Clothes

I'm surprised there aren't many homeless people living inside the building, with so much left behind, although we did meet one outside.

theres probly is someone that comes here
I dont know Motts, why would the homeless want to come to a place where there is so much lingering sadness?
A place to live takes priority before it's aesthetics.
A lot of chronically homeless people are pretty strange characters. They don't necessarily share the same perspectives on the physical world as you and I, Bella!
is it just me or does it look like there is someone curled up in those blankets on the left?
This may sound wrong, but it might be better then living on the streets.
Motts. do you run into many other explorers, homeless, or vandals on these sites???
The picture is strange...I'm not sure if I would want to visit Pennhurst, maybe just get a closer look at it...like walk around in the bushes and hide ya know?
even as a homeless...I ccan not see myself going in there.....too creepy
Robin,
Yeah, it sort of does. Also, it looks like there is a raccoon coming through the mattress and in front of it looks like a hangmans noose.
Does anyone get a creepy feeling that some of the clothes still take on the shapes of the pacients that used to fill them?
Makes me wonder if any of the patients are now homeless , and may have come back here to live, they would know how to get around in the place, and be free to come & go . no restraints.
motts what is that on the bed?
I'm not sure, a tin for food maybe, I don't remember.
when Pennhurst closed down the once resadents of this place never left for long , as they had no where to go.
they return to live in the inside of the walls of what we know of pennhurst today.
Oh, for heaven's sake.
*Snicker*

Inside the walls

Disturbingly interesting...
first of all i want to state that...when i went there at nite i thought that bums just might be there as well... but after investigation i am positive that the only people that go there are people looking for adventure and deffinately not to stay the nite... NO BUMS LIVE THERE!
That is true that people came back to live on the grounds right after it was closed down because they knew nothing but this place regardless of how they were treated. I think that homeless people have spent nights here because when walking through the buildings you will see stuff like this. I could never spend a night here personally it is hard walking through here in the daytime. To answer someone's question about bumping into people up here. I have been up there more then I can count I have come across the military guards up at the womens building and locals just taking a walk or people driving out quickly in the night. Once me and my B/F came across a dog that was acting very strangely that really scared me and him to the point I just wanted to get in the car and get out of there. The dog was whinning and everywhere we would go he would show up as if to warn us to leave.
Definitely a warning - probably a psychic dog, would be my guess.
I've got to ask my sister-in-law if she's ever seen that psychic dog wandereing around up there. She works at the Vets Center where I'm sure they are abusing our poor veterens since many of the employees used to work at Pennhurst. And you know old habits are hard to break.
I bet they are abusing animals at the veterinarian's as well. Bunch of sickos, I b'lieve.
that is one ugly building.
Just an idea,Motts why don't you take picture of the homeless and have them tell you there story and post it!!
I know of alot of homeless people who like to hang around there. I also know of alot of patients who wonder around town here. There is "Bike Mike", the woman who wears tons of clothing and huge sunglasses with a hat with a large brim (because she can not be exposed to the sun), and there used to be a man who walked around in a suit blazer with a tie and a nice shirt but wore only boxers for his pants. There are more but these people we all know and love around this town. Bike Mike rides his bike to the schools everyday to say hi to the kids.. when i was working at a local K-Mart.. i had the pleasure of talking to the woman.. and then the older man was one that my sister knew. She worked at a local ice cream place and she knew he couldnt have ice cream but only yogurt..and helped him with that.
Very nice Danielle.
hey Danielle I'm assuming you live in Phoenixville...i've seen bike mike around alot up at PAHS...a very nice guy indeed...hes a bit slow but not dangerous at all...not someone you would expect to be comming from a place like this...I've also seen that lady around once or twice in the k-mart shopping center and by mc ds
looks like a bunch of mummies layin on the ground
Those clothes are bunched in some places in such a way that they look like sleeping human forms.
i've seen A dog... it had a lacerated front paw, and one eye (i'm not kidding) and it looked like it was protecting something. it was right in front of the D-13D resident chambers. i quickly left, checked out the offices for any changes in document placement, and to check a time lapse camera that i placed. i saw 3 totally naked people run across that room, and turn the corner (stupid college kids) but no one looked directly at the camera, and one person did steal a few medical records...
great place to get catch Zzs
the place is probably haunted
No... only by dust and neglect.
i doubt there are many homeless people that stay there b/c there are military gaurds and police that patrol the area b/c the property is now under military control. I know several friends that have had close calls with getting caught tresspassing on the property at night. I've seen some of the former patients of Pennhurst wandering around Royersford.
yes there are too many guards and people who wander around for a homeless person to stay in one spot... there is also much dust and asbestos which wouldn't allow for a very comfortable night sleep.
on a separate note, it is a shame that people who go to visit cant be sure that what they are seeing is truly accurate...there are too many people relocating items or even taking them with them...my cousin, on one of his many trips had found the morgue of the complex...the next time that he went all of the doors and trays had been removed...too bad no one will be able to see it again.
I work at a grocery store not far from Pennhurst and there are a few customers who are former patience that come in quite frequently. Does anyone remember the lady that used to sit at Burger King and Yell at herself?
What are people doing walking around Pennhurst like it was some kind of place to have fun and have no respect for those who were patients and their relatives who went to visit there with much sadness.
I have been living in Royersford for maybe 2 and a half years and i am 14, i know many people who were at Pennhursts as a Job and as a person many said its was a place and the others it was a nightmare. I have seen Bike Mike is it? at my school near a 7/11 little far? and i have talked to them they are very nice just a little slow and there is nothing wrong about it.
o and my school is SPring-Ford
looks like a hobo lives there
You lil' whipper snappers! I outta' smack you in shape! The first place I would go if I'm homeless (which I'm not, I live on a nice BIG pile of concrete with many people coming and going and with pretty lights always on so that I don't get scared in the dark) I would live on a BIG pile of concrete with many people coming and going and with pretty lights always on so that I wouldn't get scared of the the dark! Does that make sense to you little whipper snappers?! Kids these days... ... never use their brain.
Is it me or do you see a person in the sheets. Pennhurst looks so sad and cold I feel so sad for the people who were forced to live here. : [
Were they the patients clothes ? '_'
I agree with robin. I thought it was a corpse there when I first saw this picture. That was scary!!!!!
If I ever get a chance to visit Pennhurst I'm gonna see if there's really a corpse under those blankets.
That looks a like a body!.
