how the hell do you know what this stuff is? i always wonder about contraptions like these but can never quite imagine what they're for...
I don't, I'm just making this up as I go along...

But seriously, it's a matter of deduction, a diesel motor not on a car, lots of wires hanging out, and some dials with voltage output give it away... it's a lot easier to tell when you're looking at the thing up close.
i just marvel at the stuff people leave to rot. weren't these things important for power? why do you think someone just said, "well, can't bring it home, so just leave the fucker"? i realize eBay has revolutionized reselling, but there've been ads in tabloids for like a few hundred years--why wouldn't the owner have re-sold it? sorry, there's just a part of my brain that goes, "nah, it can't be important or someone would have taken it or sold it!"
LOL! EBay.... can you imagine the S&H on that puppy?!
i am from linfield and this place was the playground for all the kids in linfield i can tell you about anything this place.
Obviously a generator like this would not have originally been sitting in the middle of a driveway. Apparently someone tried to remove it from its original site, and then gave up -- caught by the cops maybe? Anyway, a good size roll-back truck or truck and crane would have been needed to move it, and due to its age and condition, probably would not have been worth the effort or expense. But it does make a good pix. No, I can't identify the make -- damned!
yo im from linfield, and this place is STILL the playgournd for us adventure seekers. Known to us as "Kinsey's", we always shil on the roofs or inside the buildingds. recently, the have started work on the buildings, and were pretty pissed, considering u can get into pretty big trouble 4 being back there.... howd u guyz get in, btw? we either sneak through front gate, come from Sacco, or from those abandoned houses back there.
i love this place, and i would hate to see it knocked down.... :( it like my second home....
yes sam i know i miss it alot since i dont live there any more!
Almost looks like part of an old diesel switching locomotive. Way Cool.
I have seen many of these units, it is a diesel generator. It looks to be a 4 or 6 cylinder Detroit Diesel. I know it's not any type of switching unit because there are not wheels. What looks like wheels are the feet of the stand it is sitting on.
Could be part of one that has been stripped., although someone said it's to small to be one.....Still a killer pic, though. .
Thats a BUDDA diesel...My dad have one of those engines at his water pump station locust valley water dist.
Nope it looks like a detroit 671.
its a detroit looks like a 671
Just there recently and that exhaust is ripped off now as if someone tried to steal it. Everything there is moved around and things are missing
I'm with Truckie and jpsepp, looks like an old 6-71 Detroit, you can see the air box covers on the side. There should be a blower on the other side of the block if someone hasn't run off with it. Two strokes like this are relics of days before hippies and the EPA brought the Hammer of Emmisions down on industry.
Its a Detroit Diesel 671 its a hoss. It still has worth if it aint full of water. I worked on plenty of them.
it looks alot different now it was really stripped down...
