The intricate brickwork of the facade can be seen here, and some hints of color remain, stained into the metal pediment. The turn of the century industrial design was bold and beautiful at the same time.

The windows in the end of the clestory (or whatever) seem to have been forced out from the inside. I wonder what caused that?

that is usually composed from wood and plaster,you are right paul p, today an element like this would be considered decorative, therefore unneccessary.

Seems to me that people cared about what they built. They wanted function, but they also wanted it to be pleasing to the eye.

Now days its ..."how cheap can we build it"
