thats so sweet
The first television set bought by a doctor on the staff at Pilgrim was bought in 1947, I think, by a doctor who lived in a single family residence (actually bldg#61) on the PSH map. After we got home from school, most of us (preteen) children of the staff would ride our bikes over to this house and leave them in a heap on the front lawn. Then we'd all sit on the floor in front of the 16" black and white TV screenin the living room. We'd watch Howdy Doody for a while and sometimes stay for a bit of the western movie on Six Gun Playhouse before we had to go home for dinner.
Neal it's people like you that make me want to live in 'The Age Of Reason' more then anything.
wow, so you lived on these grounds...
what is this area considered..i get confused with Brentwood, Deerk Park, Edgewood even idk..
Yeah it's a confusing bunch of towns. I live in Deer Park now, I've visited Pilgrim numerous amounts of times, it's like a dream. Everything's so sick and dream like, it's deffinitly a place that should be kept and not taken down for the Outlets.
i dont know if its going to be taken down by the outlets...they've been saying it for a while already probably 3 years already with that plan..nothings happen...i pass through pilgrim state almost ..all the tiime..the buildings are beautiful....especially one in the back..by the factories..reminds me of...a castle...myserious...i cant get enough of it..
We are not going to be taken down for any outlets. The outlets are supposedly going up in Deer Park which is south of Pilgrim.
IT's really interesting to hear from people who have lived there and seen it in it's living day. keep writing please.
Hi everyone! How can I get to view these incredible Pilgrim State buildings in person?? How do I get to them from Commack Road? Thanks!
Hi...I work in one of the buildings (not the Hospital, a company who bought a building to use) It is creepy sometimes driving through the campus but it is pretty cool...I haven't gotten the guts to walk all over to look at all the buildings though

what mental helath help can we get there
This is wonderful.
I had an aunt who lived as a patient at Pilgrim. Every other Sunday after
church, my parents would make the drive out to PSH so my mother could visit her aunt Nancy. She was on the 5th floor of a building and my father
would drop my mother off because children were not permitted as
visitors. Occasionally, Aunt Nancy would wave to us but that's as close as my sister and I ever got to her.We were never told why she was there
but we were told that her sister had her "comitted" for some reason.
Aunt Nancy died there in 1965 and is buried somewhere on the grounds.
beautiful with a hint of lime
It's a shame that these beautiful building are left to decay, vandals, and destruction. I suppose people who lived on campus have as many wonderful memories as patients committed there had horrible memories. Some ghastly things were done there, like lobotomies and electroshock therapy.

All-in-all, it's a really cool place rich in history and mystery. I wish I went there when I was growing up on Long Island (Smithtown - only 10 miles away, and clsoe to Kings Park, which I drove through on a regular basis).
