This reminds me of the theater seating in Byberry's operating room. I like the fact there's no graffitti.
Serves 'em right to have uncomfortable seats while watching some poor woman giving birth. Their seating arrangements should be half as unpleasant as hers. ;-)
They really did do things differently back then didn't they...
It would've been neat if they installed a bar.
All the more easy to slip off of when fainting at the site of blood!
What? Had some past expiriences at falling off stools at the sight of blood there Tony? ;-)
Do you not think that it may have been for observation for interim doctors? I can't imagine having a baby with that many "strangers" watching me!!
Awesome the WHOLE family can see you pop out a kid!
That must've left peoples asses feeling sore!
"It would've been neat if they installed a bar."

I was thinking the same thing. I also had a vision of someone with one of those old timey trays that hang from the wearer's neck selling popcorn and cracker jack.
My butt wouldn't fit on those.
Those have to be some of the most uncomfortable seats I've ever seen. (and to sit in them for quite a period of time...babies don't tend to "pop" right out)
And whom exactly were these seats made for...4' tall space aliens?? I agree with Janice...my butt wouldn't fit on one, either!!
Reminds me of the ice-skating rink they had on the cruise I went on last year. Except the ice rink seats had little tables in from of the stools...& were much cleaner ;-)
The "cheap seats".

Must have been for students or the like. It seems like over the history of time that designers have gone out of their way to make students uncomfortable.
I'm with Lynne. If they're going to watch a woman give birth -- something which is generally considered a private thing, between the woman and her husband -- they deserve to have crappy, uncomfortable seats. It's only fair.
I know that having had 4 little ones, if they were going to allow strangers to watch I would certianly want them to have at least a little of the discomfort I was feeling.
Wow ive never seen anything like this. i mean it was like a performance.
TRES ne confortables pas!
The seats remind me of pizza! xp
To bad it hurts to eat knowing that theres metal on my mouth. ow ow fuckity ow.
They should have charged an admission fee and put all the proceeds into a college fund for the baby they are watching being born.
Ouch! What was this a Nazi hospital?
