i went to letchworth last month. in this area i found it spray painted with "enter and die" etc...

Joey, if you add your exact route to this public web site the security guards will be sure to look up all 8 of you on Friday, March 31 at Letchworth Village, which is still partially in use and therefore has security guards on patrol.

Hel-lo!!!!!
Hehehehe! ;0) And again!

It hurts... it hurts so much to read!!! Why oh why did I never learn pig latin???
This place bears a superficial resemblance to my home - mostly because of the smoke stack. I live in an old factory more than 100 years old that was renovated into living space. For 10-15 years the building I now live in was abandoned and although it is not huge (unlike this picture) it was the type of place that Motts might have explored.
Sketchiekins~ there are translators online...yes, yes for igpay atinlay!
Last year me and a friend skipped gym and went in there. that place is so fucked up. we heard pianos. we were trying to smoke and we heard so much shit. if u go there you cant climb into the stack its deceiving. there is a crazy cat walk leading partially up there though. and if u go there go to the back there is a huge empty garage. u can climb on the sides....there platforms. we heard someone yell in there while we were in there. we didnt see shit. this and the jacobsen house are the scariest place. trust me
I was there today, it's crazy how they have the patient files lying around everywhere! I can't wait to go back and explore more. Where exactly is this house that everyone's talking about?
we went into the smokestack and all the ash surrouned us.it was so scary, when wecame out blackf-foot prints seemed to follow us!!!
i have been in the smoke sack too i took a picture lokind up at the the sky in there
i just went in there today it was pretty sick but dont worry security is pathetic they dont catch anyone
My grandfather Brad Brush was a steam engineer at this plant. They generated steam that was delivered by pipes to numerous buildings where it was used to make hot water, heat and cool buildings & etc. I remember going there one day with him and looking into the firebox of one of the main boilers (we used a mask with a thick glass viewport). One time he let me put coal into the firebox. The trains used to run over the top of the building and dump into hoppers in the roof. Inside the work area a trolley of sorts would be driven by electric motor to the appropriate firebox and a button would be pushed which would cause coal to travel down a chute and into the furnace. I remember the burnt coal piles and how it looked like black foamy glass and the tinkling noise it made when tossed on the pile. He eventually left there and became the Stationary Steam Engineer for the 'new' hospital that was built a few miles away.
smokestack looks sweet i wud love to go in there but im on thewest coast boo hoo :(
in regards to like security, there really is none. you are allowed to go in the buildings as long as you dont have like bags of crap that look suspicious [ie. spraypaint, lighter fluid and DUMB SHIT!]

and wow this is the first ive heard of all these freaky tales. whenever i go to places i often get this AURA of whether theyre good or bad and letchworth has always seemed to docile to me. nothing too bad

but id love to hear some scary stories if anyone has any =]

why did this place close down anyway??
I miss snow! Don't get any way down south where I live now.
I live in Buffalo, New York and there are plenty of snow every year. How about I send some snow your way and see how you like it.
In October we had a big fricken storm and it was all over the news. Don't forget the famous Blizzard of 77. I wish I was alive in 1977 just to check it out.
it was closed caused they were killing the patients. the power house is an intreresting place i run around in there all the time usually alone and it can get a little creepy at times any one know if there are any entrances to the tunnels in the power house
Can't get in there - too many dead patients stacked in the doorways, don'tcha know? ;-)
dead bodies aint that big a deal they should be rotted by now
Letchworth Village was closed because the patients there were seriously neglected and abused by the staff. It was terrifically overcrowded. At oone point it was housing 4,500 patients at a time. Kids who were committed did not all have beds they slept on the floors and were treated like animals. It was not unlike the conditions of WillowBrook Institution which was also closed. Geraldo Rivera reported these abuses on the news years ago and made major investigatory reports and it blew these places wide open...now, they have been closed. Letchworth was one of the largest mental health institutions on the East Coast. It was an astounding disgrace, the way the patients were treated. Many of the patients were seriously ill and mal-treated. I've seen video of the reports and they are truly disturbing. Human beings should never be treated that way and it should never be allowed to occur again. The staff consisted of Doctors, various therapists and lots of aides, that truly never have been allowed to work with innocent sick people, including children.
it looks pretty cool so whats wronge with it.....Why did it close down....
It also just closed due to the whole de-institutilonalization era, where state-run psychiatric hospitals and centers, were closed in order to really save the state money and few were left open. Many residents were sent to group homes or smaller living centers.
me and my friend went in the lecheorth tunnels that connect all the buildings [details edited per site policy]. . . in the tunnels it was around 30 degrees colder than above ground. We went with flashlights and in the tunnels the ceiling is only around 7 ft. Tall we took videos and on my friends he got this white orb surrounding my head the whole experience was creepy and I was scared the entire time. [details edited per site policy]
Dang, I've been hoping to find a way to access the building but I want to do it when I can't get cops around. Is there any way to give any info on the different time when cops are around and cops aren't around? It'll be a big help for investigation. I would get the info myself, but I am usually in school by day, and at night its pretty dang hard to get there when you are only 14
this comment goes to andrew..ive been to the field house as well and its crazy.but if it was fixed up it would be nice..we were to scared of the basement..well actually disgusted cuz we saw a rat.
Does anyone know where the field house was located?
its by the just for fun baseballl feilds ive been in eveery house, every tunnel and have been scared shitless when i came out. its so weird in their..so...cold
and u can tell this pic is old caz now all the windows are broken =]
well ur wayy offf tthe field house is right in front of the middle school the house by the just for fun fields is the jenkinson house and yes a total of 14 families were killed in these houses
Every few months me and my friends visit letchworth. My mother worked there, and I never seen it up and running. Me and a few of my friends decided to go there and see what was so serious about it. ... We went to the power plant and all over the doors of the paint shop etc. said enter and die. To be honest, as much as I would love to enter these buildings Im glad I didnt.
And about the field house, a family lives there now. Husband, wife, and child.
Its really not scary, I was in this particular building yesturday, it was very interesting. Almost like Humanity had died off for a brief second.
what 14 families were killed? that doesn't really sound accurate. and for what reason exactly? i know many patients died but whole families.. living where?
is the feild house the house by the baseball feilds that has a view of like everything??

