Metal Collars

Metal Collars

I'm not sure what the significance of these metal collars are that are around the pillars.

Were those pillars made of metal, or was it a sheet metal a covering?
It looked like sheet metal wrapped around the pole. I know they sometimes plate doors and corners with metal near the floor where wheelchairs and gurneys are commonly used to prevent dammage, but this is strange.
They're probably to prevent kids from climbing them.
hahaha...kid deflectors...sorry, that was funny. The fact that they're the same height as the room dividers makes me think of water stains from a flood...
Obvious Alien influence, Did you see any capacitors upstairs ???
Maybe it was either to keep people from climing the posts....OR maybe the plaster was crumbling and it was used as a cover for it instead of repairing it (like a pressed tin ceiling was sometimes used to hide cracking plaster ceilings).
yeah i saw that the other night...i just figured it was so stuff didnt scratch up the paint when passing threw like the doors and junk
the entire place is about 70 feet above the nearby river to high to flood. more then likely there to repair the concrete pillers to maintain there strenght
kid deflectors? sounds like a theory! even better: 14,000 volt, high amp, electrified kid deflectors. most kids dont take no for an answer. further persuasion is therefore often needed.
lol

the metal coverings served as gaurds so the residents and patients couldn't damage them and alter the structural integrity if the building. don't believe me? look at some of the other damages around the complex, then tell me if you still don't believe me. just be sure that you can back your sh** up.
Anybody ever consider they were there simply for decoration?
come on now there for gaurds like mike said....but even today's smartest kids can get around anything to eat paint chips...no pun intended on the patients.
It was a state hospital, the last thing they care about it decorating the place.
the metal wrapping is there so when patients were being moved to a different location.. they cant grab onto anything... straight up torture shit..
uhh, I think they only stopped caring about decorating as of the 1930s... (GREAT thought was put into architectural ornamentation in the initial construction of these buildings!!)
Ok, somebody que the zombies they are needed in this scene! LOL! FRIGHTENING!
There is an actual face peering out of the large crack in the upper left hand corner of the room. Distinct, staring, creepy. I am a local artist and my friend was showing me this site when she saw the face. I enlarged it. It is real. Stop going to Pennhurst. Push for this place to be demolished or turned into a memorial. This should not be an attraction. People were tortured and murdered here. Justice was not served. Many victims of this place still live amongst us in phoenixville, spring city, etc. This sick fascination with the suffering of others is wrong. Read a book
If you notice, the metal wrapping the posts is stainless steel. Intersting that they would be this far off the floor for use as a surface protector. It also appears that the concrete from the metal to the floor is newer then the other concrete surfaces and doesn't appear to be stained or discolored from time . I think they may have been put in prior to the facility closing as reinforcement for the columns.
Exactly what I was thinking Kevin A.
Tyne, the place is COVERED in decoration! From the mouldings to the rooftops....
They're flux capacitors lmao... :)
There is probally alot of asbestos dust in and out. They had alot of problems with unattendended individuals eating the paint chips and what was under them. They had to expand the hospital ward at one point because of lead poisoning. Then..history says they corrected the problem. The columns covered in this manner may have been one of the solutions. Cleaning was done by the unpaid inmate. The material covering the columns is a material that is easily cleaned. It is also easy to see where it was not cleaned. IMHO,this was a place of tourcher for so many
people. Many of whom are still living. It is way too soon to turn it macab.A little bad luck, the loss of a parent, poor eye site, too active at the dinner table,It didn't take much to be sentenced to Pennhurst.
Sorry edit,difficult on tablet
