It really saddens me that childish behavior results in us being unable to visualize the original beauty of the building.
yeah they messed up a peice of great history
How is this any different than the molds or decay that have overtaken these ruins? To me it all just blends together to create an interesting texture. Seems to me that graffiti is just another organic development in abandoned structures.
The graffiti almost humanizes what otherwise would be a raw and inhuman scene.
yeah, i kind of agree with brady, but it also ruins its frightening features.
Still, you can't help but think of the hundreds of autopsies that were watched from these very bleachers by students and surgeons during Byberry's history. When I sit here with friends tokin' up, I envision the body on the table that used to stand just scant yards away...
*shudder*
this morge apears to be the exact same design as the one at met state, i enjoy the parallel
"Byberry is in fact haunted and closed off to the public but if the anxioty burns within you, by al means test your inner haunt".
I admit that grafitti is just a waste of time, but in this case it adds to a feeling of hopelessness. The building's been sitting here rotting away for years and years, and you can see the years and years of grafitti that's been added. It's like a timeline of wasted youth.
I wonder who is the crazy person stenciling "Alcohol Ruins Lives" all over Byberry.
While I have seen the ruination first hand and agree it can (not always does but can) why would they go to Byberry and stencil that everywhere?
Brady, mold and decay are not thinking, sentient beings. People have brains and should know better. THAT is the difference.
Twug, that's your opinion and you're certainly entitled to it. My opinion is that it's a natural process much like mold and decay. Clearly we don't agree. Such is life.
Buck is a cool kid
Buck is a cool "kid"?
He's 28 and looks like Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top.
I call everyone a kid
Hey Ed, was there recently a fire in W-7? It's hard to get a good look while fighting rush hour traffic on the Boulevard, but i drove past this morning & there appeared to be fresh smoke damage around one of the 3rd story windows, plus some newer-looking sheet metal over several of the ground floor windows.
this spot is right next to the mourge
everyone thinks to bring a camera, bring a tape recorder and youll be amazed at what you record!!!!
Anatomy theatre, great...nothing funnier than laughing at the parts of the human body.
The coolest thing left in this room is the drain in the center of the floor.
Over the last sixty or so years of it's existence, how many GALLONS of blood has washed down through this little portal?
Radical Ed, that is an interesting thought all though twisted, interesting in the least :-)
Why don't we all show up with paint , rollers, and brooms and clean up the morgue. It wouldn't stay that way for long, but it would be cool to see one room in old berry looking decent again.
did they really do labadamies here ?
dont look like a movie theathre now
They knew when the city left it like that it wasn't going to stay looking nice, people are just set to destroy as soon as an place is emptyed. thats life and act like you live on earth not mars!!!!!!
(some of this spelling is giving me a headache) Anyway, all the spray paint makes it hard to tell what this place even is.
Often times, it seems that the mold and decay isn't nearly as damaging as human depredations. Even if floors and walls are slowly falling apart, it still tends to be a fairly slow process and, as it at least a natural form of destruction, it creates an aesthetic that willfull, wanton vandalism lacks. Not to mention that the vandalism tends to result in us simply loosing the equipment and fixtures that would bring this place to life better.
Amazing. People are really that bored that you are in dyer need to go into a building and completely distroy it. Sad. You don't remember your own name that well? Hey I know ! let's go to byberry and write it repeatedly on walls ! ..Losers
I've seen Graffiti in bizzare, remote locations. I dont see the logic, but then again.....I think the entire act stems from the lack of. It's ignorance. It shows a lack of respect for our history, and each other. Nobody cares about the people that came before them. Most kids these days see no further than themselves.

Scenes like this are a testament to that.

A shame.......
I saw many autopsies in this room, when I was a student. We would assist the medical examiner as well, atleast when he asked for it.
I don't think patient abuse was a great piece of history. The hospital should have been demolished as soon as it was abandoned, to prevent morons from entering and exposing themselves to hazardous materials.
They tried, but the cost of abatement (13-16 million) stopped that from happening.
This wall is severly lacking my tag.
No, it's severely lacking a good coat of KILZ over all of the "tags". Destruction for the sake of what?
what a crap shack.
Speaking of graffitti in remote locations, I've noticed that where I live there is a pattern of graffitti being made in as hard to get places as possible. Like for instance, in an abandoned building from the old asylum in the town next to mine there isn't that much graffitti inside the actual building apart from one cell that is locked and also full of tags which you can see through a small window in the door. All other cells are unlocked and open (did I mention that this was the maximum security building as well?). Another place would be under one of these huge roadbridges that crosses the big river that runs through the city. They climb out a long way on the supporting I-beams underneath and do graffitti. And while standing on those I-beams you got about 10 inches from the center and out of the beam to stand on and from there it'd be about 15-20 yards of free fall down into the icecold and streamy water below.
i live by byberry. well where it used to be. and it has fasinated me for the longest time. i never got a chance to vist but i always wanted to. due to behavior such as this, although i do love graffiti and art, limited people were able to vist. this is a piece of history that has been destroyed due to childish acts. the hospital, if left alone, would still be standing toda and maybe, something more could have been do ne with it rather than an old folks retairment home.
all the graffiti is just appalling. Its disgusting. People have no respect for anything other than their own selfish desires. Its sad. We're a society of 10 year old children. little more than monkeys with car keys.
i couldnt imagine being in a facility like that and what i hear about norristown and all too its scary but so true
it would be so cool to get an EVP from Byberry.. and the graffit no offense but what do you expect from some people from the philly area.. they have no respect for history.. and so many gangs and all down there.. so sad
shame it had to be demolished..
Brady is right the graffiti does not destroy or degrade the history behind the building. It adds to the abandoned effects and makes it that much more interesting. Its only a shame when stupid kids go into the building and actually break stuff
