I totally agree, ROFLMAO
Do you have a picture of the dental chair that they used ot pull the teeth out of patients. I know they showed it on tv on Ghost Adventures. Love that show by the way. :)
I vaguely remember one being in the Keystone building; I couldn't really light the shot as the flashlight would have drawn too much attention by the National Guard base next door.
well it may have been used for abortions because there was alot of sexual abuse in there by patient and staff :*(
For heaven's sake, it's just a room!! Yes, there is tile. The only other "medical" thing is the low-hanging light. If it isn't an aerosol, it's a Red Bull can. ...so, go ahead and scare yourselves silly. BOOO.
I remember visiting this place for a High School Health class field trip. It was just as bad as people say. Granted the paint is bad and neglect of the buildings now, but it was pretty much maintained . The buildings were maintained (Not clean) and the lawn and shrubs were trimmed. I will never forget when we pulled up in the school bus. It was like in the movies. No supervision and clients jumping out of trees and just doing what they wanted. We as a class had to stay close together (Stated by the tour person) The halls and rooms were disgusting. (Smells, urine and the such). I was surprised that most of the clients did not realize we were there to look at them. Some asked me if I had certain things in "My Ward". I really felt bad for them. The only reason I could figure out why the school district would want us to field trip this place was to make us feel good that we were not like them. It was just a crime that these people were treated like this.
I have been fasinated by this buliding since I saw it on an episode of Ghost Adventures. The horrors that this buliding experienced is devastating, but I think that it would be a interesting place to just be inside of.
I would say the blue thing on the floor is an old kaleidoscope.
I cannot believe that anyone could make jokes about any of the rooms or buildings! This place saw no love or happiness to the wars, they were like prisoners. And now it is a haunted attraction like some freak show. Wasn't it bad enough for the people when they were alive? Now for a fee you can go make fun of them when their dead. Tours should be to learn from our mistakes so that history does not repeat itself and to pay respect for those who suffered inside these buildings. I am interested in the paranormal but some places need to be left in peace.