i LOVE that house... i wish i coul buy it lol
no way, ppl were murdered there?
^ please, get back to me if you know anything about the feild house

So I was in the hospital behind feildstone and next to willowgrove with some friends and we went to the basement of the place and let me tell ya, it was nuts! While we were down there we wanted to see if it was haunted so we stood at the bottom of the steps and asked a few outloud questions like, "is there anyone there, please give us a sign". We waited a few minutes and repeated the question and finally we got an answer. A little girls voice said to us in a whisper, "Im here, I'm here". She said this twice. The voice sounded muffled and far away but we were able to hear it clearly enough to understand it. After that we went down a hallway to see the legendary mourge, it was really creepy. Before
We left the hospital we checked all the floors and no one else was anywhere to be found. We were alone when we heard the little girls voice.
whoever's gotten hopelessly lost in the hospital, say aye
I’ve lived just off Letchworth property almost 10 years now, and have been on the property numerous times though only in reoccupied buildings. Since I am in my thirties now and married with children, my days of venturing off into abandoned mental institutions are over (and I did do this as a teenager, though not here). I have been aware of the reputation this place has for being haunted for a few years now, and must agree the buildings do seem creepy, especially at night. My son attended school at both the middle and secondary schools on site, and I just recently noticed the power plant that looms eerily down the road from the school’s parking lot. It indeed looks spooky even in broad daylight. I must admit, the adventurous teenager inside me yearns to explore the insides of these buildings. I am happy to have found this site, so those of you want to risk arrest among other things can do it for me.
right by the gate at the beginning of the road to this power plant, theres a door in the ground to all the underground tunnels that connect all the buildings in the Letchworth. I just found it today and i feel like a pimp :D
ohh and i went in the power plant today and its not scary except for the face that when your on like the 3rd floor, the stairs start to creek and you feel like your gonna fall
To those who are unaware:
Letchworth Institution was built in accordance to a plan to help families with disabled children and adults. The institution took in the disabled people and for many years it worked great, but soon it worked too well and the places got over crowded to the point where it was unsafe closing buildings and shutting down the institution completely was the last resort. Letchworth did not Kill patients if there was no room, as for experiments.. yes, they were done but not in 'Dr.Evil' sort of ways. electrolysis and stuff like that were very popular in curing mental illness. As for the 'Underground tunnels' they do exist. Much like Disney World the tunnels provide a way for workers to get around indoors, they connected many of the buildings so the workers would not have to walk outside into the cold winter New York temperatures. As for the children who 'hang out' in these types of places are acctyuly destrying to property. These buildings are not old abstos filled which is bad for the children who are truspassing in these buildings but they are landmarks that will remain until some ungreatful money-seeker buys the property to make a condo-complex.. or 'children' keep buringing them down.. because of the stupid ideas of what is 'fun'.. police should keep better watch over these buildings so people stop destryoing them. Sorry for my bad spelling.. and inproper grammer.. I'm rusing to finish this because .. just because. thanks for taking your time to read this.. I very much so appericiate it.
i went here last year i tell you this its a odd place as for the facts of it being huanted you so feel as if being watched from ppl in bilding sounds of doors closeing hard at night im a unfounded ghost hunter and ive bin to many places on this cost this being close to home got me not thinking stay away you so go here and with time whant more how ever this is a place with many bildings each has its own ways so to say all r off limits to public but if you r repectful to the ppl who guard it you be goodwell also met workers from the place wen it ran kitchin staff and suchdo to laws and human right i cant give out names but this man told me and my cammra guy that he and his wife worked there about 25 years ago and his wife bing in to all this sed shes seen spirts and mists as well as vioces and loud sounds wen asked in light trams y did u leve letchworth i was told it hade a dark feeling about it at night as if the bildings come to life ///so i went there to see for my self and in pics we have orbs but that can be dust and other stuff bugs soo on but we was walking around more and more and we came to the back of this power plant here and worked throw it seems as we did in the daylight hours still with us doors would slam shut hard and u here what we only can say was a desk being draged on the top floor some were of the factory
